It is designed to lock you into a specific lease term that benefits them. The 12 month was the most cost effective and that price was insane. Wish I still had a copy of the term rates so I could post and show everyone the highway robbery going on in the complex. I decided not to renew and moved out this month. Besides the rent increase, the walls are as thin as paper. You can hear everything going on in the apartments above and below you. I mean EVERYTHING! I had a couple below me who loved to fight and then make up nearly every single day. Because the walls and ceilings are so paper thin I could literally hear their conversations and their "pillow talk". Noise complaints are said to be handled, but then swept under the rug because the manager of the complex said it is next to impossible to remove tenants for noise disturbance. The cost to live here is not worth it. The pool is often closed because they don't have a steady lifeguard on staff. You often receive an email that morning saying the pool will be closed. This is not a covid thing because it was every summer I lived there. The amenities that they advertise are only available from 9-5 daily, so if you work you're out of luck. (With the exception of the gym). From the outside the buildings are beautiful, but the carpets in the hallways and elevators are stained and smell. I wish I would have made the move a year before. There are other complexes that offer just as much for a lot less a month.

With falls being the number one biggest problem for seniors, these features make the units into an accident waiting to happen! The refrigerators are set up into a corner of the kitchen making opening the door all the way to take the crisper drawers out for cleaning impossible! And let's not even get into the problems with the elevator and the water that never gets cold! So, while I would recommend these apartments for those seniors needing a great atmosphere & some very nice amenities, be aware of these problem areas.

We have been here just over 6 months now and have had such an easy and enjoyable time living here. First off I absolutely love all of the trees throughout the property and how tucked away it feels. During the long winter months where most of the area is brown and bleak it's always nice to come home to dusted white evergreens. They upkeep the whole area very nicely as well and It is very walkable compared to nearby apartments. Next, they have recently done renovations on the buildings. The first 6 buildings have been completely redone and I believe they are doing a few buildings each summer. The renovation process was not bad as well. We were living there at the time of our building being renovated and they were very communicative of when certain things were to be done. The office staff, and maintenance staff have all been incredibly responsive and helpful. Anytime we have put in a maintenance request, they would fix it the very next day. All of the staff is very laidback yet professional. They have been excellent at maintaining the grounds through the winter as well. They always Salt and plow in a timely manner. I have never had any problems leaving to get to my job in the morning. In the beginning of my lease the office staff was very easy to email or call with any questions I had regarding how to pay rent or bills. This apartment complex is very very animal friendly. It seems almost every single person has an animal! So you will see people walking their dogs at every hour of the day. I have also never noticed a problem with dog poop anywhere. You do have to pay a dog or cat fee each month, it is just added onto your monthly rent. The last thing I wanted to point out was that although we can hear our neighbors often, and I'm sure it's much nosier on the bottom floor, this is just one of those things that comes with apartment living. If you are concerned with noise level then request to be on the second story. As a second story resident the only time I find it "noisy" is someone talking right outside our front door. I can sometimes here music or TV but it is not loud or bothersome by any means. The new windows they have put in this past year have also damped the sounds of the John Glen highway and air conditioning units so much!! Hopefully this review was helpful for anyone who got through it all. My job will be relocating from 5 mins away to 30 mins away and I was going to move closer to my job. But considering how much we have liked living here. I will plan on renewing my lease instead.

We found management easy to communicate with, and prompt when dealing with requests, questions and maintenance concerns. The space was a good size for us, the property was reasonably well maintained, but there are only two reasons it doesn't get 5 stars: 1. The noise from the apartment above can be frustrating, even if you have courteous neighbors. The floors creak, and they must be thin because although it's muffled, you can still hear TVs, phone conversations, etc. MOST OF THE TIME this is really not a problem. It's very muffled so you can only really notice it if you have total silence in your place, but we noticed it more because it would occasionally wake up our infant son during the night. 2. While the apartments and the property are well-maintained, they can suffer from mold on the window panes, shower lining and bathroom walls. It's not out of control, but it's definitely there. If you don't mind wiping it up here and there, it won't be a problem at all. The value here is really great, especially when compared with city prices, and the property feels very safe and friendly to me. The pool is small, but never too busy. The fitness center is basic, but has what you need for a complete workout. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend moving to the area, just with the caveats mentioned above.

The staff may have discounts for you! Don't look over this place! This place is a 15minute walk to downtown and Clinton Square. It is very peaceful and close to downtown. Across the street is a Korean restaurant. A 1-bedroom (non-updated) is $930 a month. This is a great deal because the space is huge! A one bedroom here is almost 1,000 square feet and there is a ton of closet space (one hallway closet, one entrance closet, one walk-in closet in the bedroom and a non-walk-in closet in the bedroom AKA his/hers). The living room is huge and the master bedroom is more than enough space for a king sized bed with a couch. What you won't find out about this place online is that this place has amazing views of the city! If you face south, you will see views of the sunset and the Dome/city. If you face north, you'll see views of the sunrise and the lake. The higher the floor, the more amazing the views become. At night, you can see the city sparkle. On top of the great price, utilities are FREE. This includes cable TV, electricity (heat, AC), gas, and water. All the kitchens also have gas stoves. All the units have enclosed balconies (with some charming brick) that help keep the heat in but also make beautiful spots to lounge-in during the summer. One of the best parts about this place is that you can get guaranteed indoor heated garage parking. It's $55/car for self-park or a little more if you want valet-parking (where an attendant parks your car for you). This place has a lot of older folks so it's very peaceful. The walls are thick and made of steel so you do not hear your neighbors. Each floor has it's own laundry machine and floor tenants are assigned 3-hour slots twice a week (you get to pick which slot you want) so no one can hog the machine during your time. If you don't want to do that, there is also a laundry room in the basement open 24-7 for anyone. There is also a free gym downstairs, a hair salon (appointments only) and an Italian restaurant attached to the downstairs lobby area of this place. There is a 24/7 doorman and staff. Your packages are safe here when delivered and guests need to be seen by the doorman before they are allowed to enter the building (they give you a call and confirm if you want them let in). It makes it feel super safe. This place is quirky because each unit looks a little different. You can get carpet or parque wood flooring depending on your liking. Some units are updated (and will cost more) and have a different layout. Staff here are super friendly. They even have a grocery delivery bus that comes twice a week that takes you to the grocery store. They even have a car-washing service in the heated garage. The heated garage is attached to the basement so you never have to bare the harsh winter to go in and out of your unit and carry-in groceries. They even have roller grocery carts you can borrow to bring stuff from your car to your unit. Each floor also has a recycling room and trash chute so you don't have to go far to throw away trash. They also allow cats/dogs (additional fee). Each floor also has a mail chute so you can send envelops/mail without having to go downstairs to the mailbox. Repairmen are also super friendly and prompt about fixing things. The kitchen has a cool pegboard where you can hang stuff (Julia Child style!). They have a vending machine downstairs too so you can get midnight snacks/drinks. They also have a give-a-book-take-a-book shelf where people can peruse and take others' unwanted books.

I lived here for 5 years while I was a surgery resident at Upstate Medical University. When I was…read moresearching for an apartment, my top priorities were proximity to the hospital and affordability. Nettleton Commons was excellent on these two accounts. Its a 5 minute drive to the hospital, a ~15 minute bike ride, and a 30 minute walk. The building, like many Syracuse apartment complexes is a renovated shoe factory, and our apartment had that historic feel with high wooden ceilings, exposed brick, and open floor plans that make the space feel larger than it is. I absolutely loved the open kitchen and breakfast bar layout. My boyfriend and I lived in a corner 1 bedroom apartment on the 5th floor, and we had two walls lined with windows that provided abundant natural light. In addition to the proximity to the hospital, you are a short walk away from Clinton Square, where many festivals are held during the warmer months. Downtown is also a easy walk, and you are only a few blocks away from CreekWalk - which is a beautiful path that goes through Franklin Square and all the way to the Destiny Mall. Right next to the apartment complex is San Miguels (a great spot for tacos and margaritas), and Colu./mbus Bakery (the most delicious fresh bread you'll ever taste). Not only that, but there is a liquor and wine store (Vinomania) and a hair salon INSIDE THE BUILDING. As a surgery resident with no time, this is game changing. Now, I do want to point out a few things about the building and the surrounding neighborhood that you should be aware of if you plan to move here. Not to dissuade you, just to set your expectations. 1) The immediate surrounding neighborhood is low income, and there is a significant homeless population. The Nettleton building is adjacent to the Samaritan House, which is a 501c3 organization that provides meals to the hungry. It is an incredibly important organization and they provide an essential service to the community, so expect crowds around the building around mealtimes. In 5 years of walking and biking by the building I never had a problem, but it is something you should be aware of. 2) Avoid the Sunoco gas station across the street. It is a local hang out for vagrants and panhandlers. In my last year in Syracuse I noticed that they blast opera music, i'm assuming to prevent loitering. Only stop there if you absolutely have to, and expect to be approached by panhandlers offering to pump your gas for cash. 3) Always lock your car doors, and be wary of valuable packages that you have delivered to the building. I did have two instances where packages were stolen from inside the building. Literally the box was ripped open and the contents were stolen. Sylvia, the owner was made aware of this and was actively taking steps to improve the security of the building at the time I was leaving. 4) The buidling itself is old, so if you live on the 5th floor, don't be surprised if you find yourself sweeping/dusting particles falling from the ceiling, or experience some leaks after heavy rain. The owner Sylvia and the live-in supervisor are extremely responsive with any maintanence issues that we had while we were there. 5) The building is right next to 81N, one of the major highways that runs through Syracuse. This is super convenient for commuting and travelling, however it can be a problem if you live in a unit that faces the highway, and are senstive to noise. As a surgery resident, I was borderline comatose whenever I slept, so I didn't notice it as much as my boyfriend. Ambient noise apps and ear plugs can only do do much, so just make sure you are aware of where your unit is and whether its something that will be a problem for you. After having said all of that, it was a great place to live for me during my 5 years of surgery residency. I have a fondness for exposed brick and high ceilings, and I truly loved being in my apartment. Its affordable and in close proximity to downtown and the hospital, which was key for me.
