It was easy to talk to intake, but I found it disappointing that they charged for consultations while other firms that are reputable don't do this. I didn't continue with them, but they spammed me with phone calls for months after engaging with them. It was all too much and felt weirdly desperate after they try to Nickle and dime with at cost consultations. There is a saying, that you can catch more with honey rather than vinegar. After being charged $4,000 for a design patent & never receiving updates in regard to the status of the patent this company disengaged working with my company. On top of that, the drawings entered through came back ineffective from the patent examiners office & now I am having to redo the drawings. I have never ever placed a review on yelp or google. I just thought I'd warn some people. The founder is charismatic, but the company lacks basic SOP's & customer service skills. When I filed the patent, I used the only $4,000 I had to my name as an 18-year-old to launch my company. Thankfully, my company is in a good position otherwise it would've been a big loss. read more

I never share my negative experiences online although this is one that must be shared. We started our trademark process in August of 2016 and still have not received the trademark. Here are some of the details of our horror story with BOLD IP: When I called the 800 number to contact the lead attorney on my case (using the number he provided in his email signature) I was told there was no Andrew working there. In an email, I asked JD (the owner) about this twice and received no response. We were told on several occasions during this process that there was a small chance our trademark application would be turned down. We were not made any guarantees but we were given the idea that success was highly probable. After the application was denied, they suddenly expressed that the "vast majority of trademarks are not awarded". When questioned as to why they did not use a basic disclaimer, used in other trademarks of this type, we were told they were trying to "cast a large net". Failing to use a disclaimer that had been successfully used in previous trademarks of this type was a poor strategy/excuse. We feel there are only two possible reasons for leaving out a disclaimer that had been used by two separate companies, both successful in having their trademark accepted. 1. They are working on too many jobs at the same time and not spending the proper amount of time with each client. 2. They set the trademark up for a failure, in an attempt to charge us an extra $2,000. After the trademark application was denied, BOLD then decided to bring in an expert on geographical trademarks. During a conference call, the co called expert admitted that he knew little about our case or the other two companies that had been successful with similar trademarks. The lead attorney on our case had very little to say. It has been difficult to get JD to properly respond to emails, he often completely ignores legitimate questions. For example: Did you subcontract our trademark out without permission or notification; Do you have a physical location in NY as you claim on your website; and Do you have any employees that work in the state of NY? I received a reply over a month after I sent the email and only after threatening to dispute the charges with our credit card company. We believe BOLD IP withheld and manipulated information in an attempt to extract additional funds from us. I was stood up on several times after BOLD IP RSVP'd for meetings that they set up. The lead attorney went MIA on four separate occasions. At some point when you realize the attorney is not doing his job properly, he should have been removed from the trademark. Now we find ourselves in quite the predicament as we approach the 5/31/17 trademark deadline. We can either take legal action against BOLD IP, dispute the charges as they withheld, mislead crucial information and/or find a firm that can file this properly. We have given BOLD an opportunity to work with us to make this right, but they have refused. We are out $2,500.00, as well as trademark fees to the USPTO, but more importantly we lost the most precious resource, time. Thus, far, I have found BOLD IP and their independent contracted attorney to have poor customer service skills and to be very unprofessional. A disappointed customer. read more

I booked a consult online with the owner of Bold Patents. He cancelled five minutes before my 6.30 am call (my time zone) because he couldn't call outside the USA. This is ridiculous as his consult firm has country choice and takes outside country phone numbers. It should state this on the consult form when booking vs. me arranging to do this call. Not professional. Plus, I called his office so we could still do the call as I had 20 mins booked for consult. He did not answer the phone and it went to his voice mail. Waste of my time. I found another lawyer in California that is organized, along with being an expert in patents. read more
