So when a social-distance class opened, i was excited to try it. Social-distance/online dog lessons may sound like they wouldn't work, but I definitely recommend it. We were late once because my dog refused to listen to me and leave the park for over an hour, but Judy and Sue gave me direction on things to try. It dramatically changed how he and I interact. If even my stubborn and opinionated dog can learn "down," "stay," and "come" through online classes, I'm sure yours can too.

Our most recent appointment was on a Saturday at 9am. We arrived right on time and our dog literally had to be dragged in. He's typically hesitant when we bring him in (which to be honest has always made me feel a bit suspicious about how he's treated) but he's never had to be physically dragged in and that left me feeling uneasy. Our dog's grooming appointments typically last around 2.5-3 hours, so at 12pm we decided to head down to Iowa City (we live in North Liberty). I figured our dog was probably close to being done since we were at the 3 hour mark. We end up waiting until 1pm (it's now been 4 hours) before giving the shop a call to ask for an update. She tells me she's "got him on the table now" and that he should be done in AT MOST 40 minutes. We weren't too happy about this. That made me think that he had been sitting in a kennel waiting to be groomed for a while. An HOUR goes by, still no call. It's now been 5 hours since we dropped him off, and we've now wasted most of our day waiting around for him to be done. This has NEVER happened before (and we've probably had 7-10 appointments over the last year), and we really would have appreciated a call if they knew it was going to take longer than normal. We decided to show up anyway. As we are pulling into the parking lot, we see the groomer and other employees standing in a circle taking a smoke break, and the groomer sees us pull in. Sure enough, they call us 5 minutes after we park to tell us that our dog is ready. He is completely shaved--his fur gets matted very easily so that's fine-- but what's not fine is that it took you 5 hours to shave our dog? And you're taking a smoke break while our dog is sitting in some back room and you know we're ready to pick him up? It's hard for me to write things like this--especially about a small business that's owned by a woman--but this was very disappointing and unprofessional. I also have a strong feeling that if my fiancé and I were older, we would have been taken more seriously and treated with more professionalism. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and we no longer recommend Hawk-dog grooming. :(

In that initial phone call Chelsey gave me SO much useful information, was reassuring and more importantly, validating my feelings in all of the experiences I had. Chelsey happened to have a black german shepherd that she just found out she was not going to be able to breed because of missing molars (which is NOT the german shepherd standard but we LOVE an ethical breeder). She sent me pics and the rest is history. Whoopi and I bonded for a couple months before her service dog boarding (which I called college). During our bonding time, chelsey was extremely helpful and reassuring. I was able to reach out and schedule time to meet to go over issues I was having. The homework idea is genius, I cannot believe how wrong I was about so many training methods and I felt so ready. While whoopi was boarded for service animal school I re-did the homework all over again just so I would be ready. I'm so glad I did, it made the transition to bringing her back home and into my job so easy. Whoopi has now graduated college and is so pumped to make so many new friends. I'm so thankful for all of the time, love, and energy Chelsey (and her family) have made into giving me the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Our dog did the 8-week training program at Knallhart and came home calm and well-behaved and not anxious. He is no longer reactive on the leash and can stay in place when someone rings the doorbell and comes inside to visit. Such a game changer!! Knallhart is saving the lives of dogs and we are so thankful!! Highly recommend!!

I lost my GSD mix, Wrigley, December 6, 2019. They did everything in their power to save her, but…read moreit was just too late. Dr. Sullivan even called emergency vets to make sure they were updated by the time we got there to avoid wasting any of the precious time we had. She called me on the way to the emergency vet to make sure I was also updated and knew what was going on. After she found out Wrigley crossed the rainbow bridge she called me to talk through losing her. It helped so much to talk about everything that happened, and then a few days later we received a very heartfelt card from Dr. Sullivan and the two vet techs that were with Wrigley at her last appointment with them. We later took our other dog to the North Liberty location (because Eastside didn't have any openings and we needed to go ASAP) to get her Lepto vaccine because we suspected lepto was what took Wrigley. The NL location is just as accommodating, and just as amazing. I would HIGHLY recommend either location!

By this summer we had been taking our pets to Eastside Pet Clinic for over 13 years. Like most…read morecats, ours hates to be in a carrier and to leave the house. She's terrified of the carrier, so we spend a couple weeks before a vet appointment putting treats in it so we don't have to force her in when the time comes. She was due for her shots, but had also been having vomiting issues, as well as what seemed to be other digestive issues. We showed up on time with the stool sample they had requested. Our usual vet was on vacation, so one of the owners was our vet that day. From the start she was short, disinterested in our questions, and seemed to want to rush through the visit. And that's exactly what happened. She wouldn't take the stool sample (which, as stated had been requested), she was dismissive of our questions, and never even looked our cat's backside, or checked into anything related to our primary reasons for being there. She administered the usual shots, and sent us on our way with nothing more than the usual recommendations for the sensitive stomach prescription cat food they sell at the store, even after we had reminded them had not worked. When our usual vet returned from vacation we called and asked her email so that we could explain our disappointments regarding the previous visit. We sent off an email, and two weeks later, had not heard back. I called to make sure the email had come through, and the assistant answering the phone confirmed that it had, but that our vet was particularly bad about answering emails. She said she'd try to get her to respond. This was the beginning of what turned out to be a bizarre and wholly unprofessional cycle of labored communication. We sent another email, called again and were told the same- "she's bad with email, but we'll try to get her to respond." Over the course of 4 months, between many calls and email check ins, we received no phone calls, got two emails, the first with a one sentence apology for the disappointing service but no explanation, followed by a long list of info and questions. The second (after weeks of waiting and check ins) just another list of questions, which we responded to again, but then never heard back. To this day...two months later. No resolution, no final suggestions or plan, just a totally botched visit, two lists of questions and a pile of unanswered emails and calls. In the end one of the employees apologized, volunteering that the whole thing was bizarre and unprofessional, and vowing to get the acting head of the franchise to email or call us. But that too never happened. We called one last time to make sure that this administrator had gotten our correct info, and this time the same employee told us that if it were her, she'd just go to a different clinic. So...after 13 years we're looking for a new vet, and felt obligated to let any pet owners know before hauling your little one into East Side Pet Clinic that you may want to adjust your expectations.
