This was my first summer dealing with a kid out of school. I'm so fortunate to find that Bounty Books offers events for kids and the Minecraft event was perfect for my soon to be first grader. She and my younger daughter had a blast with the little games that they participated in and they even had a craft table with snacks. They have a variety of books for the avid reader and more than enough kids books that both my kids were super engaged in reading. The prices are beyond fair and the used books are in good quality. The ladies working were so friendly and genuinely thrilled to see the kids enjoying themselves with the scavenger hunt. We walked away with five books, a diy Minecraft sword and sheep. Quaint little bookstore with an abundance of books to choose from!! Talk about a hidden gem! I'm frankly jealous of people who live any closer to Bounty books because if it was even just a little less out of my way I would go weekly. i visited for the first time just recently when I was spending some time in Vacaville and I was totally blown away. Anybody that keeps up with my bookstore reviews knows how much I like science fiction and let me tell you - I have yet to see a larger science fiction section in any used bookstore I've ever visited. I was able to find multiple books I've had on my reading-list and even got one that I wasn't familiar with - all of which I purchased at a ridiculously reasonable price. The staff too was extremely friendly and the woman who rung me up complimented by bangs, so needless to say I will be back. And the sooner the better! read more

This is one of Vacaville's best hidden gems! I love this place and so does my child. She reads A TON so the low prices on used books is nice and they have a great selection. I have never brought books back because we have a free little library on our property that we put them in after she reads them, however I like how it is an option to be able to bring back the books and get credit to go towards new ones. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. We came in one day close to closing and got caught up making selections and were still shopping at closing time. The lady working kindly told us that they were closed but that she had some things to deal with anyhow so we could finish making our selections. Thought that was really kind as well. read more

I understand that they have a large quantity of books. What I didn't understand was how unorganized and crowded the layout was. There is no inventory or tracking of what is in the store. Nor were there new books for anything we tried to find. All were in various states of used. I also didn't understand how the trade in or credit system worked. Just not what I expected when I'm used to an experience more closely related to a library or Barnes and Noble type establishment. The staff was very nice and tried to help us greatly. This was a sweet hidden gem to find in the city of Vacaville. My first visit there I found a fantasy book series at a decent price which I was excited to read! Staff was friendly and sociable. They explained the book "trade-in" credit policy with me. The store was divided into genres of books which made searching for what I wanted a breeze. My only complaint is that when I turned in some books to receive trade credit (or a discounted price on books), and I filled out the log book with my information, I never heard back. It's been about a month since my visit, which I find to be an exceptionally long time to wait for a response. I honestly feel a little ripped off, as I'm pretty sure they could have made good profit off of the manga I dropped off. So much for trade credit . read more

The red haired middle aged woman that works here must hate her job, because thats how she acted the whole time me and my sister were there. I called before Thanksgiving and asked if they carried any new Christmas themed books for kids. The lady on the phone told me they did and would have a whole display set up but not until after Thanksgiving and to come anytime after that. And even if they didnt have it set up, there was already some books in the back that someone could help me out with. Great. I came the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I looked around for a bit but didnt see any Christmas books. I asked the red haired woman if they had any Christmas themed books for kids. In a very annoyed voice she told me that the kids books were in the back and waved her hand that way. I asked if there was Christmas books. She told me they have some but she didnt know if they were out yet. And whatever is there is there. Hmmm not exactly the customer service I was hoping for. I go to the back, look through the childrens section and give up. I couldnt find any Christmas kids books. My sister however found a couple of books she wanted so we went to the front to the pay for them. As my sister is paying for the books. The red haired woman is complaining the whole time to her how she wants to go home. She even says "Seriously I want to go home. I have food waiting for me there. Im hungry. Im ready to go home". I was really upset that I made a specific trip to come shop at this bookstore. Just to be met by an unfriendly and unhelpful employee that only wants to complain about not wanting to be at her job. If you dont want to be there, then dont be there. Customers dont want to hear you complaining. I will not go back. read more

Service: There's usually only one person working, sometimes two, so service is pretty slow. The usual workers are nice, little old ladies so it's not like they're going to be super energized and jumping from shelf to shelf. Organization: There's not really an organization to this store. Used books are usually together and in the front area, the new books and what is more popular with teens are in the back. You kinda have to dig if you want something specific and "not popular." What's nice is that if they can't find the book you want, they'll order it for you to pick up later on! :) Buy local: I started going here when I took my AP/XL english classes that required readings that weren't in the textbook. Bounty Books gets the order forms from the teachers and bulk orders the books we need (Like: Fahrenheit 451, Shakespeare, etc.). I really do want there to be a lot of activity/customers to be sent here. It honestly is a cute bookstore owned by a local woman trying to spread her love of books. The prices are very competitive and fair. Location: It's not in the nicest part of town, but it adds character to the store. read more

This is a terrific little store. It's mostly used books with some new, along with assorted small gifts like journals and incense. They have a large selection of young adult, children's and even small children's books. Tracy, the lady running the store the day I visited, was knowledgeable and helpful. There is a customer appreciation card so that you get discounts the more that you buy there. You can also sell your used books there. It is organized and very clean. My Favorite book store. When I would visit my grandma during summers as a teen we often spent time here. I moved back to Vacaville as an adult and fell in love with Bounty books all over again. If it wasn't for covid and if I didn't have a small child I would probably spend hours here. They have a huge variety of books. I love that they sometimes have multiple of the same book because I prefer certain covers on my book shelf at home. I also like to read with someone and it's nice for them to have their own copy. I have found books here that I couldn't even find online. One book I spent a couple years looking for and could only find one off eBay for $25+ because it's no longer in print. Found it here for $2-4. Staff is always very helpful without being overbearing which I like because I enjoy my quite time to look around. I like that I can ask for a book even some thing random and 10 out of 10 times they walk me right to it without hesitation. Very helpful! Anyways. Love this place. read more

I was really excited to learn that there was a used bookstore near Fairfield. I'm not familiar with Vacaville, but it was really easy to access the store. They have a ton of books, and the cashiers were friendly and knowledgeable. They have a yellow card that keeps track of your purchases (after 100 dollars spent, you get 10 bucks off your next purchase). They also have a wish list you can sign up on. If they don't have what you are looking for, you sign up on the list with the books you want, and if they come into the store (via trade or whatever), you have first pick. AWESOME! After going to Half-Priced books in Berkeley and Concord, I have become a little spoiled, but this place was pretty nice. The prices aren't to die for, but they are pretty reasonable. Used books are cheap, new books are 10% off the list price. I'll be back again soon! read more

This is a great bookstore. It's located on the end of a little strip mall but don't let the small front fool you! The owner has thousands of books for you to peruse and debate how much money you actually want to spend! BB works with local reading groups and has books on hand for at least six different groups PLUS additional books for high school students who wish to purchase personal copies of books in their academic curriculum. There is a nice children's section but I prefer the audio books (CD) and the literary classic section. Everything is alphabetized and easy to find. BB also accepts books for donation and gives an individual credit kept on file ($$$) behind the counter. If you have a credit you are allowed to put up to half of your credit to a purchase at one time. I emailed to check on the status of two books I needed for a class I am taking. One book was in stock but the other could be ordered and in stock in two days. The service is fast and friendly and BB is a great way to kill some time and spend some money! read more

The lady working there was not very friendly. Also, make sure your kids use the restroom before getting there. They are VERY strict in their no public. Restroom policy. Plenty of books. My problem is with the pricing. If a book has a price sticker on it, that clearly shows a book was previously sold for $3.50, why was I charged $8.50? Are they going off of book price and halving it; that's what it seems the other book my daughter just had to have was sold for. After 3 visits, I feel I can now give an accurate review of Bounty Books. Every time I've come here, I've been extremely happy with my experience. The store has a great selection of mass market paperbacks, trade paperbacks, hardcovers, collectibles and even a small selection of new books. You'll find anything from the current best-selling titles to obscure titles you've never even heard of before. They price their books half off the cover price if used and 10% off the cover price if new. They have a reward program for every $100 spent, you get a $10 credit to use toward used book purchases. I love selling back my books here, as I get a great deal on them--they give 20% of cover price as store credit. If you keep your books in good condition like I do, this is an awesome place to sell them back. You can use up to 50% of your store credit per transaction of used books, which brings the price of each book to 25% of cover price, if you use store credit. Since there is a high turnover of books going in and out of the store, you'll always find new books every visit. Also the gentleman who works up front, Sean, is extremely knowledgeable on books across a wide range of genres. He'll answer any of your bookish questions and is always open for a friendly conversation. I couldn't recommend this place more and is my go-to over chain bookstores. read more

I have been going to this book store for years. I read about 4 or 5 books a week so I am in there quite frequently. The staff is always helpful if I am looking for a new recommendation and if I am looking for something specific they will bend over backwards to find it. The prices on used books are reasonable and they are in a great location. Darlene the owner is fabulous she seems to know every book in the store. It's something you can't get at any of the franchise bookstores as often their clerks are not readers at all and just view it as a job. I brought some books In a few months ago to trade in and asked that if they did not want all/some of then to call me because I would like them back. I never received a call and when I called them they said that they would call me back. I finally went into the store to find out that they had donated my books. If would be nice if they wow follow some sort of guidelines when doing trade ins. I love this little book store! New and used books, and you can donate your old books for some store credit. If I remember right, you get half the cover price, and you can use it towards half your purchase. Every couple years I give them a few boxes of books. I like the idea of my books helping out a small business, instead of going to Goodwill. Great variety, and they usually know when new books are coming out, too.
