When I saw that vase in the window I was so drawn to it. When I went into the gallery and met Suzanne she told me about the vase and Ira, and gave me space to get to know the vase. When I did decide that I had to buy it for my son and his girlfriend Suzanne agreed to ship it for me, but that's not all. She even wrote a very personal letter to them telling them about Ira and his background, and how the vase was made. Fortunately it arrived in San Francisco unbroken and they were delighted. Suzanne, the gallery's director, was nice, assertive but not overbearing, and incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. There were some nice pieces from a variety of artists, but we were completely taken by Virgil Ortiz, and ended up buying two of his large pieces. Given the gallery's modern focus with local artists, it's likely we'll be finding more pieces in the future. Definitely give this place a visit if you're in the area and interested in art.

There are also art studio spaces in the building that are rented out by local artists. Occasionally, there are " community open studio" nights. I've been to a few of them and it's incredible to be able to see the amazing things every artist is creating in their personal studio spaces. There are community classes offered as well as community events and educational engagement. Harwood is also has a Montessori school at the location as well. I really appreciate this place and definitely recommend it to anyone who is an artist, educator, art lover, learner or community minded.

Guru showed me the websites of several artists and helped me learn where to even begin. Not everything was sold through the Harwood center but they helped me to feel like I was in the loop. However, there are some exquisite canvases and a sculpture here that honestly belong in a museum in this gallery. Prices were very fair, given the level of the work. There is also a room with a number of beautiful smaller artworks and handmade crafts, such as you would find in the gift shop at MOMA, that were perfect for a special gift and honestly underpriced. I left with a bag full and am still thinking about a couple of those higher end paintings. It is rare to find original art by collectible artists in small galleries, but Marissa has a way with people and gets works that a small gallery would normally not be able to touch. I plan to return to see one of her shows. She's an excellent gallerist and would be right at home curating for a modern art museum.
