    Nice golden crust!
    Courtney L.

One of my food goals while in Sydney was to try a true Aussie meat pie...and with this being considered Sydney's original bakery, I came here for exactly that! All pies are A$8 which come in beef, chicken and vegetable varieties. I'd consider this a pretty reasonable price as they were about the size of a small Marie Callender's pot pie... a nice personal serving! They also have sausage rolls and pastries which looked tempting, but the four of us each ordered a pie for a small lunch after a morning in Barangaroo. There is no indoor seating, but we were lucky to snag one of the several outdoor tables. My BRISKET, WINE & VEGETABLE PIE was filled with chunks of tender beef in a brown gravy, with carrots and celery. The gravy was flavorful without being too salty, and I didn't really notice any undertones from the wine. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of crust, but I finished every bite of this one as it was baked to a perfect golden brown and served right out of the warmer. It was really delicious! Two of my family members got the classic MINCEMEAT PIE, which had a straightforward ground beef filling. This one was also scrumptious and savory. The four of us were satisfied with our pies which kept us full enough during our walk over to the Sydney Fish Market.

I know this is called a sausage roll but the texture reminds me of a meatloaf in a very light pastry. It was delicious but came out so piping hot we probably had to wait five minutes before eating it. Delicious worth a trip.

Long line but it goes very quickly. Got the beef red wine and vegetable pie with house made tomato sauce. Also got the pork and fennel sausage roll. Ermagad so good. The house made tomato sauce is so gooodd. No seating inside but there are a couple of seats outdoors.

Cute little bakery that packs a punch in terms of the variety they offer - food and drinks! We ended up getting a bunch of different pastries, but our favorite by far was the sausage rolls. We got both the beef and lamb, both had the perfect flakey crust and delicious meat inside.

We tried several meat pies during our stay in Sydney and Bourke Street Bakery was my favorite by far. We ordered their "Chunky Beef" and "Chicken Sweet Potato and Pea" ($8 each) along with a "Pork and Fennel Sausage Roll" ($7.50) and everything came out piping hot, fresh and delicious. The crust of the pies and sausage roll was flaky and crispy and the meat in all of the items were flavorful and tender. Definitely a must try if you're looking for a good meat pie! Service was quick and friendly and Bourke has a few outdoor tables and chairs for some casual outside dining.

Beef brisket, mushroom and red wine pie

This bakery was our favorite in Sydney. They served up coffees, pastries, meat pies and more for breakfast with both indoor and outdoor seating. As it was located next to Barangaroo Wharf, we opted to take our order to go and sit on the benches and watch both people and boats go by. While there was a line out the door when we arrived, the staff was quite efficient and quickly filled the orders. Their lamb sausage roll was one of the best we've eaten on this trip. It had a nice flaky roll and savory filling but tasted even better with the side of tomato sauce (thinner than ketchup), 25 cents extra. The unique design of the tomato packaging made it easy and mess free to squeeze out the right amount. The beef brisket, red wine and mushroom pie was also an excellent choice. It was a handful with lots of tender beef, mushrooms inside. The spinach and mushroom quiche rounded out our breakfast. Definitely one bakery that we will come back again and again on a future trip to Sydney.

Cute little bakery and busy during mid day for the business people wanting to come here for a quick coffee break. Got the two most recommended items : pork and fennel pastry and pistachio crème brûlée tart. Both were unique and delish in flavor. Workers seemed kinda of flustered when it got busy. Limited on outdoor seats

Walked down Bourke St and bought my favorite. I get it every time I walk by, except there's a bigger line. I love it!

Passed by and purchased it every time, still still a lot of people in line. This is my favorite. Recommended for everyone.

We are tourists visiting from California and stopped here walking by our first morning . The rolls and coffee were so good that we came here for breakfast our entire stay in Sydney (3 days). I wish we were staying long enough to buy one of the lovely loaves of bread.

BOURKE STREET!!! We ate half a dozen meat pies while on our trip to Sydney, and BS had far and away my favorite one. We rolled up around 2pm on the Queen's Birthday (a national holiday) and it was poppin' like you wouldn't believe with a line out the door--to be fair, all of Barangaroo was poppin' this day. The line moved very quickly, and we were able to snag a meat pie with beef brisket, mushroom, and red wine sauce. In other words, a combination that I've never turned down. You guys. This pie changed my life. The crust was buttery and flaky while still strong enough to support and contain the innards, and the winey briskety stew inside was everything I could've hoped for it to be. A good red wine taste without being overpowering, seasoned wonderfully without being too salty, and perfectly cooked tender brisket. I'm drooling again just thinking about it. If we hadn't had dinner reservations an hour later (yes, we did in fact need a pre-dinner snack), I would've happily gone back for second and thirds. Try this pie, you will absolutely not regret it. Fair warning: they are pretty limited on the number of tables they have, so it fills up quick when it's busy! Make sure you send someone to snag a spot, or you can always walk along the harbor and take in views with your warm steamy pie in hand.

Bourke street was one of the places recommended to me when I said I was coming to Sydney. It definitely stacked up to the recommendation. I had a beef meat pie and a chocolate cookie. I also had an orange juice and a chai latte with almond milk. The beef pie was very good - the dough was great and it was nice and hot. I think I would have preferred minced beef over the shredded way they had it though. The cookie was fabulous - it was chocolate but had cranberries or something in it which was unexpectedly delicious. The chai latte was really tasty and well made. Also it smelled delicious inside. I'd definitely return.

Bourke Street Bakery became part of my Sydney itinerary at the recommendation of several friends, and I'm glad they told me about it. I feel like everyone already knows how good this place is, but I'll say that the sausage roll still caught me by surpriseb with how tasty and filling it was! The crust was crisp and flaky, while the sausage was juicy and packed with flavor. I also really liked the flat white, one of the best I've had in Sydney so far. I can't wait to try some of their sweet options at another location!

Amazing food, great service. This is built in a great little courtyard with several other businesses. There was a 20 minute wait but it was definitely worth it!

I'm a foodie, NOT a shopper!…read more After walking around Sydney's CBD, we visited the famous Queen Victoria Building, a late 19th-century Romanesque Revival marketplace that is now a shopping mall filled with high-end boutiques and eateries. We crossed George Street to The Strand, where we were in search of the world-famous patisserie, Black Star Pastry. Although I don't use IG or FB, I heard about Black Star Pastry's Strawberry Watermelon Cake while reading an old New York Times article about this Australian patisserie, which declared this signature cake and most-requested cake as "The World's Most Instagrammed Cake." So, I made Black Star Pastry a destination during our pre-cruise stay in Sydney. We followed the directions posted on The Strand's directory to Black Star Pastry and ogled the artistically and attractively decorated cakes while zeroing in on the Strawberry Watermelon cake slices lined up next to the Raspberry Lychee and Mango Yuzu cake slices. Honestly, all of the cake slices looked lusciously delicious, but our taste buds were craving a refreshing slice of Strawberry Watermelon. We selected the cake slice, and the amicable countergirl neatly packaged it and asked if we needed eating utensils. Of course, we needed and wanted eating utensils as we dreamed about digging into the cake at their dining counter right away. My husband rushed me to finish taking photos, and he jabbed his fork into the tender yet juicy cake. Before I knew it, he unassembled the cake slice to reveal a fresh-cut slice of juicy, ripe, and sweet watermelon, light rose-scented cream, tender cake, and was topped with fragrant rose petals and fresh strawberries. He claimed it would be easier to eat because the cake slice was about 3" high and looked like it would've toppled when pierced from top to bottom. Yeah, it was HIS "thing" about eating this cake, I decided to take a bit of the top layer, then a small slice of the watermelon bottom layer together. It truly was refreshing, light, and not overly sugary. The lightness and flavors of this cake seemed like it might have been low-cal, but even if it wasn't, who cares when you're on vacation?!

There's all range in price $1.00 ~ $2.00, and I definitely prefer their versions to the ones found in other shops as these ones are less sweet and more generous with filing. Also, please be on the lookout for their pre-close specials, where they bag a few assorted items for a hugely discounted price in late afternoon around 5-6pm!
