I will tell you to size down one size if you rent skates as they do run big. My one complaint is they don't resurface the ice as frequently as the ice rink I've visited in NY. The staff was very kind and shared excitement with me that my daughter's birthday was approaching in a few weeks. This can definitely become a regular family adventure despite it being about 20 miles from home. And it's affordable!

I had a very unfortunate experience with Rink Manager Peter Montesano, during which he was rude and…read moreunhelpful in every way, and especially on the subject of a simple miscommunication which he helped escalate rather than resolve. The LearnToSkate program is from 9:15-11:15, which overlaps with Adult Skate from 10:00-11:15. Peter tried to make me to pay twice for the Adult Skate program even though I was already enrolled in a program that included that session. He loudly accused me in front of the entire rink multiple times for not registering, even though I had. Then, when I asked a clarification question about skating policy, he laughed at me and was extremely condescending. I felt like I was being targeted because I was a minority there. During my experience with him, instead of being patient and understanding, he was confrontational and extremely unprofessional, purposefully trying to publicly humiliate those unfamiliar with rink policies. I am very disappointed about my experience and hope I never have a run-in like that again. The rest of the staff is great, however, and helped resolve the issue right away.

Ownership has switched hands, and I believe I had a group on both times I went, if you're looking to save a few bucks. My only complaint (at all) would be that it was a little bit warmer than I would've liked, especially once you're moving around and actually doing any sort of activity. Now that that's over, let's talk about the good parts! The axe throwing is super fun, and we all enjoyed it after learning about the rules and safety tips then learning how to hold the axe correctly and throw it, and we continued to get pointers and help as needed if we were struggling throughout our allotted time. All of the stuff we encountered were friendly and personable. One great thing that we learned is a newer offering is that the pool tables, darts, and cornhole is now free! As in, pop in and buy a beer or a hard seltzer for a drink after a rough workday and relax and unwind with free activities in a clean indoor space! We will definitely be returning to take advantage because while I LOVE axe throwing, it could get expensive to do every week. The pizza place in there is different than it was the first time we went. And, it was actually not open when we went at 1 PM on a Saturday, which was fine for us because we had already eaten and had dinner plans later so we were not there for food. Our understanding is that it's a one-man show so there may only be pizza/the restaurant open during busy hours, as opposed to every time Montana Nights is open. Something to keep in mind if you're thinking about eating while visiting.

But two and a half days ago, they contacted us to cancel because they had closed their doors for good. We didn't want to cancel the event, so what were we to do? Well, Montana Nights came to our rescue and 20 of us had a blast. Our Guardian Angel was manager Carolyn, who worked in a slot for our group, arranged an instructor, pizza and sandwiches from Square Peg, and drink tickets from their bar (beer and axes, what could go wrong?). Anyway, we had a freaking blast at Montana Nights. Our instructor Kyle was great. He gave us a safety talk, demonstrated one hand and two hand throwing techniques, and broke us into two teams for some axe flinging fun. We threw at a conventional bulls eye target, an unconventional bulls eye target where the center moved around, and Tic Tac Toe and Connect Four variations. I threw ten axes in warm ups, and then 20 axes in two ten-frame 4-person team contests. I stuck one out of ten in the warm ups, just one in Game #1, but improved significantly by sticking 4 in the second game. I even had a center Bulls Eye!! By the way, the food from Square Peg was great - lots of different pizzas, grinders cut into fours, and a big salad. Thank you Carolyn and Kyle for saving our event. It was a charity collection event where our members donated new clothing, toys, and household supplies for Madonna House in Norwich, CT. I would love to see Yelp incorporate more of some sort of charity collections at our events. Sort of a "Pay It Forward" philosophy. Everyone can afford to bring a few cans of soup or tuna to donate to a group that needs them.

We waited about ten minutes, but nobody arrived so we decided to leave. As we were leaving, an employee did pull in, but since we had no idea how long it would take to open the register and get the place going we didn't go back. I'm sure the place is fine otherwise but we couldn't patronize it.

The other playground is about 400 meters away, I found it odd that it wasn't connected to eachother; it was fenced in, but there were no gates. The splash pad and pool is fenced in and closed for the season. I think there is a fee to enter, in the summer. There was a hilly field which might be fun to sled on. The basketball courts were in use when we went; it seems to be a popular spot for leisure. There are also tennis courts and ball fields. There was a porta potty onsite; when nature calls, you have a spot! Overall, a nice neighborhood park to enjoy the outdoors and release some energy.

This small neighborhood park contains a full-sized outdoor swimming pool, picnic areas, a slide pool, multiple playgrounds, spray pad, a full-sized baseball field and two full court basketball courts. It really is an incredible park with so many entertainment and recreational choices for all ages. We walked around today, saw some kids playing on the swings and two more shooting hoops. The park was clean, and both the paved and unpaved paths were free of litter and 99% free of dog poops. It's a very nice oasis of green that's pretty much on the Hartford-West Hartford line.
