This might be the only restaurant in Cesky Krumlov where locals actually come to eat and drink...I think I saw 4 tables, all speaking Czech with the waitress. The waitress was friendly enough, the ambience was old Czech cozy pub. This was the only eatery/vendor that only took cash, and of course, I had none on me! But she trusted me to go to the ATM/Bankomat and come and pay...cause I'm an honest guy of course! 336 CZK/$15.25 Grilled trout with herb butter and garlic, Potatoes, Lemon...it was simply roasted with salt and pepper, then brushed and herb butter and garlic. It was relatively basic and makes for a nice lighter meal. 79CZK/$3.60 Carrot & Horseradish salad...I was fascinated by this and had to try it, especially since it was so cheap! Three of us had dinner here tonight (6/3/24) and it was wonderful. The carp was delicious, the cauliflower was the same, and the sausage was very good! The blueberry dessert was great...not too sweet...served on and surrounding a bun similar to steamed bao. We'd come back here anytime! read more

Just a few turns off the main square so we were the only Americans when we sat down. A very good Czech meal. The setting is a 15th Century house that also houses a pension. The menu was surprisingly large and included many different meat and side dish combinations. There were also many beers. Three of us had the "Czech national meal"--roast pork, sauerkraut, red cabbage, potato salad, knodel (steamed bread) platter. The roast pork included 2 pieces of roasted pork belly and a slice of loin. Excellent flavor. We all loved the sauerkraut which had a nice sweetness and an herb--maybe caraway? The warm potato salad and red cabbage were also good. I was not in love with the steamed bread. DH had the smoked pork platter which came with 2 large "potato omelette" that were like latkes. His platter also had the sauerkraut. The potato omelette was delicious, but the smoked pork was like American ham. The meal was an excellent value. 4 main dishes, 1 large and 1 giant beer, a soda and 3 glasses of still water for 703 koruna. At a conversion rate of 21 CZK per dollar, it was about US $33.50 for a huge lunch for 4. Lunch is the main meal in the Czech Republic so I found the serving quite large. Not fancy, but it felt authentic since so many customers were speaking Czech. read more

This place is in the rick steve's as the most popular bistro in town. It does sit on very beautiful street and the inside is let's say a little tired so we sat outside. The service was efficient if not friendly and the food comes out before you blink. Overall the food was ok not great but the price is right, and you can't beat the view . This small restaurant can be overwhelmed by crowds but you'll be rewarded with good food. The night we came here was relatively off-season (early October) but many of the town's restaurants were very busy. Na Louzi was quite full but able to seat us immediately. The tables are shared. And the place was quite warm, but not too uncomfortable. We had one of the sirloin dishes and which was tough but flavorful. Fortunately, we were warned because we asked a neighboring diner about her dinner. I ordered the trout, because I had heard that the town used the river to build ponds to develop fresh water fishery and sure that enough, it was fresh and well prepared in butter and garlic. It came with roast potatoes that were perfectly cooked and well salted. Service was somewhat brusque but fast and efficient. read more

Last (for now) of the pre-Covid leftovers: There's no view of the Vltava from this place, but that's just fine. A hodge-podge of tables that makes you think they could never work you in, and suddenly ... there you are seated and made to feel welcome. A good mixture of locals and folks speaking Czech which adds to the atmosphere immeasurably. The food options were varied and everything we had was very good. The 500+ year old building could make you feel a little claustrophobic, but then there's all that pilsner to wash away the dark corners of this film-noirish place. Was that Sydney Greenstreet in the doorway blocking all outside light?!?! Can't say for sure, wasn't enough light. read more

Food is really good. It's just disappointing that they haven't figured out how to be gracious and nice (-1 star). The our door environment is old-world and appropriate for the the location. Don't confuse a reticent server with bad service. Our server always came by to see if we needed more beer (we must've drank slowly, compared to Czech standards). They serve awesome traditional Czech food and local Eggenberg beer in a real tavern atmosphere read more

The fried pork stuffed with ham and cheese is so good. The breadcrumbs crust just covers the pork. It's thin and crispy. Pork meat inside is tender. However, the sirloin steak is overcooked, probably because it's not a thick one. Potato side dish has no taste, glad that they provide pepper and salt. Casual, local pub atmosphere serving traditional Czech food. I had the sliced "dumplings" with blueberry sauce and whipped cream. What the locals call "dumplings" resemble large, thick, round slices of polenta. I also ordered a Czech Kola. Both had such a unique taste. One of the best parts of traveling abroad is finding new foods to miss when you return home. read more
