I have walked this course and it's not easy. The fairways and greens are generally well maintained and last minute bookings are possible at times. I will probably end up here at some point again. It's conveniently located and easy to get to. At the moment they have mid week green specials so it's quite reasonable to golf here. Some of the holes are really tricky and have amazing views across the harbour. Staff are friendly and helpful and it's an ok place to get a game in the city.

The venue was really nice and held around 100 guests or so. Canapes to start with followed by a buffet style dinner and ending on Lebanese sweets and birthday cake. Food was not too shabby. It was nice getting fed rather than the typical "bar tab" only style 21st's. Small dance floor up the front for anyone ready to show off their Mick Jagger moves (ok so they are probably too young to know any Mick Jagger moves). It was dark by the time I got there but I'm sure the water view would be a fantastic backdrop for any daytime event.

A pure links course - water on three sides or something like that. Who cares, it is just a stunning course in an amazing location. Imagine cresting the hill on the 5th and there's an 80 year old shipwreck on the rocks. Imagine having to cross a bridge over the Pacific Water Hazard to an island tee and hit a shot back onto Australia. It will nearly always eat your lunch the first few times. Rarely will the wind not factor - all par fives and threes face a different direction. The members are smug, nah - being honest that's just the voice of pure green envy, in fact they are super friendly and bloody good golfers on the whole (leave the pun alone - drop the weapon and slowly walk away from the pun!) Play it whenever you can, never turn down an invite or an opportunity. The most memorable golf course you will play in Australia.

Situated right next door to Royal Sydney Golf Club, Woollahra Golf Club is a lot more casual than…read moreits neighbour. For one thing, you can actually get onto it! A predominantly flat course, it offers a decent round without being too challenging. The greens are generally in excellent condition, and with it being relatively open, loss of balls should be kept to a minimum (although there is the creek which feeds into the harbour which has stolen a couple of mine over the years). They have a number of members' competitions, so ring ahead to make sure that you can tee off if you're just planning to go for a casual round ($24 for 9 holes). Club hire is available, as are coaching sessions, starting from $50 for half an hour. You should be able to get round in around an hour and a half, so its a decent course for those who are time-budgeting. Just be careful of pedestrians on the course - it's a public throughway - as sometimes they forget that they're crossing a golf course and can become cannon fodder!

I don't think you would find that anywhere else in the world, at least not within 30 minutes of the CBD of a major city. St Micks is a great course, theres a few blind tees which can be problematic and it of course suffers by comparison with NSW but it is well worth a try. Last time I played there we got held up by a group of Japanese playing in front of us who stopped to take photos of whales breaching just off the coast. In case the irony was lost on them I suggested they not eat them. Pretty easy to get on even though its a private club. Money fixes everything!

Most of the gang had the curry which looked spectacular, I opted for a salad which was likewise good. The course has some fantastic views, including some whales cavorting offshore, and some of the holes are truly challenging. The greens - ah the greens! So deceptive! Look fast, play slow, look contoured, play straight! Must have been my game. Be prepared to lose a ball or two - very unforgiving rough, eats balls like a waste-master. Recommended.

Well established, the grass is lush in the rough and perfect for divot-taking on the main. From time to time the heavily-subscribed course does shut bits off to effect maintenance, but they do their best to offer a genuine 18-hole run if that's what you've paid for. Competitions are on for members during the week, so check tee-times before you rock up. The pro-shop, on the corner of Condamine Street and Kentwell Road, is well-stocked (though I curse that their great value range is not stocked in my size!!). The gentleman that runs it consistently friendly and welcoming; the fact that I am a member elsewhere yet he still remembers my name from my few visits is very telling.

However, the food was a disappointment. The two steaks we ordered was one to be medium and the other medium rare. The waitress had no idea which was which. We were confused too as the two steaks were very well done and nearly well done. The mussels dish was very salty and there were no mussels still attached to the shells. As for the coffee, it took two visits back to the till to remind them of our order. It was a popular place but I wouldn't go back unless I knew what few dishes they may do well. There is paid parking in the street.

The views are stunning, showing off the golf course and water views of the Tasman Sea. I ordered a Caesar salad, and it came Aussie style with anchovies and Parmesan. Except for the anchovies, which I was mostly able to avoid, it was a tasty salad with exceptionally crunchy croutons. I throughly enjoy the views of waterlogged greens against the blue sea backdrop as I ate. The music was a bit loud and was mainly r&b and hiphop, which surprised me. If the place was busy, it would be difficult to converse.

Eighteen holes sit alongside the oceanfront, just north of the Mona Vale Hospital and accessed near where Pittwater Road meets Barrenjoey Road. It's a longish course to walk (five par 5s) and electric buggies are popular, but most of the fairways are fairly flat with just a few climbing back up to the clubhouse. The front nine holes are reasonable, but nothing to shout about - though they do leave you wondering why wetsuit-clad blokes with surfboards drift to and fro across the fairways. Get past the tenth hole - which takes you to the clubhouse - and it becomes clear. The back eight holes skirt to and fro along the coast, with magnificent views from Mona Vale headland reserve down to north Narrabeen. We saw whales breaching in the distance which was a distraction from the task at hand. And of course the board riders are headed to the waves of Mona Vale beach, taking a shortcut across the course. The fairway of hole 17 is actually shared with the public coast path, so be prepared to yell if your drive goes astray. Finishing at the Clubhouse for lunch was a reward too: award winning rabbit pies top the menu, but we also enjoyed some great wraps and wedges - comfort food for the foot-weary.
