Yet we stupidly (brilliantly?) moved into a home with a beautiful Florida native/tropical garden. The previous owner was retired, very knowledgeable, had ties with the botanical gardens, and treated her garden with the utmost care. Meanwhile, we both work full time and didn't even know where to start. We tried hiring a few landscapers, who all told us our yard was out of their skill set. So after two years, it was overgrown and looking like a "hot mess" (per my neighbor). We searched and searched for someone who could take on such an extreme job, and were ghosted numerous times. Until finally we found Happy Plants. From the first visit, Krissy was a ray of sunshine. She fawned over the plants and told us how excited she was to help us take control of our yard and regain the natural beauty that drew us to the house in the first place. She started work soon after, and work she did. There was no job too insignificant and she spent hours upon hours pulling weeds, pruning, and breathing life back into our yard. She was there so often in the beginning that she became a bit of an icon on my street. She befriended all the neighborhood dogs, even the scared rescue who runs from everyone now searches for her every time he passes according to his dad. She also spent a ton of time talking with me about the plants - what they were, how to care for them, whether the were Florida native, how to prune over time to fix the now overgrown shape, etc. Just sharing her knowledge with me, answering every question I had. And probably most important for anyone reading a review: the end product was fantastic. Every time I'm in my yard, someone compliments it. And I mean EVERY time. And the credit goes to Happy Plants 100%. Krissy goes above and beyond to make sure you get whatever you want. She's even put some of our plants in Happy Plants ICU, where she gave them extra care in her own spare time and brought them back healthy and thriving. Which of course saves us money by not having to buy anything new. TLDR: my yard was an actual jungle before Krissy and Happy Plants came to save it. We now get constant compliments and my neighbors have all expressed how much they love Krissy as a person and as a gardener. Absolutely hire her if you want your plants to be happy.

This is a followup of a review I wrote for this company in…read more August 2025. As a private homeowner, I hired this company to design and transform my yard into a visually pleasing property which included installing and preparing a vegetable garden. I had observed the company's work and felt confident I was making a wise decision. However, based on a misunderstanding by the manager, the relationship with Happy Plants Private Gardening and Design became a nightmare. The manager claimed that another company was hired to revise Happy Plant's work. No matter how I tried to correct the misconception, the manager would not listen. Later, even the judge tried to explain that she had misunderstood. I filed in small claim court in September 2024. The final hearing occurred June 2026. This is August 2026 and I am receiving notifications from the appellate court; the company has unsuccessfully filed three appeals. This is after the court awarded me less than half of what I paid the company and I did not receive one plant in my yard. The company even took plants I already had and was to use them in the design later; I didn't even get those back. There were over 290 entries on the lower court's docket; I appeared before the court seven times; Happy Plants tried to have the judge DISQUALIFIED! As I said, I believe the work done by the company would have surpassed anything I could do for myself; however, I would have gladly walked away from the entire case had I thought I would not have been held responsible for the company's lawyer's fees (yes, initially, the company hired a lawyer and no, I didn't) court reporter fees, and who knows what other expenses Happy Plants would claim. I can wallpaper a room with the paper from all of the motions filed by the company. I must truthfully state, that because of my lack of experience with the court systems and processes, I was not prepared when the judge asked me about any additional expenditures I'd incurred. Therefore, I didn't recover the costs to replace what was removed and had to be replaced nor what I spent to complete the raised vegetable garden beds. But even these costs do not matter. I learned more useful information from this experience than I learned while earning a masters degree from USF. Unfortunately, I have had to place a lien on the business. All of this could have been avoided had I just received what I paid for in 2024. You cannot put a price on the loss of time, energy, and peace that occurred while dealing with Happy Plants Private Gardening and Design LLC.

In just a few days, Shannon Young and his team transformed both yards into magazine-worthy landscapes at a VERY reasonable cost. Shannon is a perfectionist and has an amazing knowledge of what plants will do best under various circumstances (e.g., sun/shade ratios). He has a keen sense of color and placement. We have engaged his services for periodic maintenance as well so that we don't lose the beauty he created. I recommend Bear Paw to anyone, whether the job is big or small. They did a decent job with the moving for about a month, maybe three weeks…read more They then started skipping weeks without any communication. I would text for an update and sometimes get one. I asked for better communication and was told (by the owner) that he would do better. The final straw was him going a full week with no communication and a missed mowing date. Forever Unique Landscaping came highly recommended by multiple people. It's sad that Ryson had such poor communication skills.

The last year they have slid downhill, hard. Work has become shoddy, with drunks showing up and basically refusing to work. The manager inspected the last landscaping job his crew did, was supposedly upset at the low quality of the work and stated that he would be back on the weekend to correct the work. That was months ago and the last we heard from him. Phone calls and messages also go unanswered. We've hired another company who does excellent work and on the plus side charges 1/2 of what these guys did. Avoid this company, they're not worth the trouble.
