It's the only optician I've ever been to which (I think) get my prescription right every time. I recommended this place to my girlfriend and after a couple of bad experiences with prisms and other opticians, they got her right first time. Sorted her out with a good quality set of frames too. However, having been a job where I was paid a pittance and I could no longer get back to my old optician (who was so nice he would spread my payments for glasses etc to suit me), I decided to join the masses and sign up to Specsavers. This branch has recently opened after its predecessor in Union Street closed and the premises is brand-new and much bigger. In Union Street it was crammed into two separate outlets which were dingy and cramped. Sadly it being Specsavers and it being in the city centre, there is just too much footfall to mean you are treated like anything other than just another client but they do have fantastic deals. My glasses are normally really expensive because my lenses have to be ground down loads as I am so blind and Specsavers meant I could get two frames for the price of one which was a massive help. Their monthly contact lens scheme is also unbeatable value. But I do find there are way too many staff there to justify how long you often have to wait. It seems like a case of too many chefs. And I still maintain quality of service is not uppermost in their minds. But I guess it's the quantity of people they get through their doors that is their priority and they are obviously achieving that as it is always really busy.

The staff are much more on the ball and helpful than their Broadmead counterparts and once you suss out which level does what it's pretty straightforward. The floor you walk in at is where all the glasses are displayed and they always have some decent offers on. I got two nice pairs of specs for about £70 (which I billed my old employer when it provided me with health insurance). There is also a help desk on this level where people can book you in for appointments etc. But if you want any sight tests or contact lenses you will need to go downstairs. The contact lens fella is a really nice guy and helped me solve the problem of hayfever vs. Contact lenses (I now wear daily disposables). They also will try their best to save you money, which is nice.

I had bought some glasses online and then fallen over and bent them out of shape - oops! I went into the shop unsure as to whether they'd help me but they did - the girl was really friendly and spent a few minutes heating them up and bending them back into shape for me. They weren't perfect but she made her best effort and they were good enough to get around in. It's a pretty new shop - I think it's been there a couple of years now, so everything inside is still relatively nice looking though it's a lot smaller than their city centre branch so you may need to go to a bigger store if you're choosing frames. I'd be happy to go back here for an eyetest any time though.

I got my eyes tested here about five years ago, got my new pair of glasses and have sat on them at regular intervals over the past five years. Every time I have taken the squashed and broken glasses back to them they have repaired them with no questions asked and no hassle; Just polite friendly service. They might not be the cheapest in town, with all of the people handing out discount flyers for other chains in this city, but I will certainly be getting my glasses from here in the future. They have recently had a makeover and are looking very slick indeed; they even offered to photograph my eyeballs (?) so I could see behind them. Definitely a Facebook profile photo if I ever take them up on their kind offer.

- Went to buy some sunglasses, was persuaded to buy a £60 pair as you get 2nd half price…read more - The specsavers employee said she'd put down on the system I'd gotten the glasses and was going to definitely get the '2nd half price' deal when I came for an appointment to test my eyes. - When I came to have my eyes tested, they couldn't find me on the system so the deal no longer applied. - The expensive sunglasses then literally fell apart a week later (they lasted two weeks). Came in for a refund but they refused as, again, the record of me buying them could not be found. Absolutely furious and disgusted. You'll be better off with the £1 primark glasses than anything from this place, they last significantly longer and less chance of getting completely scammed through utter incompetence.
