I would highly recommend Boston Tutoring Center (BTC), not merely because of their thorough preparation for standardized tests, but also for their tailored academic enhancement programs and school consultation. BTC provides parents the benchmarks, diagnostic tools, and customized programs to strengthen children's learning capability. We greatly appreciate Mrs. Yount's insightful knowledge and advice about the current landscape of high school applications. BTC's programs addressed my child's academic weaknesses and brought out his strengths. After an initial assessment, BTC offered us two types of help. The first part was weekly one-on-one tutoring, which focused on academic work, training my child to form good habits of learning as well as test-taking. The second part of the BTC program was a highly individualized consultation. Mrs. Yount had a comprehensive review with my child about many aspects of high school applications and patiently worked with him to improve his presentations. She provided advice to us, helping to narrow down the best-fit high schools. She also kindly accommodated our schedule changes. BTC has gone beyond helping my child to improve test-taking skills. It has delivered the best result we could have hoped for. Moreover, BTC helped my child to gain confidence and equipped him with the skills that he will need later for college applications. I do not recommend Anne Yount and Boston Tutoring Center. I wrote a very brief review years ago stating that I thought this service was an utter waste of time. Anne Yount responded by saying she fired me as a client, then she went on to personally attack me. (Anne worked with my son when he was in 8th or 9th grade. He thought her program was mindless busywork.) Several months after I wrote the review, I received the following message in response: Just a Note 9/9/2015 For your review of: Boston Tutoring Center Is your son fu/cking autistic you fu/cking bi/tch Do yourself a favor. Boston Tutoring Center does not have a magic wand to obtain the best ISEE scores for their student. To be fair, ISEE prep is the stressful period . In order to success, the students must have the desire to achieve their goal and commit their time to study. BTC had helped my children to get into their number 1 choice school. The monthly report from Ms. Anne helped me to understand the progress of my children. The pandemic has pushed all tutor sessions virtually. I did not feel very confident about this at first. Ms. Anne assured me that my son would do fine. Amazingly, after 10 months with Mr. D, my son took his first ISEE test. His test scores satisficed most selective schools. This allowed him to put ISEE aside and focus on the essays for applications. Besides, Mr. D was very flexible with his times so my sons did not have to miss their baseball championship games due to the time conflict. Thank you Mr. D! My daughter used BTC for ISEE prep during this past application cycle. Anne and her team were always very accommodating and provided excellent communication both to my 10 year old daughter, as well as us (the parents). Standardized testing isn't easy for most kids at any age, especially elementary school. But Anne's tutors did a fantastic job of tailoring the 1:1 sessions to my daughter's abilities, and, to the level required for the test. We were proud when my daughter received favorable admissions decisions from the two all-girls schools that she applied to. I met Ms Anne 5-6 weeks ago when she provided a placement test for my daughter. I agree she is very knowledge and informative. She reiterated how late we were in starting but i still wanted to improve my daughter's skills if possible. Within four weeks we had three different tutors, which was very frustrating. They did follow the same curriculum but for the costs they was very little continuity therefore it did not work for me. read more

This review is long overdue! We enrolled my son at the Boston Tutoring Center in November of 2018 in order help him to prepare him for the ISEE. From the very first meeting to the last tutoring session that my son had, it was so clear that he got so much more than test prep! Anne and her entire staff are so professional and organized and offer an extremely rigorous program that helps students prepare for the challenges of an exam as well helping them develop needed academic skills. Anne absolutely knows her business and her tutors are excellent. They expect a lot out of their students (our son regularly spent 3 + hours a week on tutoring homework in addition to his 2 hour weekly sessions). Our son spent a little over one year with his tutor and left a much more prepared and independent learner. My husband and I are both teachers and felt that our son's experience at the Boston Tutoring Center was incredible. When it comes to test prep and the process, Anne Yount's Boston Tutoring Center delvers results. I found no other place which is as professional and gets right to the point. The tutors have excellent backgrounds and work hard with their students. Anne clearly explains why you need to start test prep 9-12 months before the test vs. taking a 4 week crash course. Our daughter prepared 11 months for the ISEE exam and hit the ball out of the park. She got into all the private schools she applied as well as Boston Latin. In the end Ms. Anne delivers! Boston Tutoring Center (BTC) is the best tutoring school. I can not express enough the positive impact of this place on my children. When my daughter, who is currently a tenth grader at Boston Latin School, prepared for the ISEE in 2011, I was very lucky to find BTC. My goal was to have my daughter improve her grades at school and be well prepared for the ISEE so that she would have a good chance at one of the exam schools in Boston. I went from making my daughter's father (who was a grade school teacher at the time) tutor her twice a week at home to eventually calling multiple tutoring centers, libraries and retired teachers. Needless to say, when I met Ms. Anne, founder of BTC, I was amazed by her professionalism and knowledge. Not just about the Boston Public School system and its exam schools, but also many other private schools in Massachusetts. After speaking with Ms. Anne, I remember feeling like I was given a light that helped me see so much more about different schools and therefore was more clear about what I should do for my daughter to have a better chance in education. During our first meeting with Ms. Anne, she had my daughter take a placement test. She answered all of my questions and took notes on the goals I had for my daughter. After the placement test, Ms Anne sat down with my daughter and talked with her. She then let me know her assessment of my daughter's academic level and quite frankly, she was very caring but very honest. So be prepared to hear the truth from Ms. Anne about your child. She will not sugar coat anything so that people will stay to do business with her. What makes BTC the best tutoring school is not just the qualified teachers but also Ms. Anne's ability to identify each child's weaknesses and strengths and with his/her goal in mind she then gives appropriate recommendations so that he/she was able to learn and excel. My daughter was a B+ (with some A-) student and changed into an A and A+ student after 7-8 weeks at BTC. One of my girlfriends then knew this positive change, so she withdrew her 2 daughters from another tutoring center to BTC. Sure enough, both of her daughters replaced 2s to 4s and a few 3s on their report cards. It was beautiful to see their self-esteem and confidence boost significantly. After my daughter, I also sent my second child to BTC for ISEE prep. Because of Ms. Anne's encouragement and insight, we applied for the Roxbury Latin School and now my son is a very happy RL student. We are forever grateful for Ms. Anne. Today, I am going to call Ms. Anne for my youngest child. I felt an urge to write this candid review because for the past 5 years it has proven to be the best tutoring school around. Not only my children but my nephews, niece, girlfriends' daughters, sons and exchange students ranging from 3rd grade to high school also received assistance from BTC for ISEE, SAT or just weekly homework help. They are all very happy with this great tutoring school. Wow, the owner is the rudest person I have ever met. Buyer beware. She is condescending and unprofessional. When I called to complain when she gave up our tutoring spot, she told me she doesn't "do temper tantrums" and hung up on me. The tutoring is so-so and Anne is clearly all about the money. Customer service is not in her vocabulary. Do your child a favor and look for a more professional learning environment. read more
