The Master Cobbler

You know... I was a fan. Laundry is a tad stressful for me here in London, as a pampered princess…read moreCalifornia former washer-dryer owner. I accept this. The washer in our building is temperamental and for the love of god, I just wanted clean sheets and a fluffy tumbled-dry towel! *shakes fist* So I looked up laundromats on Ye Olde Yelp and lo, there is one just a 7 minute walk away. I loaded up my old lady trolley with linens and off I set. it was really easy to find and while older (say... 80's, maybe?) inside, it was clean and well maintained. The service lady there offered friendly assistance when I looked vexed at the machines (the one in our building at my money until I cursed at it, so I've not had the best luck with appliances lately) and gave me the shocking skinny: £5 for the larger machines, £3 for the smaller. Go with the larger. I fit a few fitted double sheets, about 5 bath towels, a handful of kitchen towels in there and could've likely fit a few more bits. It's a longer wash, 40 minutes, but allegedly "better". The dryer is huge (good for drying duvets!) and runs £2 to £3 a load (30-40 minutes), depending on what you're drying (jeans and towels take longer, for example). But since you can likely fit everything in one dryer, it's reasonable. I got out of there for £8 and the lady working there was really nice and helpful. She also changes your money for the washers, which use no-longer-in-circulation 50p coins. Bonus: there's a very delicious bakery next door, as well as a market a couple doors down if you need to do a bit of shopping while you wait.

My wife and I have thrown all many of 'impossible' tasks the way of Spots (from ripped coats to impossible stains and everything in between) and the results have never disappointed. The staff are always friendly and personable and happy to talk through repair/stain removal options with you to make sure that you understand what the results will look like. I gave Spots a particularly difficult repair of a rip on my winter coat next to its pocket. Spots explained that the repair would not be invisible but would do the best they could. The results were far better than I could have expected and the coat once again wearable. On another occasion, I provided Spots with a jumper which (ridiculously) advised that it could not be dry cleaned or washed. Spots advised me on the pros/cons of having it hand washed or dry cleaned and, again, delivered a great result.
