We got married at Boettcher Mansion last summer and it was perfect. 90% of our wedding was out of towners looking for a chance to escape the heat so we were trying to find something mountainous without the drive. I loved how unique the venue was, easy to access from the highway for out of town folk, and tucked away it felt once you were inside. We got some gorgeous mountain photos! Shea was so lovely and answered any questions we had. Our guests absolutely raved and I am still getting compliments on how unique it was. I think the important thing to know with the Mansion - it is not a typical style venue and is not a good fit for certain groups. For context, we had a 120 person afternoon wedding in July (2-7pm). I did a tremendous amount of research and painstakingly picked each vendor, who all ended up working together and are incredible. If you are a bride looking for a more inclusive-everything-included style venue, this is not it. IF you are willing to do work on researching vendors, you can make the Mansion work for you at your price point and are rewarded in something more custom. It can really rack up cost wise if you use all the recommended vendors and do all the add-ons. We rented the entire space (highly recommend) so our wedding moved throughout the venue and guests got different experiences. I loved the outside ceremony and they have nice white chairs that look great in photos. Cocktail hour was outside in the gardens - so pretty still in July! The reception was inside. I loved the stone walls, very little decor is needed which is awesome. If you have over 80ish people and want a dance floor, we did have to flip some tables to make room, but our catering team did it so fast and we did the first dance outside - then conga lined the party back inside. Honestly I think more people started dancing since they already were up and moving, so it worked better than I hoped. I would pick this 10 out of 10, but like I said, I think it's good to know this is not the spot for a bride without a planner or who is willing to do her homework. Because it is a historical site, if you have a lot of custom built out decor or a large wedding or want to get ready at the venue, this is not for you. If you have under 120, want something special, and are organized (or have a good friend who is) you have found the perfect spot. Photography credit: Melina Massengill (melinamassephoto) read more
Where do I start? We chose Boettcher Mansion as the venue for my son's wedding on May 4th, 2024. What an incredible result. We had family and friends converge from all over the world to experience the best of Colorado. The weather behaved itself as well as can be expected in early May and the venue and its recommended vendors were the best that they could be! Boettcher Mansion is in a beautiful setting, allowing for an outdoor wedding with the woods as a backdrop, and cocktail hour and pictures with the sunset emerging behind the mountains. While we had just a sprinkle or two, the clouds made for a perfect vista, and if a downpour had occurred, the wedding could be quickly moved inside. We visited many potential wedding venues across the front range, including some beautiful options in Estes Park. We visited Boettcher Mansion first, and it inevitably remained our top choice as it offered several perquisites while also checking off the Bride and Groom's event venue expectations for the wedding. Ultimately, Boettcher Mansion's facility with its iconic outdoor colorado beauty, ample preparation accommodations for both the bride and groom and attendants, beautiful outdoor patio and reception space, and the ability to fully customize the event won us over. This venue provided a remote location with proximity to the Denver for out-of-town/country visitors to stay, and ease of access for all involved. As an added bonus, their fee supports Jefferson County Parks. The ability to customize every aspect of the day at first seemed daunting, but ended up being important to the special day. Boettcher Mansion hosts an annual wedding show where you can talk to all their recommended vendors. If you veer from these vendors and go your own way, you can do so for an extra fee. But by sticking with the recommended options for the major items, you will find they are very familiar with Boettcher policies, allowing you to have an efficient event on the day and secure the return of 100% of your $500 damage deposit! We chose Roots for our catering, which deserves its own special review, but for now I will say that the food and service were spectacular. The food was prepared, plated, and presented beautifully, with delicious options for everyone. The caterer also handled the sparkling toast and cocktail and wine service with their trained and certified servers, but the offerings were provided by us. We could have hired Applejack (or whomever) to deliver what we wanted, which is a huge cost savings over other venues who require the customer to use in-house service, and permits customization to personal tastes. In this case, Applejack will accept returns for any unopened bottle at the end of the night. In our case, however, the Bride and Groom selected the unique dinner wines and champagne toast from their parents' cellared wine libraries, adding a nice touch to the experience of their special day and helping to control costs even further. The Grand Piano in Boettcher Mansion's reception hall offered a special moment, when, at the Bride's request, the brother-of-the-groom played Debussy's Claire de Lune as the processional. Boettcher Mansion offers a D.J. You can provide your own music, but we found the D.J to be helpful in announcing what was to happen next, etc. He also offered a Photo Booth, which provided the Bride and Groom with a thumb drive of all their guest's funny pictures throughout the evening. Other exceptional vendors for whom I should write a separate review include Jessica Shipman, the "Day of" planner. Can't have a wedding without her! She, incredibly, planned and coordinated everything throughout the entire day, allowing all the guests and family to enjoy the event and focus on the Bride and Groom without having to be worried about actually doing any decorating or coordinating leading up to, and on the day. TeeLee Florist put together a one-of-a-kind Tower of Flowers for the alter, while we secured a beautiful and cost-effective flower package from Costco for the bulk of the floral decorations and the bouquet/corsages. We hired a shuttle service to offer for people to go up and down Lookout Mountain, for those who found the drive daunting, or out-of-towners without a car. Berg Berg Photography captured special moments throughout the event, including the sunset, and even provided special lighting for effect. Special candles handcrafted by the mother-and father-of the bride, and table number placards artfully drawn by the sister-in-law of the bride represent additional custom touches permitted by Boettcher Mansion that made the day incredibly special. In the end, our happy couple was forever touched by the gifts family and friends provided in memories we carry away from the wedding, indelibly amplified by the ambiance, staff, vendors, and personalization afforded by this incredible gem in Golden, Colorado. read more
Boettcher Mansion was built 104 year ago and is being used to host local events. You have to book a tour in order to see the property. I was a tag-a-long while a friend considered the venue for a wedding. We looked at the Carriage House and the Fireside Room. Both options were gorgeous. I loved the property and am excited to return for the big event. read more

We hosted our wedding at Boettcher Mansion with ~107 guests on July 2021. Overall thoughts: Beautiful venue, but will nickel and dime you. We had a great time hosting our wedding through Boettcher Mansion, but left with a slight bad taste in our mouths after all was said and done. Giving a 4 star instead of a 3 because our guests loved it. I will post photos as soon as I get them! Pros: -Megan and Shea were extremely responsive throughout the whole process. This is relieving given how stressful weddings can be. -Stunning venue for a smaller wedding. Boettcher Mansion really encompasses the Colorado feel. Our guests raved about the views and we were able to get some amazing photos out of it. -They have a storage unit on site so you can store your decorations, rentals, etc. It was really helpful! -Their recommended vendors are amazing! For catering we went with Relish and the food was to die for. Cons: -You will be charged for every little thing. Here's a quick breakdown: --$500 to set up bistro lights outside --$500 to set up bistro lights inside (This fee is optional. If we could go back, we would have only paid for bistro lights outside. Also, you will be charged these prices even if the lights were already set up the night before for another wedding.) --Extending your party time by an hour: $500 --The initial cost doesn't include ALL of the venue, which means another small wedding can be there. To rent out the other small buildings at Boettcher Mansion they charge $400. -- $100 rehearsal for 1 hour at venue. Rehearsal is necessary at the venue due to the layout and to make sure the party knows what to do. --Our catering left 17 minutes late and we were charged $125. (We will also be reaching out to catering to see what happened, but believe this cost is outrageous.) Continuation of cons: -Ubers are very scarce in this area. This is, of course, is not the venue's fault, but you will need guests to either drive or plan for transportation. We heard a horror story of guests getting stuck there at a wedding the night before. ~$1,000-$3,000 for shuttles -The lady managing the venue the night of the wedding was anxious and added unneeded stress throughout the night. Maybe arrange a time to meet with the manager of the night to set good expectations and so you know what/who you'll be working with. -If you want a wedding coordinator you will need to hire a third party since it is not provided by the venue. -If you hold your ceremony and reception here, there is not nearly enough time to squeeze everything in. For the package we bought, the earliest vendors could set up was 5pm. We paid for the extra hour ($500) and still felt rushed. We had 107 guests and it was a pretty tight fit! I'd recommend hosting about 80 people here tops. read more

It's Valentine's Day - so of I'm thinking of all the romantic places I've been to and I suddenly wondered why I haven't ever written a review about Boettcher Mansion! My husband and I were married at Boettcher Mansion in September 2007 and it was a wonderful venue. Not too far from Denver, but not so far in the mountains that out of town guests had to drive too far or deal with too much altitude sickness. The event planners at Boettcher were incredibly accommodating and there are storage lockers on site where you can bring items for your wedding (think center pieces, etc.) the day before your big event. There are separate rooms for you and your husband to get ready for the wedding, and the amazing vistas for beautiful photos never end. There is copious parking and the venue is very private. We did hire a bus to bring guests to/from Boettcher from the Table Mountain Inn in Golden so that they didn't have to worry about the twisty-turny roads after having a few drinks. Out of towners particularly appreciated this as "mountain" driving can be a little daunting. Every one of our guests had a wonderful time at Boettcher and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something a little out of the ordinary. Enjoy! read more
Of all the wedding venues I went to look at, working with Boettcher was easily the best experience I had booking a tour appointment and consulting with someone during the tour. Their customer service was so good, I was really taken aback! Two of my close friends and I are all engaged and all looking for venues and you'd be surprised the number of places with so-so customer service who require multiple phone calls and follow-up just to speak with someone. Boettcher exceeded in all these areas. I wish I had written down all three of the ladies' names I talked to. So for booking, you call their phone number and only certain Saturdays are available for venue tours. The lady I spoke with was very warm and it made all the difference when anticipating a new venue. At the actual tour, a nice lady showed us around the garden area, the main mansion and carriage house, etc. and was so patient answering all of our questions. The house itself on the outside is beautiful and juts the mountains in a very charming way. The outdoor terrace for ceremonies is gorgeous! But inside it was what you might expect, a bit old and dusty, with dated fixtures. You can tell they've done some updating but it's still a bit "rustic" such as ceiling paint which bled onto the wooden hallway walls... Cell reception is almost non-existent up there with all six of us touring (did I mention three brides?) having no service whatsoever. They have free wifi but it is inconsistent so if you're meeting people or thinking of guests, best to prepare in advance. The day of, an employee will be there to be sure you're following rules and we were told they can lightly assist but mostly, you must have your own decorator and planner if you need one. They will however let you drop off décor and things a day or two in advance and I think this would be really helpful if you have someone coming early to decorate for and without you. A few days after our tour another sweet lady gave me a call and asked what I thought of the venue. When I politely explained I would be going with a different venue she sounded genuinely excited for me that I finally found a venue (HALLELUJAH)! I thanked her and she thanked me and it was all very pleasant. No other place has followed up with me yet, regarding their venue and with all the pleasant ladies, I think they'd try hard to take care of you and your special day. I honestly think if you're okay with a little bit dated furniture and décor inside, the pros outweigh the cons. If you are planning an outdoor ceremony and want that rustic feel to your wedding with hanging lights and gorgeous forest views, this would be a great place to consider. read more

This venue is so beautiful! I got married here in August and it was perfect. The staff are so sweet and really go out of their way to make you happy. Laurie went above and beyond for us. She answered countless amounts of emails from me on a weekly basis and never sounded annoyed when I was being a bridezilla! She recommended different vendors for us to look into when we got stuck. I am so thankful for all that she did to help us. The actual wedding went perfectly thanks to the excellent staff. Thank you Laurie!! read more
Since getting engaged I just wasn't all that excited about wedding planning. It just seemed like such a hassle...until my site visit at Boettcher Mansion. I was blown away by the gorgeous views, rustic interior and the staff. They are absolutely fabulous! Laurie, the Event Manager, has promptly returned all my calls and emails. Lauren, who showed us around on our site visit, was incredibly friendly and helpful. Everyone seems genuinely concerned with making your day run smoothly and offering tips to make your life easier. As soon as I can confirm that caterer I'm booking a date next September. As far as service, value and location this place far exceeded any other venues I considered in the Golden/Morrison/Evergreen area. read more

Great venue horrible staff. Jill is the worst. She is condescending, rude, passive aggressive, and a down right horrible person. She made our event bad and our guests kept on commenting on her unacceptable behavior. Never have we been treated so poorly. read more

We had a spectacular wedding at the Mansion. Everything was just perfect from the initial planning to the event itself. The staff was so accommodating and helpful. I would highly recommend this venue for any event but especially for the storybook mountain wedding, just amazing! I would also use their recommendations for vendors- especially Adrienne Gardner, The Gardner Effect for wedding coordination and Ken Hiatt as DJ! read more

My husband and I were married here on February 29th, 2016 and it was the perfect venue for us! We fell in love with Boettcher at our 1st visit. We had our ceremony inside and it was the perfect rustic/Colorado venue we were hoping for! The location is awesome in that it is close to Denver but still feels mountainous! While planning if I ever had a question I would email Megan and she always got back to me super quick and could always answer my questions. She was also super helpful in our final meeting before the wedding in helping get our timeline in order! Overall, A+ and pretty affordable for those wanting a mountain wedding on a smaller budget! read more

Got married on July 18th and it was perfect! I was really stressing out about the little things such as guestbooks, favors and the like but the staff at Boettcher along with the caterers and my groom got everything taken care of so I didn't have to worry. Jane was there the night of my wedding and couldn't have been more polite and helpful. Megan and Laurie helped me plan everything and they were great as well. A real plus is that they also were quick to return my deposit after the wedding. The only slight mar was the sound system/ DJ equipment. We decided to have our friend and groomsman DJ and thought were were in the clear cost wise, but in order to have quality sound your best bet is to go with the sound system they have there and that was an additional $350. In the end it was totally worth it and Ken gave our DJ a great tutorial, but it was one of those unforeseen expenses that kind of bit me in the end. Overall a great place. I couldn't have imagined a more perfect way to have my wedding! read more

We got married there in September, 2013. It was a great size for our small guest count ~32. The venue is beautiful and the location can't be beat. I wanted something out of town, but I didn't want to drive all the way to Breck or Vail. Everything was just fine leading upto the wedding. It is not the cheapest option for sure, but venue was on place we splurged. The women who was there as the day of coordinator, though, was very abrasive and starting cleaning up our tables and chairs 15 minutes early. I was very dissapointed! I had the venue reserved from 9:30am util 4:00pm totaly and there was another event starting at 5:00. They were going to start cleaning up at 3, which was just fine, but she started picking up chairs and essentially kicking people out at 2:45. For how expensive that place is I was not happy, but of course nothing was done about it afterwards. I would still choose to get married here because the good outweighed the bad, but I'd be more vigilent about getting my money's worth! read more

Boettcher Mansion is in a lovely location - but we had nothing but poor service from Laurie, the Event Planner on site. We loved, and wanted to deal with Megan - but Laurie was our person that was assigned to us. She is a bitter person, that should not be part of a brides day, at all. The entire planning process was an unhappy experience. We were nickel and dimed, and then were billed from our rental company - because Laurie added items to our rental order that we never approved. Run, don't walk, from Laurie at Boettcher Mansion. read more

Though this may look beautiful on the outside - beware of the inside...the people and the space. The main room is smaller than you think, and even though it's a "mansion" the other rooms are hardly useable for guests - just used for the bridal suite. Staff is unwilling to work with you if you have an issue come up with your contract - even if it's an unforeseen family issue and you tell them immediately (just 2 weeks after signing). Deposit non-refundable NO MATTER WHAT. There are plenty of other places in CO, don't let the "wonder" of this "mansion" fool you. read more
In terms of the mansion itself, it is very small, quaint, and simple and would be great for a low maintenance wedding. We visited after hiking in lookout mountain and thought it was cute. The service lady was very helpful read more

I attended my brother's wedding here this past weekend. 95% of the guests were from out of town & being shuttled here to enjoy a fantastic evening. The setting is nice, however I would suggest that if you're going to rent this place you should have a small attendance number. Any transitioning takes place outside so if it's cold you have to run for cover! If your party is a big one good luck squeezing inside. You will be given looks by rude staff because you're in their way!!! Also ask about their "rules"!! When attending a wedding generally men would like to be romantic & get their lady a drink, this is not allowed! Then they can cut you off whenever they want! We had several people get cut off after 2 drinks! The wedding was scheduled until midnight but we ended at 10:30 because of the rude behavior! Also bridal party they will tell you when you can have a drink as well! I was sadly disappointed in this venue & would recommend if you want to have a fun, good, relaxing time... I'd keep looking! read more

We hosted a Celebration of Life at Boettcher Mansion this weekend. We had about 150 guests attend. It was so beautiful..the photos on line of Boettcher Mansion just don't do it justice! You have to see it to believe it. I loved the fact that we were able to use the entire house and deck. Our guests not only enjoyed the natural beauty of the location but also loved stolling through all the rooms. I worked with Megan the events planner. She was terrific. Megan helped to make the planning seem simple and made certain that the each room was set up exactly how we had planned. To keep our costs down, we used Cooks Fresh Market instead of an onsite caterer and then had Robin Navant and her staff from At Your Service handle all the food display, bar tending and serving needs. They are true pros who are very familiar with Boettcher Mansion. They took care of everything and made it a stress free event! We used Ken the DJ that has a fab sound system throughout the house and he was perfect for the occasion. Kept things rolling and added to the fun! I can't think of anything negative to say about Boettcher....it was actually much more affordable than the other locations we checked and turned out to be extra special. Thanks Boettcher!!! read more

When I started planning my wedding I knew I wanted to get married in the mountains. However, most of my family had to travel in from out of town so I didn't want to hold the the wedding too far from Denver. The Boettcher Mansion was perfect!!!!!!!!!!! We got married there on Oct 6th. Laurie was really great answering all of my and my Mom's questions through out the whole process. When the the weather turned out to be less than favorable (we had snow! and it was COLD!) everyone at the mansion worked hard to make sure that moving to our plan "B" went smoothly. We rented the entire property (the Mansion, Carriage House, and the Gazebo) so we were able to move the Ceremony into the fireside room and then send everyone down to the Carriage House for cocktail hour (while the caterers re-set the fireside room for dinner). While it does cost a bit more to rent out all of the areas, I would recommend it so that you have plenty of options. Also, if you are getting married here I would HIGHLY recommend going to one of the bridal shows! My matron-of-honor and I had so much fun and being able to meet with so many vendors that are familiar with the Mansion at one time was great. read more

The Boettcher Mansion is the quintessential example of adaptive reuse. Carefully preserved and maintained by Jefferson County, the former summer home gained a two-story lobby addition in 1986 and was refurbished in 2005-07 with a gourmet kitchen, landscaped grounds and many other enhancements. In addition to the former residence, there is a carriage house and gazebo available for weddings, receptions, meetings and other functions. While the estate has retained its vintage ambience, it offers state-of-the-art amenities. The Mansion's staff delights in making customer service its top priority.
History
Established in 1975.
The Boettcher Mansion is a 1917 Arts & Crafts estate nestled in 135 forested acres encompassing the Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve above Golden. Built of stone and timber culled from the site, "Lorraine Lodge" served as Charles Boettcher's beloved family retreat until his grandaughter bequeathed the property to Jefferson County in 1968. Opening as a Conference and Nature Center in 1975 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the facility has since been renamed to reflect its modern-day usage as a special events venue.
Meet the Business Owner: Charles B.
If it weren't for Charles Boettcher (1852 - 1948), this place wouldn't exist. Even though Charles is long gone, as one of Colorado's earliest entrepreneurs (specializing in the hardware, portland cement and sugar trades), we think he'd be proud that his mountaintop getaway is still standing strong and even turning a profit as a special events site. And we'd also like to thank his granddaughter, Charline Breeden, for having the foresight to donate this pristine property to Jefferson County, for perpetual public use and enjoyment.
