Seriously, it's like driving down a long private driveway until you eventually stumble across some marked parking space and the you've found it! Give yourself a lot of extra time to wander on first visit. The space is massive and just keeps on going past multiple greenhouses and outdoor habitats. There are a bunch of random cool outbuildings and a gorgeous marsh area full of ferns and lillies We were extremely fortunate to show up during a lull time when it wasn't busy and got a tour of the property and tons of help selecting exactly the plants we came looking for to rehab property that we are reclaiming from blackberries, holly, and bluebells. This place is a magical fairyland, worth a visit just to wander! Beautiful labor of love. They do a lot of salvaging of plants, too, in addition to growing their own stock--meaning, they go and save plants in areas that are being developed/paved over/etc. They have also re-wilded the creek running thru their property!! HUGE selection of PNW natives. Most things aren't labeled, but I came prepared with my PlantNet app for ID'ing. Came on a hot summer Saturday and barely saw anyone. The place was too large for any staff to direction us towards specific plants I was looking for, but I still managed to meander and find 85% of my wants with the staff saying they may be out of the size of some items I was looking for. Extremely happy with my purchases! Got a few free stragglers in pots and happy to report that 30 days later all my milkweeds, oceanspray, salal, snowberry, woodland strawberry, monkey flower and more are all doing superb. read more

I have gotten really into landscaping with native plants lately, and I am working on my Backyard Habitat Certification. Because of that I've been meaning to go to Bosky Dell for a while now, especially since the BH program comes with a 10% discount to this nursery. Bosky Dell is huuuuuuge and such a great place to wander around to see examples of natives in their natural habitat. From a shady forest path to bee hives in a sunny meadow, this place is not only a nursery but an inspiration. I do suggest coming with a list of plants you're looking for, as the aisles and layout can feel naturally chaotic. It may also help to have reference images, as some of the plants were not labeled. You may also need to inquire about pricing rather than looking at a sticker. I got two pacific wax myrtles, two tall Oregon grapes, and a blue blossom California lilac, and am excited to get them into the ground before fall. Hopefully we get some clouds and rains because some plants (both in my yard and at the nursery) are looking a little sunburned! read more

On my first visit to Bosky Dell Natives just over a month ago, I stayed for over three hours taking it all in. (I've since gone back two more times). What a tucked away jewel of ONLY PNW NATIVES!! Shrubs, flowers, ground covers, ferns, trilliums and TREES- all tucked in and around creatively designed and built structures layered in artful, chippy architectural elements. I had seen photos before I went and knew they had native plants, but really nothing could prepare me for how over the top this place is. Definitely come prepared to wander. That's part of the charm of this place. You probably won't be going here to zip in and out to find your $3 zinnia, but you will be wandering around looking at all the landscaping and design gems in every nook and cranny or identifying the native hitchhiker who is hanging out in the meadowfoam pot and if you want to take it too. This nursery requires a different attitude and speed. However, I think coming here is extremely rewarding if you have a spare hour or two and treat it as a natural space where items happen to be available for purchase. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and willing to put the time in for consults as well. read more

When you plant native plants, they require less time, expense of chemical care, and water. They are already acclimated to our environment. Another perk of native plants, is you will see more native life in your garden, greater variations of butterflies, amphibians, and birds. Bosky Dell's plants are grown on property in their natural environment, with the greatest level of care. The grounds of the nursery are like taking a stroll through the forest neighboring a farm. Need Oregon native plants and willing to drive 20 minutes from Portland? Ready to be challenged and impressed? Bosky Dell Natives, in a very beautiful and peaceful rural setting, is just the place. I went with my gardening expert spouse who is has a Backyard Habitat Certified garden, which requires Oregon native, and more specifically, Portland native plants. She's an expert, which helped as she knew exactly what she was looking at. There are some labels, there are some prices, but this is not a Portland Nursery type of experience where every plant has a tag on it. The plants are in sections and greenhouses, so with a little orientation from the helpful staff, it is fairly easy to get around. That said, I can see where this could be a bit overwhelming for a non-expert like me. I would say this is a typical approach based on other rural nurseries that I've been to. read more

**PROS** You can find some of the hardest to find trees and plants here. I've seen trees here that no other nurseries in the area carry - from Pacific yews to pacific madrones to hairy manzanitas and so on. If you are buying trees for your yard, visit here first. Incredibly friendly staff that is happy to talk with you about your plant purchases. My first visit to Bosky Dell lasted hours because I had so many questions. Staff never looked annoyed and helped me find everything I wanted. It's the most beautiful nursery I've visited. It's huge and surrounded by forest with streams cutting through. It's fun to visit Bosky Dell, so even if you don't buy much, you don't feel like you wasted your time. The owner/operator does a lot of restoration projects throughout Oregon. I enjoy supporting good people! There are a LOT of plants here. Seriously, you will wonder why anyone buys non-native ornamentals when there are so many beautiful native plants. If you are buying a lot of plants, you can purchase a $1000 gift card and receive a something like 10-20% off all purchases. I can't quite remember the exact details, but definitely ask about it, especially if you just bought a house and have a lot planned. All plants are pesticide free! **CONS** Sometimes some of the smaller plants or perennials aren't in the greatest shape, but this is partially because the volume of plants at Bosky Dell. read more

I visited this place about a week ago with my grandma when I was visiting family in West Linn. I currently live in Sacramento and I am more familiar with California native plants than Oregon native plants. Since I want to learn more about Oregon native plants and I love gardening, I decided to check out this nursery. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately and got an introduction to the space. The staff were very knowledgeable about the different plants at the nursery. Throughout our visit, employees would check in with us to see if we had any questions. The owner of the nursery also introduced herself to me and told me about some of the unique features of the nursery. The people working here also really care about the environment and using native plants to enhance biodiversity. This site even contains a creek that was restored through the efforts of volunteers. On site are also many unique features, including artistic greenhouses and charming old buildings with antiques. There are many creative planting arrangements. As a landscape architecture student, I found this place very inspiring. I visited during winter time, but I definitely want to return in the spring time to see more plants in bloom! Even though it was winter, there was still a lot to see. I highly recommend visiting this nursery! read more

I am a seriously "repeat" customer and that's why I'm so incredibly upset about this. they have always had the reputation for being way overpriced. I faithfully shopped with them anyways. I purchased 3 identical plants and 1 started to turn black/crispy within 2 weeks. It was still in the same pot as I purchased it in, and received the exact same care as the other 2 that remained healthy. I called right away and spoke with the owner, who asked me to email her photos so that she could help diagnose the problem. I did that within an hour of talking to her, now it's been 5 days with no response from her. I even emailed her updated photos of the rotten roots within these 5 days, as well. Still, no response. So, I just called for the 2nd time and spoke w her about it again. She said she's "too busy to talk" with me right now. I asked her to just let me bring this plant in to exchange it for a healthy one. She said that once a plant leaves their shop, they can't guarantee anything, and that they do not replace plants. She suggested that I should just wait and see if it starts to grow again someday or purchase another. I told her AGAIN that I had only gotten it 2 weeks ago, and that every other nursery I know would be classy enough to exchange a sick plant - esp within such a short time frame. Not to mention, I have been attempting to discuss this with her for nearly 1 of the 2 total weeks that I had the plant! This experience has definitely been an incredible disappointment and even though I have shopped there (and knowingly overpaid to do so) for natives for almost 10 years -- I can't continue to give them my money after this situation. Beginning my Backyard Habitat Certification, Boskey Dell was listed as a resource so I took my ignorant self on a tour prepared to be humbled by any employee I met. What I found was a consultation with the owner who gave me more information than I ever expected and worked within my paltry budget. Just walking the grounds, looking at snags, nurse logs, rocks, the new chipmunk playground and all the garden antiques was worth the trip. The enthusiasm of all the staff is contagious. It is easy to get lost with all the possibilities! I am happy to say that a month later all my plants are still alive and I am ready for my silver certification inspection. I love this West Linn secret and it was not nearly as far away as I expected. Please go if only for the enjoyment of nature...and to see the chipmunk sliding and swinging:)! read more

Very special specific attitude toward plants, the focus is native and they deliver the goods. Test gardens are a great way to see what the plants your buying might look like in a few years time, it's a great way to keep from making that dreaded mistake, huge plant small space. It was such a cute seedling, now it's 40 feet tall and 20 feet wide. read more

This was an incredible experience over-all and I can't wait to be back. The nursery has an incredible selection of native trees, shrubs, and other plants of many sizes at excellent prices. However, a lot of the trees were scraggly (grown in shade at very high density) and not straight when supposed to (ie. typical Douglas firs and ponderosa pines). Additionally, a lot of potted trees were slumping over due to the mud or had fallen over entirely and were still growing but at improper angles. It looked as if the nursery staff don't attend to the trees much. I am willing to deal with all of this to get cheap native plants, though. I was able to find great trees by searching thoroughly. And the nursery itself was quite the spectacle itself, aesthetically diverse and earthly-feeling. I would recommend this place for native plants, although it can be overwhelming to the beginner gardener. read more

I was enchanted with this place. They do have so many things and it is obvious that a lot of love and creativity has gone into this place, making it both a nursery and a destination. Unfortunately, they have provided terrible customer service to me regarding a significant mistake that was their fault. I went there in the Spring looking for a specific native tree. Someone who worked there helped me pick it out and load it because most of the trees appeared to be unmarked. The tree was already in the ground over a month before it leafed out and became clear that it was the wrong tree and one that would not be a good fit for the location. I tried to contact them repeatedly via email and phone with no luck. When I finally got the owner on the phone she was dismissive, like she had already talked to me, but asked me to come out and pick out another tree and promised to set the situation right. After I picked out the tree, she asked me to send an email with possible dates to exchange the trees, which I did. That last communication was over 2 months ago. She never confirmed any of the dates and didn't follow up with a different plan once those dates had passed. She hasn't even done the minimum to respond to me and let me know she still plans to correct the issue. I have never experienced such terrible customer service at a local business or otherwise. I am especially disappointed because I am enthusiastic about native plants and was hoping this place would be a great resource for years to come, but now I just feel disregarded and with a significant tree problem that I still have to solve, apparently without their help. read more
