How do I love thee... let me count the ways... First I'd like to tell the reader that they have TWO…read morepick up locations. If you don't want to go to Evans, there is one on Broad St. across from the Kroc Center. I usually park there, it's after 5:30 and skip across the grass. Remember to bring some reusable bags to get your stuff! Meanwhile, I tried that "green store that takes much of your paycheck" and found it to be seriously disappointing! I mean let's get serious here... level 1 meats are about the same as any other grocery and NOT why I'd pay so much more. I was so excited to find this website locallygrown.net which has locations all over (so I'm totally saving it in case I move again). The "store" opens online on Friday with how much of what is available from real local farms and artisans. You scoop up the goodies and pay to make sure you get that last share of jalapeños... then pick it all up on Tuesday night. They have veg, fruit, all kinds of meats, dairy, flowers, herbs, candles, soaps, baked goods... etc. Go, have a look! You can chose from grass fed, organic, pasture raised... all of the things I adore. I found the size of share and freshness to be very good. Make sure you check everything and don't leave without some greens... like I did. Everything seems to last so much longer because it's fresh! I wish I had found this years ago...

Stop eating crap and start eating great ingredients and fresh foods available from local farmers. I…read morecan't say anything bad about the Augusta Locally Grown (ALG) they are so well organized and offer a lot for the money. Of course, ALG links farmers to consumers via the internet. Orders are placed every Friday at noon thru Sunday at 8pm. Buyers have two locations in Augusta to pick up - Evans Town Center or West End bakery in the old Harrisburg community of Augusta. We haven't really been to a grocery store since beginning with ALG back in June. We order fresh milk, pasture raised eggs; grass fed beef and pork; vegetables galore from farmers who have now become acquainted with me. I support the local farmers, eat well and all at a modest cost. Once you start with ALG you'll always wonder why you spent your hard earned money at the chain stores. Buyers also get to know their farmers and the farmers are always eager to answer your questions about how they farm organic, etc. I buy all of my meats for the month and re-stock the milk, eggs and veggies weekly. Always something great to prepare for meals!

Fair warning: Bluffton is not a big down, and despite this market being on a weekday, I have never…read moreseen this area as packed as it was for the market. You can still find parking a couple of blocks away, but the area had a cramped feeling that it usually does not. The reason for this, I assume, is that this is a pretty impressive market as these things go. The setup is on a green square and allows plenty of opportunity to sit and eat or otherwise enjoy oneself, but shade is also available and there are some bathroom facilities on the square. The vendors were a good variety for a market of this size, including several fresh vegetables and local rice, but also baked goods and some of the sort of prepared food that you'd be more inclined to eat on the spot. Prices were high, as one might expect. But I don't think that anyone inclined to shop here would not find something distinctive and local to be worth paying money for.

Parking is free on the outer perimeter of the park and neighboring streets. That is a huge plus for me. Also I love that it is true to what it is which is local growers of fruits and vegetables. There is a couple of food to eat booths as well. This particular visit I was running late and arrived at 1pm an hour before they close. Since I was hungry I stopped at this booth that had dumplings or lo mein noodles. The dumplings were not reading so I got the lo mein had very little vegetables and the lo mein was okay not the best I ever had just average. Next I went to a particular vegetable stand that I have been to before with great success. Meaning I got home and the purchases were good. Last week I got a cantaloupe and tomato here. This week needed peaches for my Mother In Law. They were firm and the size of a baseball. Six of them weighed in at $17. Next I stopped at a booth that had pralines. I chose one with walnuts $3.00. The taste was very buttery and really hit the spot. Just as I headed back to the car it started to rain. So glad to just miss it. Note all vendors have covers over their booths. To protect their items and to keep out of the sun/rain. Definitely will continue to come here as I love the small town flair and every one is so nice and friendly.
