I love Book-a-Holic! I have watched it grow from the early 90s to today. Mom took me to Parklane a lot, as a kid, and now I have the website saved on my phone keeping watch for my favorites to come available. I love that they sell new stuff, as well as stickers, book marks, and other media. If I can find it at B&N, I can likely find it at Book-a-Holic, and feel better about where my money is going. They must take care of their employees because there are 2 gentleman at Plaza West that have been there for over a decade. Good prices, good organization of books in the store, and fairly good selection of books on hand. Staff are helpful.

Generally the clerks are friendly and fairly helpful. Nice selection of books and arranged fairly well so you know where to locate things. But the prices are, in general, far too high and any trade-in you get for your books is far too low. Also, they pay poorly for books you take in to sell and probably will not buy all you take in. It is comfortable. Nice seating. People leave you alone to read and decide if you want to purchase a book or DVD or whatever and the checkout is reasonably easy. Plus the store is generally quiet, which is a good thing. There are some genre of books that I wish they would carry but they don't. They don't always select the best books for their inventory. I think they select what they like and not necessarily what others may be looking for. But, for the most part, this is a decent shopping experience and usually pleasant. read more

I have shopped the brick and mortar stores many times but had never ordered online. I just received the 5 dvd's I ordered. WoW!! And I truly mean 'WOW'!! I started a series of books years ago, but only got to the 5th novel and then life became SO hectic that I stopped reading. My husband suggested that I start over from the beginning and read them now. He looked and there are now 22 novels in the series (OMG)!! I still had the first 5 novels and Book A Holic's West Location had 10 more of the novels. I came home and made a few phone calls and found out that Book A Holic had 2 other locations. I got very fortunate when I called and spoke to Ileanna (hope it's spelled correctly) at their East location. This young lady really impressed me. She HAPPILY took the phone over to my author's section and asked me to name of the ones that I was still missing from the series. She found 4 of them and I asked her to hold them for me. She stated that they would hold them for 3 days. But what really impressed me about this young lady is that she took the initiative to check their overstock and found 2 more of the novels. I am only missing 1 novel now and that's okay because it's going to take me awhile to read my way through all of these books!! But I actually got GOOSEBUMPS describing what excellent treatment I received from Book A Holic and. of course, Ileanna. read more

This is probably the best independent bookstore in the Wichita area for the average reader. Its very large store is always well-organized, clean, and generally offers a good selection throughout its sections. This place is especially good for children's and adolescent literature, to which they now have an entire room dedicated, cookbooks, and general fiction. Prices, as far as I've seen, are comparatively good and seem fair, if not stellar, for most things. What earns it low marks, in my opinion, is the utter lack of a philosophy section worth noting (which, obviously, is not a concern for everyone) and the lack of charm to the place. By this I mean that I couldn't imagine going here to hang out, read, or enjoy a morning coffee, which they don't serve anyway. Anymore, I've come to expect somewhere nice to sit, some kind of refreshments, and an appealing, inviting decor from the places at which I shop for books. Book A Holic simply does not offer that kind of experience; it's a place to buy books, and not much besides. As such, it may be a bookstore I will shop at from time to time, but never one that I will love. read more

People were rude, books in poor condition, over priced, store smelled like mold. The books in the goodwill are in better shape and cost a couple of dollars. I was interested in a book that had a fair amount of water damage it was paperback and well worn for $8, so I asked for a lower price, the lady at the counter said that if I did not want to pay the price I did not want the book. read more
