The new larger air conditioned Burke Street Bakery - perfect anytime!
    Paul O.

I've written a review about the original Bourke Street Bakery so this will be short and sweet. The products are the same, all delicious and not overly priced. Coffee is always so good here. Staff are efficient, friendly and ensure that your visit is a good one. The biggest plus for this shop is the size. Plenty of room to eat inside and out when compared to the tiny Bourke Street venue. The only gripe I have is that it is a bugger to try and get a park here. I have come numerous times but driven on as there were no parking spaces.

Bourke street bakery does not disappoint! Consistently good food both savoury and sweet, coffee always made with love. Savoury choices are the usually pies and sausage rolls. My favourite is the lamb harrisa and almond, and the pork and fennel $4.80. Other selections are pizza bread and some sandwiches, all made with their sourdough bread. Sweets are amazing and delicious! To many to rattle. They are a bakery of course, all their sour dough loaves are on the side and range from $4-$7 ish. Baked fresh daily and super yum.

Great coffee here (lovely short haired lady is always friendly and knows her coffee), the service of late seems to have the attitude of "What do you want !?" rather than "How may I help you?" The food selection is great, though i have been disappointed with the last few visits, some of the pastries looked and tasted stale and when I asked I was told they always get soggy.. Well I have been a big fan but the service and the quality leave me thinking twice.

Quiche, Chicken pie and lamb sausage roll

Been here a couple of times and have enjoyed their sausage rolls. In particular their lamb one. We had the chicken pie this time round and didn't quite enjoy it as we did the lamb. I think the shiitake mushrooms in the pie somewhat overpowered the flavor in the pie. We also had the quiche to try and was tasty and light. It was good that we had the quiche first and the sausage roll last of this trio, so that they all had a chance for us to enjoy their flavours at its best. Their sourdough is also worth buying and taking home for consumption. The busy-ness of this place can vouch for that! The customer service is also good. Unlike the original shop in Surry Hills where we didn't have a good experience and wouldn't go back there. Can't hold that against this 'branch' and rate it 4 stars for the food and the service.

You'd think a cute pastry shop dishing out dainty tarts would be a little lost in translation in downtown Alexandria. Think again. I used to work nearby and would regularly pop in for lunch. While the main drawcard was their addictive lamb, harissa and almond sausage rolls, I secretly returned to catch a glimpse of the many manly tradies casually munching down ginger brulee tartlets and rhubarb danishes for afternoon tea. The surrounding area is pretty much all industrial estates and building sites, while the café itself is situated alongside the heaving traffic and nine wheeler trucks that populate Gardeners Road. This second branch of the much loved original BSB in Surry Hills is quite the hit and is packed pretty much all day long - you'll be hard pressed to find a seat during the lunch rush if you arrive anytime after 12pm, so your best bet is to come mid-morning and grab a coffee and something to eat later in the day.

    Best pies ever had!

(This…read moreis an unnecessary third parenthesis, but I've never seen three enclosed parenthesis before, I thought I'd try it.))) The meeting was in the gallery because we knew someone who had access to it and in our formative years as a company we needed somewhere quiet to work, somewhere with coffee nearby and somewhere we could work undisturbed. This meeting would be perfect! 'Oh no!' Why did I say perfect? Sods law! The day of the meeting I woke up with a fever. A hot forehead dripping buckets of cold sweat. My nose like an upturned hose attached to a leaky tap; liquid continued to pour out and gravity only made it worse. I say nay to the idea of staying in bed and attend, but I do it on one condition, I have to get some delicious pastries for the team. I go to a place called Allan's Cake just up the road and see that they have a cabinet full of danish's and tarts. I make a selection and ask her if she could quarter them, (they have been accused of treason and this is the appropriate punishment, plus it makes them easier to share. (Convenient and taught a lesson)). I take these scrumptious sugary custard filled fruit and pastry snacks back to the team and they are so happy and delighted with their texture and taste that they don't even care that my appearing at the meeting has jeopardised everyone's health. They even let me go home early as I look, feel and am about to faint. A day of mixed emotion. Yes I was sick, but full of tasty pastry.

Don't get me wrong-this is good, standard cafe food, but a little pricey. This French/Lebanese…read morebakery and cafe is famous among locals for its breads, cakes, Aussie pies, quiches, sausage rolls and other pastries. I tried their famous Bakerman Bacon and Egg Roll and sure enough, it lived up to the hype-a gorgeous dollop of mayo and crunchy bacon snuggled in a crusty bun. But. What's up with the $8.50 price tag? At the end of the day it's just bread, bacon and eggs. I washed this down with a coffee (the Molinari brand) and it was ok if a little bland. One time I stopped for lunch and chose the spinach and ricotta quiche with a side salad ($9.50). It was exactly what I was after (I love cheese!) but it was on the small side-the salad almost took over the plate but it certainly wasn't the star. There was not enough dressing; the leaves were a little dry. There IS something about this place that keeps me coming back though. It has a really tranquil atmosphere and is a great alternative for breakfast or lunch if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of nearby King St in Newtown. There are also gluten-free menu options and free Wi-Fi. The cosy village square is great for kids to run around after school while you sip your latte and people watch. Just don't let the kids see the $6.50 fruit smoothies. Great ambience and service but costly food you could get pretty much anywhere.

Great coffee too and don't miss the wide selection of pastries inside. Friendly service and the owner makes everyone feel like a local! Oh and they have jazz trios play during the summer weekends.
