We did get some pain au chocolat which were very good, but the croissants were amazing. Out of this world. Almost melt in your mouth. So we run down to lavarenne and make coffee in our rented apartment. Tomorrow we may top it with some local jam we found today. Every morning there is a market right outside of the shop, and it is so quintessential French. It's amazing. Tomorrow we're going for a drive in the country and plan on picking up tons of croissants and a whole baguette, slathering them all in butter (as if they needed any more butter) and maybe jam and/or cheese. Best plan ever. Tldr: Get the croissants here!!

We have lived about 2 years in France, mostly in the South, and experienced dozens of good…read morebakeries, but this one is the best. You have to love the concept of reverse migration at work here, with the Québécois (old French) coming to France (new French) and showing the supposed experts at bread (the French) a thing or two about flour and yeast. The breads are a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. They might be more expensive but they are still a good value because they are more substantial. What passes for a restaurant baguette, their "l'Olympique" is more like two restaurant baguettes and lasts longer. Their "nuages" (a square form of boule, deeply crusted) served extremely well on the dinner table as well as for toast at breakfast. The variety of breads is impressive, at times exotic, and the several that we have tried maintain the same high quality. We only wish we had time to try them all! The boulangerie is located immediately next to the largest site for the market in Aix and should not be missed. Formidable!
