Amazing, amazing, amazing.
When my boyfriend and I showed up, it was near the end of their season (they close up right before thanksgiving and open again May 24 weekend), we were the only people there for the 3pm Friday tour. I was a bit worried it would get cancelled but to my happy surprise, Chris, the gentleman who owned Bonnechere caves actually gave us two a personal tour!
Before the tour even started, he spoke to us for about 10 minutes about Eganville and we talked a bit about the Still Standing episode they were on as well as the fact that one of my favorite athletes, Melissa Bishop was from there! He was very enjoyable to speak to and easy to get along with. Before the tour stated he told us to go over by the quatre chutes, enjoy our snacks and enjoy the view. And that we did.
Chris started the tour on time and started off by giving us a bit of Background information about the town and the geographical history about it. It was great and a really nice way to brush up on my grade 4 geography. We talked about the different rocks and fossils that came out of the different eras. During the informative session, Chris let us ask as many questions as we liked and even let us touch the fossils.
After he session, he brought is into the caves and told us about the different fun facts about them (and him! ) he told us to use our phone flag flights and look and touch whatever we wanted. It was pretty cool going splunking. Won't tell you too much about the caves since that's really Chris' Forte but it was pretty knowledgeable and awe inspiring. Every once in a while they also do dining in the dark which is something I'd love to check out next time!
Afterwards, he recommended all the places around for us to explore around.
I have already recommended this to all my friends (unfortunately they close after thanksgiving weekend) who all think it is the coolest activity! (And it is) read more
