This has to be the most inconsiderate customer population in the surrounding area. Why do people feel they need to have conversational talk--in person & on cell--in a library!! Don't bother taking to the staff, totally useless on this issue. They don't want to hurt snowflakes feelings. I've talked to the staff in person and sent numerous emails/feedback submission thru the BCLS online system. Will it hurt to place simple table signs to keep your tone to a whisper and no cell phone conversations (only in the lobby area). I'll be satisfied with a regular announcement on the PA, at least your brain will zone that out over a short period of time. I think I will start a campaign, take and post a picture of self-centered, inconsiderate, and annoying people so I can share it with the library staff as evidence to change their policy and enforce it.

The librarian that we always see is amazing She makes my nephews day. The librarian today (who's desk and computer where facing the sitting area where the marbel run is, not the computers for library patrons.) was not a lovely person to meet. So when we met this librarian to ask her for marbels for the run, she had spilled beads allover her desk the floor ext. My nephew did not hesitate to help got too big hand fulls for her it was cute. She then went on to ignore us as she picked up every bead. Then when she finely helped us(shoving her hand in her desk and pulling out 2 marbels shoving them in his face and saying you can have this) it was a disgusting, the diference in what i have always bin met with at this library was night and day. I explained that the other librarian lets him pic the marbels and also lets us take 4(We have never lost a marbel and if you want me to bring marbels just ask) so after agreeing she slams it on the tabel in front of my nephew like a child. so not to say this interaction with this "adult" killed the mood for my nephew, the marbel run he was asking to play with all week we played with for mayby 10-15 minutes because of this, then when my nephew gave back the marbels he came back almost crying because of the interaction, at another point he is siting on a chair by your back window and he puts his head in one of the small metal square(left and right bottoms of the window screen) cus he wants to crawl out the window rather then walk out the library past her. I had to carry my nephew out of Burlington County Library in not a fun way but to make him feel safe and wanted. And at the end of all this he told me "im done with the librery, i dont want to come back." And those two sentences are why you got this review. also that librarian should not be in the children's section if she is going to make children cry.

So the next day we decided to check it out. This place blew us away. The modern architecture is stunning with different levels, and there is even a fireplace. There is also a room dedicated just for magazines with the most current issues. If you like movies the library has an impressive selection of DVDs. Even their restrooms have fancy Dyson faucets. There is a cafe as well. One of the upper levels offers a nice outdoor patio balcony. Good to see the tax dollars going back to the community. No matter how old you are, go get yourself a library card. There is a parking garage nearby. It's a great way to spend the day reading a book or two.

In case you don't know much about cell towers, please do yourself and your family a favor and research. While I sympathize with that person's situation, a bad Yelp review will not remedy those conditions, nor will it accurately portray how good this library is. Since my first review I have visited a handful of other NJ libraries and feel that this branch exceeds almost all of them. As with many things in life, it is the little details that matter. Starting at the entrance, and even at the exit doors( which are somewhat interchangeable ) you encounter book shelves containing FREE books. The subjects vary widely but I like to take a minute or two to scope out the selection. I have found some gems too!( most recently a very clean copy of Hawking's " A brief history of time") As another reviewer noted, there is almost always a book sale going on, the costs are about $1-$3,these books are in very good condition and are organized by subject or genre. As far as their book catalogue goes, most of my favorite fiction authors are represented, and the more contemporary ones are updated with their newer works in a timely manner. Older and critically acclaimed authors are also present, and their better known titles can sometimes be found with more than one copy. Recently I've been taking advantage of their DVD selection and find it to be much better than most other libraries. They seem quick to acquire new releases and many popular premium channel series are available. Skip RedBox and come here if possible. There are many programs and events to attend here as well, mainly for children but adults are not left out. They are now doing Saturday afternoon screenings of various movies, some for the whole family, with others being more R rated.( a recent screening of " American Pastoral" comes to mind) I have found the staff to be very friendly and often find myself discussing books, movies or authors with them. There are plenty of work stations, some with computers and others set up for you to use your own. And some pretty cool seating options too, think cozy couches and big Papasan type cushion chairs. Heck, there's even a table with a communal jigsaw puzzle awaiting completion. As I stated in my prior review, I hope that Mercer County residents and visitors utilize this resource. Needed to do some literary research today, and the only library anywhere nearby who had what I…read moreneeded was Bryn Mawr's Canaday Library. I am a local resident, and am not currently a student anywhere, so I called first to see what access was allowed to me. Swarthmore, Haverford and Bryn Mawr colleges work together for inter-library loaning on the Tri-pod system, which is an online catalog of all their collections, accessible to any i-net user. You don't have to be a student to visit the libraries and read, but you do need a school card to check out. I had used Tri-pod to ascertain which library had what I needed, before calling for more info. (According to my local township library, there is an inter-library loan process which would allow me access to Tri-pod items and be lent something through my library, but, since it takes over a week to process, I have not personally done this. I am relating the info I was given, but I do not know for sure how much access is really permitted via inter-library loans, to libraries outside the three Tri-pod schools.) I was very impressed with the politeness and helpfulness of the young woman who answered the phone at the Bryn Mawr science library, however, I ended up calling her only because I could not get a live soul on the line for Canaday, even after multiple calls, and leaving a message. That part was a really poor experience, especially when we finally got there and saw FOUR staff members sitting at the circulation desks, doing nothing but their own classwork, while on duty. Come on. This would not fly at other libraries. I even called McCabe at Swarthmore just to see if they had someone answering at that time, and a very helpful young man was live on the other end, ready to help me, so Canaday, seriously, answer your phone! The helpful staff member at the Bryn Mawr science library told me that "Visitor Hours" for Canaday Library, which I guess are different from student hours, are 8-6 M-F, and 10-5 on Sat. Upon visiting on a week day, it was well after 6pm when we left, and they were making no signs of closing, so I assume they run late for students (normally campus libraries are open until closer to midnight) but would like visitors to leave earlier. For safety reasons, especially since this is a women's school, I can certainly understand and respect that. The library was organized and clean. I did not see any features on display, such as an art collection or those snazzy decorative architectural niches, that many other academic libraries have. Normally a school library is a showplace, even at private schools, on an upper school level. While I like looking at the neat things academic libraries normally display (glass cases of rare books, Native American artifacts, antique local photography, etc.), it was also a little refreshing not to have the pomp and circumstance, and we certainly did not explore the entire building, so I could be missing something outstanding. But for what we saw, it was a plain old library, with books as the main event. I hope to have more time to explore next time. For the section of literary journals where we were, it was very inclusive of all I needed, and actually had several other literary reviews that were really helpful as well. Definitely strong on their collection for all my research purposes, and then some. I had a positive experience, as well, speaking to the main reception at Bryn Mawr, another student who was very helpful. I call there to ask about visitor parking and she patched me through to Campus Safety / Public Safety, who unfortunately did not have a name for the lot, but confirmed what I saw online on their interactive map, which called it "Campus Center Parking," off of New Gulp Road. I posted a map with visuals to help anyone needing to know where this is. This was my first time at Canaday. When I took some undergrad classes at Penn, and then grad classes at Penn and Rosemont, I had always used the HUGE library at Penn, or McCabe Library at Swarthmore College. I have to say I really like McCabe, and that is normally my go-to when I have a choice. They have the perfect aesthetic for a college library (decor combo of tasteful architecture, sculpture, art, and an amazingly comprehensive book collection). But, while I didn't feel as at home at Canaday, I did feel comfortable enough to get work done there, which is the whole point. All in all it was a strong positive experience at Canaday. The Bryn Mawr campus, like many, has a strong Gothic architectural influence. I also cannot help but think of Katharine Hepburn, one of their most well-known alumni. Katharine's "Bryn Mawr accent" is a joy to watch, as it comes and goes, when she thinks about using it, in her earlier movies, especially "Philadelphia Story." It is so shamelessly snobby, but ballsy of her, which makes it hilarious at the same time.

Started the experience from when I asked if I could park across the street, she looked at me like she didn't know what a parking spot was and why I was even speaking (I was really polite). Then 45 minutes into our meeting, she barged in with a scowl to say that "because the bathroom was out of order, they needed to close by law." We said no one needed to use the bathroom but she said it was a legal issue. Previously she had asked that we be more quiet this meeting (our book club has met here before) and we were doing a good job. And keep in mind the only reason that these rooms exist is for meetings. We didn't have a problem with being asked to leave, that's in the library's right. However she handled it so poorly, treated us like trash, and lied straight to our face with way too much audacity. They all wanted to leave early and that's the only reason they did this. The only thing this could be classified as is bullying. Will not return and would not recommend to anyone human.

I was met with the most unprofessional treatment by one of the librarians here at Allentown Public Library. We have utilized this library a few times in the past for a couple book club meetings and we hardly ever get greeted with a smile or nod of acknowledgement when we arrive. We reserved their meeting room for our February meeting several months in advance and during our meeting last night, we were abruptly interrupted and told to leave the building within 5 minutes due to the bathrooms not working. We are a big book club so we needed a little more than 5 minutes to clean up and leave the room how we found it. Plus, a minute or so to figure out how and where to proceed with the meeting. The librarian came back less than 5 minutes later with a worse attitude than before telling us we had to leave now. We tried to politely explain that she abruptly interrupted us and expected a huge group to just quickly clean up and vacate the building, and it wasn't that possible but we were trying to. She mouthed back with a terrible attitude that she didn't care and we had to leave now. It sounds like this person doesn't work well under pressure, nor do they know how to use proper customer service skills. There may as well have been a fire with the urgent demands she was making. I'm really disappointed with the treatment she gave our book club, and upset too. We all have good intentions and many of us utilize the Monmouth county library system on a regular basis. None of us should have been spoken to that way. The whole staff should be embarrassed. Needless to say, we will not be using this library again. It is a shame because this location is pretty much the perfect midway point for our members, but we would rather utilize our community resources somewhere else where we can be treated respectfully like normal citizens.

There is a section for children to read and a section for groups. The staff is friendly greets you when you walks up to the counter. The hours are great since they say open until 8pm Monday thru Thursday. Since I've gone there the past couple of weeks, the one negative I've seen is they do not enforce a quiet environment that you are accustom in most libraries. Between some of the staff talking at normal tone (which is loud when you are in a library) and the staff not enforcing the patrons to not talk on their cell phones in the library. Overall this library is a nice place to go to and get some work done.
