Mr. Hodes (President) lacks knowledge and experience in how to appropriately interact with families from other backgrounds, other than his own (white). In 10th grade, my son got into a physical altercation with another child. This was an isolated incident. I do not instill violence in my children. There was a "zero tolerance" policy in place. So they suspended him and naturally I was enraged by their inability to be open to another approach/ perspective. I emailed and met in person about my concerns. I researched and provided reputable resources to support my concerns. Additionally, my son has always struggled academically, due to being formally diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia. He just had a most recent psychological testing by my district that further supported key components that should have urged them to reevaluate their policy. After all that time, energy and effort, it amounted to nothing. Instead, Mr Hodes personalized my advocacy and embraced his ego and privilege of being a white! How typical! Later that same year, I came across him at my sons basketball game. He looked me right in my face with disgust and couldn't maintain his professionalism, especially given his title. He is a non entity, so I found humor in it and was satisfied seeing him for who he really is. Then Mariann Hogan was my son's guidance counselor! What a joke! I have my MSW and basic skills to create a healthy experience under the scope of a guidance counselor was not present. Each year, a new academic support plan was to be developed. I was only able to get two plans out of four years (freshman and sophomore year). Half the time the teachers didn't adhere to the whole purpose of the academic plan. The worst of it all is senior year, during the most critical time of the college application process, she takes three weeks off. There was no one to take her place so my son had the crucial support he needed. This was an extremely stressful time, which should make sense to the average school personnel. To no surprise, my son backed out of the idea of college. Mrs Hogan sent a very strong message with her careless absence and lack to interpersonal skills to have built an appropriate relationship with my son. The whole school needs to get revamped and embrace Critical Race Theory. Culturally, so lost!

The school boasts an amazing gym, and all the kids got Ipads this summer, so less books to buy and lug around. The tuition is fair, and the focus on the children unsurpassed. My son struggles with some social emotional skills in especially new environments and as a first-time parent I am still learning and navigating my new life as a mother. However, I feel that Latoya could've done a better job as a director in immediately providing me with strategics and possible solutions on the situation rather than making me feel like a failure as a parent. Not even a hour after dropping of my son, I received a rushed call to pick my son up. When I got there, I had asked Latoya if I could speak to her privately about my son to which she stated he had to be present. I disagreed because it is inappropriate and unprofessional and yet she still protested against my request until she finally gave in. Once we were in a private room, her attitude and demeanor changed to a judgmental, insensitive and unprofessional woman. I felt belittled and disrespected on so many levels because I feel like if she had a calmer, collected, empathic and understanding first initial approach with me things wouldn't have escalated the way it did. She raised her voice on multiple occasions and even raised her finger to point at me which I found offensive. She falsely accused me of justifying my son's behavior without understanding that he may have mental health disorder that prevent him from expressing his words correctly to strangers he does not yet know well . She failed to comprehend that as a mother I am my sons biggest and only advocate and was trying to understand what was going on. My encounter with her has been the worse experience ever. I am quite shocked myself because everything was so good and smooth in the beginning. Overall, I feel like the situation could've been handled better by expressing empathy, patience and professionalism with a calm and collected tone of voice. In the end, you have to be sensitive and gentle with people because you don't really know what's going on in their lives and it's not okay to belittle others. I wish she would've provided alternative solutions and other options rather than guilt tripping me. When I emailed her stating I was leaving a negative review, she quickly stated she had all this information and informative resources that will better assist me on my situation. However, I've been waiting ever since, and she continues to neglect the matter. Luckily, I found a backup plan and have a strong support system and all the resources I need. The learning Experience definitely lacks well trained staff members and could benefit more with additional training and a stronger resourceful leader who isn't riding a high horse.

Sephora was the one who sold my partner and I (and my mother!) on OFLC and we were hesitant because (as all childcare in Boston) it was pricey but we decided that our peace of mind knowing our daughter was being well-cared for was worth every single penny. Dropping her off was hard as with every parent who has ever had to do it, but Sephora personally checked in on her three or four times during that first day and personally made sure she was okay. Our daughter had a hard time with the transition and made plenty of pouty faces at her dad and myself when we dropped her off but she now LOVES it. She is so happy and calm at drop-off. We place our daughter twice a week and when one of our scheduled days falls on a holiday, we can easily place her another day that week so we always get care for the paid amount. Her teacher, Miss Desiree is AMAZING! This teacher goes above and beyond for our daughter. EVERY TIME I come in and she sees I may be nervous about something, she asks me about it, notes my concern, tells me everything will be fine, then writes me personal messages about the baby's progress during the day. It is amazing! The baby loves her. I really can't say enough great things about her. AND about the center. They have even gotten her to NAP! I am convinced that Miss Desiree is a witch with magical baby powers. Leslie, the classroom aide is also so AMAZING and nurturing towards Reese. I can tell my daughter enjoys it when she is around and interacting with her, and she is so kind and warm and welcoming. Since starting, Reese is reaching and exceeding all of her developmental milestones. Her pediatrician is thrilled with how alert and active she is and I know that part of that is attributed to the way the center stimulates her. One of our most important requirements for our chosen care was that they require all staff and children to be vaccinated. Our Future Learning Center-Allston requires that all staff and students be up to date with their vaccines and it really gives us peace of mind to know that when she comes home feeling under the weather, it is nothing a little rest and snuggles won't fix, which is so important given the recent outbreak of measles in this country as of recently. The center is secure and locked down. Only registered family/friends can pick up your child, and you can only access the building by fingerprint registration. They also use their own app (Remini) to send us photo updates on our daughter throughout the day! I could write for days. Parents, sending your children to daycare is SO HARD! I know. But schedule a tour and I PROMISE you, you will see what we saw and now know to be true about this center. One of the best decisions I have made for my baby since her birth. Don't believe me? We first spoke to Julie out if the Marlboro location and in comparison to many other local daycares, her kindness and professionalism blew me away. She was knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions. She offered to set up a time for me to visit the Allston location where we will be sending our son, but I declined because I needed time to figure out when would be good. There was absolutely no attempt to hide the cost of the program, which was awesome because so many schools want to meet with you before they give you tuition cost. I met with Sephora in Allston and she is amazing. She is warm, welcoming, kind, and she didn't rush us out or pressure us. I felt like I had known her forever. I immediately fell in love with the space, which includes beautiful classrooms, a nice playground fenced in outside and a huge gym area. The place was clean and beautiful and during nap time, so peaceful. The teachers were so kind, smiling, not a single child upset, not even in the infant room. On our first day today, my son was ecstatic. It was his first day of school EVER and he has only been watched by family members and very rarely. He was so happy and he was following along with the other children eating breakfast and lunch. I couldn't be happier. And the school was so accommodating, in more ways than I can explain. They didn't even attempt to rush us out or anything when we first arrived. We stuck around to make sure he was ok and they didn't seem to mind at all. Even the parents were stopping to introduce themselves and tell us how awesome the school was. It's like a little community. On our way out we met the owner, Lee, who immediately recognized a new face and asked if this was Ben (my son). He wasn't in a rush at all and took the time to chat with us and ask us how things were going and how we felt so far. I imagine with three locations he is a pretty busy guy, but he clearly cares about his school as well as the staff and families. I know it's only the first day, but so far I am amazed and I recommend that others consider looking into this school. It is one of the most affordable schools in the area and they have a flexible schedule and offer fresh meals and snacks, included in tuition. I've been through this before as I have two girls who are 8, and while I feel I lucked out with great schools in the past, this one seems really special.

We toured a lot of daycares in the vicinity, and Odyssey was the cleanest and best managed. We were impressed with their separate infant room, where my daughter started when she was 12 weeks old. We especially like the pedagogical approach--the school seems to focus on emotional and social development and not just rote memorization (memorizing letters). Now with the pandemic, Odyssey's protocols and precautions have been impressive. We at first considered keeping our daughter home to minimize risk (not possible if you need to get work done, it turns out), and even considered transitioning to an at-home daycare, but ultimately we stayed with Odyssey because they are such a well run operation that we really trust that they're following the best practices. Most importantly, my daughter loves going to school each morning!

The teachers are always so positive, patient, and kind, and they genuinely care about the children in their care. Every day for the last three years, they have greeted our son with a smile in the morning when we drop him off. The teachers make every effort to make every day special and exciting. The use of the BrightWheel app keeps us connected to what our son is doing while he is at Odyssey. It's great to see pictures of him having fun with his friends during the day. As a working parent, it's a relief to know your child is loved and cared for during the day when you're not together. Odyssey's program strikes a nice balance between educational activities and letting kids be kids. We're confident our son is ready for Kindergarten as a result of his time at Odyssey, but he has also had a ton a fun there and made many friends. We also sent our son when Odyssey reopened after the COVID-19 shutdown, and we felt comfortable doing so because of the care and effort the team at Odyssey put into planning their reopening. I would never believe a five-year-old would willingly wear a face mask, but somehow, they made it happen. I can't speak highly enough of Ms. Amanda and her staff, and we'll miss Odyssey when our son heads off to school.
