Love the new wonder melon with energy booster. Was starving the other day after the gym and it was exactly what I needed!

Service, however, is so slow you want to kill yourself. Had to wait forever to have our order taken, then our food took a super long time, and we had to wait even longer to get the bill. Matcha's food and coffee are quite the experience that you have to try once. Their menu is plantbased, which isn't a favorite for a hardcore carnivore like me, but I'm glad I tried it. I got the Smurf latte, which just tasted like warmed up coconut milk. Sure, it's what they're known for, but I'd say to try something else. I tried the peanut butter latte, and that was better. For food, we got the Rainbowl. Felt like I was back in Bali!!! Such a healthy meal, and a good way to try three of their bowls at the same time. It's pricey, but I'd say it's worth one time.

The range of lattes on offer is astounding, you can almost drink the rainbow in this gorgeous cafe. If you've not had the chance to visit before, do yourself a favour (alternatively, do yourself a flavour - boom-tish) and head in for amazing vegan eggs, no clucks given popcorn chickn, or the rainbow pancakes / range of lattes.

I woke up Monday morning to an email asking if I'd like to "pop out to Happy Place this afternoon…read morefor a beetroot latte and a raw paleo cake." Who says no to such an offer? (Also: How positively Melbournian!) Upon arrival at this tiny shop on the outside of South Melbourne Market, I was immediately beguiled by the recherché menu. Gems from it include a shroom latte (medicinal mushroom powder, chicory root, dandelion, stevia, almond milk) and an 'I Love Oprah' smoothie featuring monga waratah, a shrub endemic to Australia that's purported to help one find inner strength. After a long peruse I ordered the Mexicano Cacao (raw cacao, cacao butter, chilli, black pepper extract, cayenne, coconut milk) for myself and a cup of the bone broth to share with my mates. The Mexicano Cacao was rich and nicely spicy. But the real winner was the wonderfully toothsome bone broth. I could easily drink a cup a day of this savory stuff. Happy Place isn't set up for hanging out, as there are no seats inside but it's a solid spot to grab a smoothie, hot drink or a light lunch (I loved the look of the seared ahi slices on offer in the salad case!).

If you're feeling a bit bloated I highly recommend grabbing a cup of their $6 broth for lunch. You won't regret it. But Happy Place, owned by nutritionist Lola Berry and Salvatore of St Ali fame, is much more than just a good broth. Here you will find smoothies with Aboriginal leaves that can instil various feelings within you (think strength, wisdom, kindness), salads and proteins galore and lattes of all colours of the rainbow. I went for a turmeric latte, which warmed me up on a freezing June day, while my pals went for the Mexican Cacao, which was truly a standout (obviously I took a sip and then hogged it). It tasted a lot like a spicy hot chocolate. Absolute perfection in winter. While I didn't indulge, there were a variety of salads available for you to grab and go. Because Happy Place are good to Vegan folk, you add your protein separately - there are little cups of chicken, salmon and tofu available to add. While this is pretty much a takeaway place only (there are only a few built in bench seats available), it shouldn't stop you from popping by and grabbing a footpath bench to nosh down on your healthful goodies before you head into the market.

Such a great vibe with all you could really want from a grocery store and a great coffee spot. There were plenty of tables inside and out, and the staff were all really friendly. Prices were as high as expected but worth it for the quality of groceries and household items. The coffee was also excellent! I think the only downside is no wifi; it is listed but does not work. Not a huge deal, I just tethered my phone.

Southbank has been a bit of a grocery wasteland with ample convenience stores but no real alternatives for healthy and fresh food. In steps Broad Bean with their selection of fresh food and groceries. As expected organic supplies are pricier than the average store but given the lack of alternatives and the very high prices charged around Southbank they are a very welcome and appreciated. With a beautiful looking store, friendly staff and good selection I'll be ducking in occasionally to check out their wares.

This leafy, somewhat industrial neighborhood is so close to the city grid but somehow feels like another town. A place where it's OK to sleep in until 10AM, head out for a late brunch and have a few cheeky Bloody Mary's between coffees. My friends and I arrived on a sunny Sunday afternoon to find the friendly staff joking between each other - it seems like a happy place to be. Opening next door to the fantastic Uncle Rocco's Barbershop only a short while ago, Punchbowl Canteen is a great new café. Local residents and workers have already discovered this foodie haven ripe for a brunch expedition. Housed in the former home of the Red Tulip Easter Egg factory, Punchbowl features large lofty ceilings and ten-foot high colorful wall art from illustrator Leah Bartholomew. Head chef Elizabeth Milroy has crafted a menu that features interesting twists on classic dishes. Local produce is a key focus for Punchbowl with the menu proudly listing their key suppliers. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Australian breakfast staple vegemite paired with some tasty Welsh rarebit, cheese and leek on toast. Other dishes of note include the Earl Grey tea-smoked trout, a slow cooked beef cheek burger with just the right amount of cheese and fish cake scotch egg with radish and pear. A wood-fired oven sits at the entrance to slow-cook meats for the kitchen as well as tasty pastries to grab and go. Vegan smoothies, freshly made juices and some interesting thick shakes (loaded with lots of ice cream) round out the menu nicely. The Gingerbread thick shake was defiantly a keeper. Fitzroy coffee roaster, Industry Beans are supplying the caffeine. Outdoor seating is under a lovely big, 100 year old tree and there is plenty of on street parking making this an easy destination café for families and food adventurers like us. We love that Port Melbourne is punching above its weight with excellent destination cafes like this.
