First time there and probably my last. Nice enough place. Band was fine, just had the sound cranked up a bit too loud, even by Austin standards. No big deal. Drinks were fine. Only when our small group go to leave, one of our party went to close his tab at the bar. It took at least 10 min for him to get the attention of one of the bartenders (who were not swamped). Our friend is over 6 feet and burly and hard to miss. When he did get attention (after being very patient) and said he wanted to close his tab, the guy turned away from him and started chatting it up with customer at the bar. Finally the other bartender came over and took care of him. For the owner: this was Sat Feb 6 around 12:45am. Bartender was wearing a ball cap. I could imply issue with race since our friend was not white, (I will give him benefit of the doubt), but I am chalking it up to just bad customer service and lack of sense. read more

This is great happy hour bar. Prices are great and the staff is friendly and professional. While my husband plays video golf, my friends and I are kicking ass on the trivia. There's also darts, pool, and ping pong. My husband and I are one of the "early crowd" but I know the late folks enjoy karaoke and live music. Love this place! read more

I used to pass Boomerz pretty frequently as I had a friend who lived near there. I always thought it was strip club. Then I found out it wasn't. I was curious what kind of people go to Boomerz. I'd never met anyone who'd ever been there. Supposedly the brother of a friend of a friend went there once. That was as close as it got. Then, the other weekend there was absolutely nothing going on in town on a Friday night. EXCEPT Two Hoots and a Holler were playing Boomerz. Me and 2 friends decided we had to go. We got pretty liquored up first, and then made the plunge. The parking lot was totally packed. I had no idea what to expect. AND...it was pretty much exactly like i thought it'd be. The place is laid out that it once used to be a strip club. It seems like it very likely was at some point. The bar is in the middle, just as you walk in. To the right of the door are some tables, and a stage, where Two Hoots was playing. To the left of the bar is a whole other section. I think it might have been elevated. It was pretty packed up at that section. There were pool tables there, and maybe more. Anyway, we grabbed a seat, and mostly sat back, and got more drunk, and enjoyed the scenery and the music. There were several very interesting looking characters in the bar, as I'd hoped there would be. It seemed to definitely be a lot of regulars, assumedly folks that lived close by, and then some college age persons as well. The table in front of us was comprised of 2 couples, guy/girl, guy/girl. Both of the females had fairly long hair, at least down to their shoulders. Both of their guys had hair longer than them...down to their waist almost. It was awesome. And as I was basking in the awesomeness, the waitress came up to take our order. "Hey, i know you somehow" she said. "Yup" i said. "I know you too". "How do i know you?" she said. and i sort of laughed. "Did we hook up once?" she asked "No... you were friends with my ex-girlfriend" i said. And then her eyes lit up. "Oh yes...she and i hooked up in the pool". Yup. Boomerz is the kind of place where magic like that happens. Boomerz was a great experience. A little too big a place for me, but I'll go back at some point I'm sure. Miller High Life is only $2 all day every day. And that suits me just fine. JFC. I've somehow lived in Austin for ten years and just went to this place recently. That said, I now know why I've never been here. This place is an enigma. It's in Austin yet everyone in here and being in there makes you feel as if you've long left ACL. Decent liquor selection, strange crowd, weird music choices on their godforsaken digital jukebox. Just left Boomerz and I must say I had a great time! They had a great 80's cover band and the bar staff was pretty awesome. I've read reviews about the bartender wearing the ball cap so I was Leary, however he was the nicest guy I've ever met, I would totally recommend this place to anyone of any race, they treat you nice and make you feel welcome. I will definitely be going back there, it's my go to neighborhood bar. And I can't forget to mention the incredibly cute Australian bartender, yet another reason to love this place. read more

Boomerz is Great. If you just want to have a couple of beers and relax without having to impress anyone, this is the place to do it. Honest folks, good drink prices and LOTS of room to stretch out. You don't have to fight to get up to the bar and get a drink, and you don't have to be packed in shoulder to shoulder with sweaty dudes all night. The beer is cold, the air conditioning works, and the staff is friendly. Great live music too. (I think on Saturday nights?). We saw a band called Bad Marmot play last month and they were a great fit for the place. If you want to pay $10 for a shot and fight for an opening to do it, find another bar. read more

Only 16 people in this place at a max at all times then after leaving a tip she decides to come out and yell because it wasn't over 50% when I was ignored the whole time. I will never go back and personally think that this is the kind of place that keeps oak hill a nobody because no one wants to deal with bartenders like this! Well first off I highly recommend going to see Mel she is absolutely amazing and not bad on the eyes either! Every time I've been in here she couldn't be anymore friendly, she remembers my name and drink which is always something to make you feel welcome especially somebody coming from the service industry but other than that such a cool fun place to come hangout wether it be karaoke or the live dj on the weekends or just hanging out shooting a game of pool playing darts or listening to the jukebox (which almost has everything you could think of ) but if you're in the area I would say to for sure stop by and have a drink read more

This bar/club is great! The customer service is alway on, and friendly for sure. Parking is plent, looks decieving from the outside but wait till you go in, very different but fun. Ive met some great friends and as a woman I feel very comfortable going alone, everyone justs starts talking to you and its so friendly and comfortable. I think most people steer clear of Boomerz because the sign outside says Boomerz Nightclub which is misleading. It's nothing more than a dive bar in an old depressing shopping center. It's dark and dingy inside and full of locals. The drinks are really stiff and the bartenders are really friendly as well. Some days they have free pool, karaoke, and even poker tournaments. Your first time at Boomerz is a bit intimidating but after you go a couple of times you start to feel comfortable there. All the patrons we've run into all have been really nice. Just remember where you're at, this isn't the lounge at the W Hotel. read more

I like it. It's dark and lit with neon. It's got a bunch of pool tables adjoining. It's filled with locals and the a/c is good. Stella is 3.50 (I told that Loch Ness monster I ain't got no tree fitty). It smells funny, but in a way a good bar should. Not many bars to choose from in the area so you take what you can get. This place is not anything special. If you're a local and a regular I suppose it's comfortable; if you're not, it's just kinda dumpy and largely empty. There's a nice internet jukebox but the bartenders adjust the volume down according to their tastes, so play what they like or you've wasted your money. There are some really dumb people who come here - not the brightest group of people by any means but it represents the neighborhood I suppose. Sometimes there's a mediocre band that everyone ignores or a DJ that's plays crappy dance music too loud. The bartenders are friendly if they like you. They'll charge your tab 2 days later so pay as you go to avoid surprises. I'd like to find something special about the place but there really isn't anything. Not quite a dive, not anyplace you'd find someone you'd want to wake up with in the morning. It is what it is which isn't much. read more
