We were so pleased to find this place next to the waterfront across the river from our barge, just a short walk away. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very warm and cozy, to begin with. The young guys running the restaurant were charming and welcoming. They speak English, and have a very engaging way about them. Now the food: in a word, fantastic. My wife and I had the local fish, salmet, with black rice and perfectly cooked vegetables. Delicious. Others in our group had the Spargel with various meat selections, and they were also very pleased. The white asparagus, spargel, is in season now. The selection of desserts was off the charts delicious - we had the dessertvariation, which included a bit of all they offer for our group to share. I had more than my share (sorry guys...). They also have a good selection of wines and beer. The beer was excellent I am told, and the wines they suggested (a Grunber and a more full bodied red) both really fit the bill and were quite good. We all thought the cost of the meal was quite reasonable. Finishing with Plum Schnapps was a perfect cap to the evening. Just in time for a stroll through the fair by the river. So, if you happen to be in Linz, particualrly if your option is another large non-descript cruise passenger meal and if you would like to hang out with some actual Austrians and have something like an authentic local experience, this is the place for you.

Cheese and potatoes with tart were better at Lokar in Prague. The beer- Eggenberg hefelager was awesome. Started with a small and then got a large!! Also the bread they served on the side is quite good. Nice service, cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend. Cash only.

The waitress was friendly enough, the ambience was old Czech cozy pub. This was the only eatery/vendor that only took cash, and of course, I had none on me! But she trusted me to go to the ATM/Bankomat and come and pay...cause I'm an honest guy of course! 336 CZK/$15.25 Grilled trout with herb butter and garlic, Potatoes, Lemon...it was simply roasted with salt and pepper, then brushed and herb butter and garlic. It was relatively basic and makes for a nice lighter meal. 79CZK/$3.60 Carrot & Horseradish salad...I was fascinated by this and had to try it, especially since it was so cheap! Fresh shredded carrot mixed with a bit of fresh shredded horseradish...delicious, and a great way to clear your nostrils! 62CZK/$2.80 Glass of White Wine...perfect with my fish dinner, and I love these Czech prices!!!

I have mixed feelings about the Postlingberg-Schlossl. To get to Postlingberg you need to take a narrow gauge tram from the Hauptplatz up to the little tiny village. It's more of a destination than a great restaurant. On a clear day you look out from the restaurant to across the Danube to Linz and the land beyond it. In winter there's a cozy dining room that is quintessentially old Austria. The food was good but very meat oriented so unless you got a vegetarian dish there were no vegetables to be had. It was tasty but nothing remarkable. If you want to eat here pick an absolutely clear day so you can see across the Danube

When entering, we were told we needed reservations but as we were ready to depart, the Maitre d'/host, Anton, said he would find us a table. The service was excellent and the dinning area is elegant. This is the 3rd high end restaurant we've dined at since being in Austria and we enjoyed the food here the most. My local trout with lentils had perfect texture and seasoning. My husband, who had the stuffed cabbage, said it's the best meal he has had since arriving in Austria over a week ago. We also had the pumpkin foam (I think it was a little frothy cream on top?) soup which was very good; the pumpkin was subtle. We gave it 5 stars for the service and that we like the food better than the Michelin rated restaurant we had eaten at earlier on our trip.
