Visited boulders climbing gym yesterday with friends to try rock climbing for my first time. The staff were super friendly and helpful with guiding me through the different levels and general questions. I was impressed with the selection of different rock walls that Boulders had. The different levels were color coded and it was very straightforward to learn for a first timer. The guests were all super friendly as well and everyone seemed to be having a great time. A guest pass is $25 which includes chalk and climbing shoes to rent. If I do go bouldering again, will definitely revisit!

The service was great! The place was clean and the employees were nice! The place is specifically for bouldering and it's bigger than the pictures make it seem.

Chalk is provided as well, though I believe there is a fee for them - not sure on that so you'd want to call ahead if you are wondering.

Climb is a bouldering gym that caters to all skill levels. Bouldering was on my bucket list and since we had the day free, we made the brief 20 minute commute to the facility. Once there street parking was easy to find. Arriving on a weekday allowed us to have the gym to ourselves. The lady at the front desk checked us in, we signed waiver forms and got fitted for bouldering shoes. The changing area, locker room and gym are downstairs. The gym is a 2 story space that has colored coded bouldering routes a.k.a. "problems" to solve. The beginner level routes were labeled green and since my husband and I had zero bouldering experience, going green was the way to go. The lady who checked us in, I forgot her name but we got to chatting and learned she was a former Naperville, IL resident, was super helpful. She got us started on our first problem and gave us quick and useful techniques as we were maneuvering through. We did a total of 3 problems each and had fun going through them. Bouldering takes dedication, strategy, physical strength and dexterity. It is definitely a total body workout which left both hubby and I sore afterwards using muscles we don't normally use day to day. Regardless it was worth the experience. We got a good workout, had lots of fun and found an indoor activity we could see ourselves doing in the future.

A…read moremembership at FA allows entry to any of the Chicago locations, which gives access to different setting styles and a variety of boulder/top rope routes. The Arlington Heights locations is one of two (soon to be three) that has top rope routes. If you don't have a belay partner, there are a good number of autobelay routes! Depending on the time, the walls can get a little crowded and there always seems to be youth teams and classes going on. For early risers, they have been holding member only hours on Saturdays from 8-10am. In addition to the walls, there's an extensive weights and cardio area, as well as yoga, HIIT, and Pilates classes. Also, they plan various community building activities, including meetups, craft nights, member appreciation nights, injury prevention workshops, and more! For me, First Ascent provides a well-rounded and fun exercise routine with a great community!

Staff are extremely helpful even in the midst of super busy seasons (like winter holidays when kids are out of school). I really appreciate how you can get a set of free equipment rentals with a membership, especially since I had to rent a pregnancy harness a few times. There's everything you need to top rope, boulder, or lead. For top rope and lead, make sure you go through the proper certifications and/or classes through the gym. As this gym is in the suburbs, the size of the parking lot is generous as well. Even during peak times, there's usually a spot available. I love that they have a little compost and community garden out front as well. The locker rooms are equipped with plenty of lockable storage, showers, and bathrooms. They also provide towels should you forget! There are yoga studios to the side with plenty of opportunities for classes --just check the calendar they update. It's an excellent facility for all ages. Honestly, some of the youngest lead climbers I've seen have been at this gym. It's really cool to see how supportive this place is for the community.
