As with all the hot chocolate in this country, it was pretty tasty. The whipped cream comes on the site and was delectable. The carrot cake was also quite good; a little tough but had a nice citrus glaze on it. Far better than the overly-sweet cream cheese icing you often get. My friend had a traditional Dutch pancake and said it was very good, although I didn't try it (not a fan, myself, I've found). The seating is slightly awkward inside and the service was rather slow for being fairly empty. The waitress was very sweet though. I would come back here in the summer time to get outdoor seating and enjoy a cold drink, definitely a quaint spot on the canal with decent snack and desert food.

It can be a bit scary for little kids because of the theme and the witches all over the place. The Dutch pancakes are different from those of most other countries, they are big and flat, and can be either savory or sweet. At Hans & Grietje they're tasty, there is a special children's pancake with some candy and a little treat and for those with an allergy or intolerance they'll bake special ones. Dutch pancakes are a cross between a crepe and a type of pizza almost and can have all manner of toppings. We ordered a few savory ones to try and then a sweet one to split. Delicious! We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. He enjoyed the combination of baked salmon, greens and a béchamel sauce. I tried the vegetarian goat cheese and walnut with rucola, which was very good; although how you could mess up those ingredients is beyond my comprehensive capabilities. It all comes down to the actual pannekoek: the fat crêpe, which the Dutchies formed into their own version. It is the same size as the French one, but much fatter and made without baking soda as in the American pancakes, because it is colder in the Netherlands (and less interesting on a culinary create-your-own-food level). The pannekoek itself was fine, not over- or under-cooked, and a good tasting flour mix. There was ample free parking after you wind your way through a subdivision. Outside a wonderfully large play area for kids to enjoy themselves in the summer months. Recommend this restaurant to drive a bit out of your way.
