excellent dental care. problem is with their billing. Over 3 years ago they did a crown and accepted my insurance as full payment. 2 years later they started spamming me with texts seeking more payment. After many calls to their billing (most of which were unanswered). They finally apologized and said the issue was settled. Finally thought it was resolved, and then Yesterday I received a collection letter for the that crown! I no longer have that dental insurance so I cannot retrieve documentation of that transaction. I have not retained any correspondence thatthis was resolved If you use this dentist, make sure you retain records of all transactions for decades because they may seek more money. read more

It's unfortunate what has happened with Boulder Smile Design. Dr. Friedman and the hygienists are fine, but their billing office is mismanaged and is asking for money on something done 1-2 years ago. They couldn't explain their records to make sense of the situation. read more

To echo a recent review, I have also been part of this practice for over 20 years and in the past would recommend it highly to anyone that asked. Now their lack of basic office management, negative communication style and care of patients has changed and I believe they no longer have good intentions towards the day to day care of their patients. AND don't be misled by their communication, I have left 2 messages for Dr Friedman 1) for my son's dental emergency I heard NOTHING back. I was told by the manager we cannot be sure that this cavity was completed by Dr Friedman.... This is the only practice my son has been part of and he is now 20 years of age. 2) to check in on the experience my family was seeing, again I heard nothing back. I can no longer recommend this practice and urge you to find a more caring and respectful place for your family. Again pure fabrication. I NEVER refused to pay my bill and I threatened you!?!! Dr. Friedman is so kind and caring. He went out of his way to use an anesthetic that was safer for me, and he always took time to explain procedures & make sure I was comfortable during them. Everyone at his office is exceptionally caring. The front desk knew who I was when I walked in! That's amazing! Shout out to all the dental hygienists and assistants, too! My cleanings & x-rays here have been the most comfortable in my life, and that's saying something because I usually have trouble with them. If you need dental work & have other health conditions that affect your teeth or procedures (or if you just need dental work, period!), Dr. Friedman is awesome! Woah! Talk about a five star dental experience! My x rays were quick and easy with the digital x ray machine, and the massage chairs were a great touch. The dental hygienist had good bedside manner and was very understanding of my TMD. Doctor Friedman was approachable and knowledgeable; he addressed all my dental and cosmetic concerns, which many doctors have overlooked. He wasn't dismissive about my preference for non-fluoride based products and didn't push his views on the topic. Definitely a plus in boulder!!! read more

ONE STAR IS ONE TOO MANY So Dr. Friedman did some work on me through the "Donated Dental" Program. He extracted my lower canine tooth and during the brutal procedure he over dosed me on Marcaine, septocaine, and carbocaine. I have been examined by a specialist oral surgeon who determined that I have un repairable nerve damage and I have no to very limited feeling on my left side of my tongue and numbness and tingling of my left side of my face and lip. Plus this dentist left me disfigured by dropping me as a patient with out finishing the restoration part of the work he started. The extraction was so brutal that he broke an adjacent tooth and now that has to be removed and replaced. I'm hiring an attorney to seek damages against this dental practice for shoddy work! Dr. Sewell is one of the most competent dentists I've had. He came highly recommended and has lived up to expectations. He's very thorough in inspecting your teeth and finding problem areas, and he takes a proactive approach when it comes to recommending work that needs to be done. After all of my youth and teenage years spent treated at discount dentists (ahem, Comfort Dental) I found out Dr. Sewell took my insurance from a co-worker. I have been twice now, for a cleaning and exam, and could not be happier. Dr. Sewall is so kind, and spends a lot of time with each patient, not rushing to see the next one. My hygeinist was extremely kind also (Abby), and helped me discover what I was doing wrong. Let me start by saying that for my entire life I went to the same family dentist. 2 yearly checkups, Invisalign while I was in high school and college, and only 1 cavity when I was very young. When I got a new job and my own insurance, I went to visit Dr Sewell for a simple cleaning. After taking X-Rays and looking at my mouth for a grand total of 3 minutes, Dr Sewell announced that I had 5 cavities that all needed immediate fixing. 4 of the cavities were between teeth and would take some pretty extensive work, drilling out multiple teeth. I very taken aback and decided to get a second opinion from my original dentist. First it took about 4 tries to get copies of the X-Rays from Sewell's office. First they sent only 2 of the 4, then sent nothing at all, then sent the same 2, and then FINALLY they sent all 4. I took the X-Rays to my original dentist who told me that I was perfectly fine. One area between my teeth was slightly discolored, but he grabbed one of his other patient X-Rays that showed an actual cavity between teeth and explained the difference to me. My original dentist explained that Dr Sewell would have caused far more damage to my teeth fixing these supposed cavities than the cavities themselves caused. I called and cancelled all future appointments with Sewell's office that day. Then I started getting calls. Sewell's office wanted to know when I was coming in to get my "cavities" fixed. They went so far as to get approval from my insurance company for the almost $3,000 procedure, $1,500 of which would have been out of pocket. I politely declined and clearly explained the situation and kindly requested never to be contacted again. Then Dr Sewell himself called saying that he was very concerned and was absolutely certain there were image quality problems. Keep in mind these are the exact same digital X-Rays he used when he diagnosed my "cavities". For the sake of your teeth and your wallet, steer clear from Dr Sewell and his supposed family practice. The only thing that matters to them is their bottom line, not your teeth or your health. read more

One and done for me. I had a specific tooth problem and went to this dentist. I had a very painful and sickening experience. The stuff they use to make molds is the most toxic, nauseating substance I have ever tasted. The dentist gave me so much novocane that one side of my face went numb - up to and including my eye. It kept getting worse as I was driving home from my appointment. My face was more numb than the area of my mouth with the tooth he worked on. I agree this dentist and the person who worked with me were very *nice*. When I was waiting for my apt though, there was a billing person yelling at a client on the phone - not super loud - but very not nice. She was telling the person on the phone that she didn't have time to help them and they needed to call back when she wasn't so busy - but she didn't give them a time to do that. I don't know the demeanor of the client on the phone, but this should have been corrected ASAP - it was RUDER than rude. Then it turns out I wrote a check to this dentist and for some reason it was cashed for higher than the amount that I wrote it for. Hmm. I am suspicious of their billing person's capability. I have NEVER had a check cashed for more - about 25% more in this case - than I wrote it for. But because my experience was pretty awful (although I will say my tooth is better) - I would not be back regardless of the lack of professionalism by some support staff. Above all - don't takes kids here - it is toxic, lots of gagging because of big stuff in your mouth, and painful. read more

The wait time was excessive. Ever before showing up for my appointment, I asked the office manager to have my dental visit preapproved by my dental insurance company. She told me everything was fine until after my routine cleaning and exam. I then got a bill for $251 for a simple cleaning and exam and the office manager stated that my insurance was never checked and that I would be responsible for the entire bill. I called them to try to work something out as they had misled me. However, the office manager hung up on me and sent my bill for collections hurting my previously excellent credit score. I had call Dr. Friedman to try to settle this issue, but never got a response. $251 for a routine 6 month cleaning and exam and then hostility from the office manager when trying to settle this after she promised me I wouldn't have to pay anything out of pocket and simply sending my bill to a collection agency. Really??? This is Boulder where people are supposed to act civil. Not only was I not impressed by his skills, but his office was horrific. With so many options to choose from in Boulder, I'd steer clear of Sewell family dentistry and Dentist Jesse Friedman. read more

This was my office for about 12 years while I lived in Boulder. I went there while it was still Dr. Baxt and Dr. Sewell's office, and then continued to go after Dr. Sewell moved to the new location on Valmont. Always a convenient, easy experience, and the staff was always really really nice! I appreciated the appointment reminders by text, and Dr. Sewell kept track of care/services that I should take care of in order to stay on top of preventive care. This was helpful to me, because even though I was not always able to move ahead with his recommendations right away, I was able to take care of one of the bigger items further down the line once I had better dental coverage. I have been able to keep my teeth in better condition for that reason. I have now left Boulder, but I would recommend his office to others. It is a very clean space with nice music, friendly staff, a nice waiting room, and great views of the Flatirons. read more

I have had trouble with dentists my entire life. I am definitely a dental phobe and very resistant to going in to see the dentist. I have been so impressed with Dr. Sewell and his entire staff. He does great dental work. I never felt any pain, he talked me through the entire procedure every time I have gone in, and he even calls to check up on me the next day. I appreciate his honesty over treatment needed. He has been great about alerting me to my dental needs, explaining reasons for treatment, and giving me a heads up so I can plan for it financially. In the past I have had extensive dental work done by dentists that did not do a good job. A lot of pain and expense for substandard care. This is the first dentist I have ever met that truly cares about me and my comfort. I would highly recommend him and have sent many of my friends to see him. Everyone I know that has gone is so pleased to finally find an office that is honest, caring, professional, and kind. I will always be nervous going to the dentist, but this is the best that it gets! read more
