The baked goods and sandwich board looked promising and the staff were very nice, so we returned the next morning on the way back to the mountain. I am very glad that we did! The donuts and baked goods at WSMD are homemade and enticing, but we passed them by for the breakfast sandwiches, which are freshly made to order. I also ordered a lunch sandwich for later in the day. The breakfast sandwiches were hands-down the best we've every eaten: freshly cracked eggs broken and over-easy, with local Vermont cheese on freshly homemade english muffin, and a few dashes of Tabasco (my addition). Wow. My lunch sandwich was also delicious, with firm home-made bread and nice helpings of very fresh ingredients. Very satisfying. Locals don't need a tip to enjoy this Newport gem, tourists enjoying the Northeast Kingdom - take heed!

Its a tiny, hole-in-the-wall market with an equally tiny deli. We each ordered sandwiches. They came panini-style, which was a bit disconcerting. Two flattened sandwiches. But our first bites made believers out of us! WOW! So delicious! Now we are major fans. Don't judge this book by it's cover!

If I'm going to be anywhere near the Eastern Townships, I detour to La Rumeur. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They know everything about the products they sell, and they go above and beyond to be helpful. It's also really cute! The whole space has a country store look and feel. You get the sense that you are in a family store (even if it probably isn't) where everyone takes pride in what they sell. If you are near either one of their two locations, don't miss the opportunity to grab a cookie!

They have a lot of cheese from Quebec, France and the Netherlands. In fact they have a lot from all over Europe as well. You can ask for a sample before you buy the cheese. With the cost of some of these cheeses, that only makes sense. We picked up some Quebec cheese this trip but on past trips we bought Dutch cheese. The bakery side has good food as well. We have tried their breads and croissants and would definitely buy them again. There is a case full of pies, tartes, and cakes for sale and we are tempted to bring one home. They always have someone working who is fluent in English if your French is not good.

The restaurant didn't provide a high chair for our baby, which was a bit disappointing. The service was good with our waitress checking with us to order and being prompt and attentive. Here is what we ordered: Grilled Cheese O+G (8/10) - the bread with the grilled cheese and caramelized onions were cooked well. The homemade ketchup had a sweet taste to it and was brought out a little colder than room temperature. I probably would have preferred the ketchup/tomato sauce to be a bit warmer. The Chicken Melt (8/10) - this sandwich was pretty big. It had grilled chicken in a creamy sauce, some Cole slaw (actually a lot of Cole slaw) and some dill pickles. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat and I think it had a little too much Cole slaw, but it was a good sandwich, nonetheless. Overall, I good experience with a few suggestions in my review that I think would have made it really great.
