First time visiting Bombay House, and I'm honestly upset that I've passed this place for years without giving it a chance. Today definitely changed that! The restaurant was very clean, welcoming, and the food was absolutely amazing. The chicken tikka came out hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. I paired it with the basmati plow rice, garlic naan, and a side of raita, and everything blended together perfectly. Each dish brought its own flavor, and the whole meal was a great experience. Took my aunt out for her 75th birthday Thursday. We have always loved Bombay House since the food and service are so great! Our waiter and other servers were very pleasant and efficient. The decor is clean and there are colorful murals of animals found in India. We sat in a comfy booth close by the kitchen. We started with the vegetable samosas for an appetizer. It was filled with potatoes and other vegetables with a hint of spice. It was delicious. I ordered butter chicken. It was seasoned well and there was a good portion. I took more than half home for lunch. My aunt ordered chicken korma. We shared each other's tasty dishes. Basmati rice came with our entrées and we decided to order two servings of garlic naan. It was fresh and tasted wonderful. I used it to dip into my entree. We had Indian Tea which was a tad weak. Still good but wish it was stronger. I've been hearing about this place from local friends for years but never had the right chance to try it out till today. Ordered the chicken tikka Masala. It was very delicious and the mild is VERY mild, so next time I'll order medium heat and give that a try because it was missing a tiny bit of oomph for me personally. The garlic naan is phenomenal! Super fragrant and delicious, but also not the traditional naan bread I am used to. This was more like a lavash type of bread. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be or not, but this is the first time I've seen this specific type from an Indian restaurant. I also ordered the raita, which is a sour/yogurty type of creamy white sauce/dip with grated carrots, greens and some sort of pickled item I couldn't figure out yet. I wasn't a fan of this. I think maybe it's just a personal preference thing, but raita isn't for me. Overall, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. We've dined in to each here about twice so far the service is great, we didn't wait long to be seated or get our food. We love the Chicken tikka, tikka masala, palak paneer, and sag paneer. They have great naan bread and good rice. I have eaten Indian food all over the US, and this place is definitely within my standards of yummy! After the pandemic this restaurant (like many others) stopped their buffet selections. I had hope that it would return but they have felt comfortable charging a la cárte menu instead. I love, love the food here. But unfortunately, I can't afford it any more. The service is very mediocre. But I used to come for the food. We went with our family of 4, ordered the Dahal, chicken curry,2 lamb meatballs. Each dish comes with basmati rice. I had requested they only bring 2 sides of rice as to not waste cause my kids don't eat rice. And also we did 2 orders of the Naan bread. We ended up paying over $100. Oh my goodness, you walk in and just instantly smell the spices, and see all the beautiful paintings on the walls. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and continuously check in on you. The food was absolutely delicious, and the food comes out very fast! I ordered the Vegetable Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Mango Kulfi, and a Mango Lassi! Everything is so fresh and flavorful. Only downside in my opinion would be prices. Went here for group lunch today. Restaurant wasn't busy at all. Waitress acted exasperated taking our order. There was 7 of us. I ordered butter chicken and asked for bread instead of rice. They brought a basket out to the table. They charged each of us separately for their bread. LUNCH - check came out to be $27.57!!!! Holy cow -- I couldn't believe it ! Yeah -- gonna have to tell co-workers to go try other places. Food was ok but portions were small and for $27 I could have a great steak for lunch. My favorite Indian spot in Memphis so far. I always go for the Chicken Sag because it's SO good, but also because there are so many options I tend to just panic and order what i know. Veggie samosas are a must have every time we go. Tried the Fish Pakoras this time and they were decent, probably won't get those again (but always nice to try new things so don't let that deter you!) also the Indian tea seems to have heavy, whole milk in it. I didn't finish it because I just didn't want my stomach to be in knots for the rest of the night. If you're interested in the tea and sensitive to milk, just ask before you order if it's dairy or not. Service is really quick. Knocking one star off for cleanliness. It's not dirty but they could benefit from giving pest control a call. I mean, it happens.. but still. Do you remember when you were young and just learning to drink and you overdid it and you said "I'm never drinking again!"? Oh that's me pretty much every time I eat Indian food, especially good, rich Indian food. It's so easy to overdo because I want to taste everything, and then everything tastes so good that I eat more. Then I try new things (like goat!) and then I have new instant favorites that I want to add to my regular rotation which is already full of creamy sweet spicy delicious proteins vegetables potatoes and fried appetizers like pakoras. Not to mention the beer!!! My husband and I had had a long adventure full day with her three children and decided to try Taj the Indian beer. It is huge about the size of two regular beers, and I think we had two each. Our stomachs were swollen and bloated like we had two Thanksgiving dinners. I don't know if this is the experience of other people eating Indian food, but it is 100% true of me 100% of the time that I enjoy this delicious cuisine. Bombay House is so friendly and cozy, I feel like I'm with family. The owner is an excellent hostess and checked on us frequently, to make sure the kids didn't need another mango lassi or we didn't need another beer. I forgot to order naan with our food and then they allowed us to order non several minutes later, but it arrived just about a minute after our food. Most worthless hospitality! I guess i get treated with much respect at a food truck perhaps. I had their special lunch. Food was undercooked. There was no taste per se. We had to ask for the nan at it was not served with the food. So had to wait 13 mins to get a piece of nan. While I was eating I was presented with the check! (Wth man I am still eating the food you served 10 mins before) I ignored that. Then started the horror. My friend was finishing up his lunch and he got a call so he looked up in his phone and was busy with his phone. So the server decided for us that he must be done eating so he took away his plate. The question is would I recommend this place to friends. I rarely have a negative review, but this will be considered negative. I say NO because many of my friends will not eat Indian foods, because they do not stray from their typical American foods. Another reason I would not recommend is because I do not expect to return myself. I tried the food for the first time in a restaurant. I have tried frozen meals first to see if I would like the flavors, and I liked the two meals I bought. I had the sampler appetizer; I didn't enjoy that at all. Everything is fried and just didn't enjoy the tastes. The chicken meal with rice was good; my only gripe is the meal does not come with vegetables. On another note, the female who took my order was nice. I noticed that they turn over the table cloths versus replacing. I had never seen that done. Many restaurants will lay the paper sheets on top to catch spills, the but table cloths were not clean. I saw baby bugs on and the table. Overall, I was not happy with the atmosphere, so unfortunately, I will not return or recommend to anyone. The experience wasn't horrible, but it is not my cup of tea. read more
