I am in the middle of a custody battle and unfortunately am unable to afford an attorney. I have been utilizing free consultations with all of the local attorneys in order to learn as much about family law as possible before we go to trial. 7 minutes into my consultation with Attorney Borsberry he tried giving me fee quotes to which I apologized and informed him that I made it very clear to the receptionist that I do not have the financial capability to hire an attorney and was just wanting to utilize the free consultation. He got very dismissive and ended up hanging up on me at the 10 minute mark. Very rude and very unprofessional. Just because a single mother can't afford to hire an attorney doesn't mean she should be dismissed and not helped at all. If that's the case, don't do free consultations. read more

If you want sincerity and determined to win for you...dont hire this man. I should've know on my consultation what I was dealing with when I asked him what my payment options were as I have never hired an attorney. "We are not a bank." He told me that my wife could not take my daughter away and he would have rights for me with in 24 hours. When it was time to file, he told me to go into court house to submit for a order of protection on my daughters mother. That was denied. I had to hound him for information on details on how our case would go, length of time, next court dates etc. He gave me very vague answers and after asking ask me to let him do his job; when all I was doing was asking about my case and proceedings. He told me should have to pay half of bills and that he could get that enforced as she was not helping me with any of our bills. I had to sell some items and fall behind on payments on my mortgage and other bills due to this. He then made a mockery and joke of my situation saying that I was playing a game with my wife on who was going to pay bills. When all I was trying to do was stay afloat. Went to first court hearing and turns out my wife put a order of protection on me and Joe says that they tried to reach out to me. Later finding out this being an email with an attachment on things I dont understand and I overlooked. That order of protection was to take my cars and kick me out of my house with no visitation to my daughter( Shouldn't have been a phone call for a response before the court date? hahahhaha Then he argued with me that they did call me and they never did. In addition, my wifes attorney sat down with her and chatted polited. Joe came into court house looked at me and went to another client. Then after court hearing, my wifes attorney sat with her again. Joe didnt even come out to talk, he took another client in. Retainer fee of 2300 and end bill of an additional 500 for a few phone calls and one day at court. Turns out my wife has only paid 1200 so far and she was in regular contact with her attorney. Borsberry office will nickel and dime you to death. This guy is the epitome of an attorney you do not want to hire. read more

The previous year I was accused of a hit-n-run, and after many court appearances and two public defenders later, I found myself without any formal representation. My experience with Joe Borsberry was a very negative one. As a grandparent, I was trying to get visitation with my grandchild. He was like a child in court, and seemed like he was confused about my case in front of the judge. He did not appear assertive at all, while the opposing attorney, even though fairly new, stood up and spoke with a voice of authority to the judge on several occasions and got her point across. Many times when I spoke with him, he appeared detached and unconcerned. On court dates, he would rush in with only minutes to spare, except for one time. I found him to be arrogant and full of self-importance. He had paperwork we were supposed to go over together before our last court date, but it was filed without my ever seeing it. I saw the contents of it when he emailed it to me 2 hours before court. I was never so disappointed in someone as I was with him. I did file a complaint against him with the Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois and they did review my complaints and concluded that based upon my complaints they were not taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Borsberry. They did, however, tell me that my complaints were in the nature of a civil legal malpractice claim, and they do not handle complaints of that nature and I may wish to consult with another attorney concerning my legal alternatives, which I will not do because I cannot afford another attorney. I feel Joe dropped the ball when handling my case and let me and my grandchild down. read more
