The bridge crosses a creek that connects with the Cape Cod Bay, which corresponds with the tide. Speaking of tides, if it is low, you will smell the dirt. It's not that bad when you get use to it, but be aware. If you're better off coming if the tide is high, that is your choice. The view from there is great, overseeing Wellfleet and the Island. Parking can be found from 300 ft. down from the bridge. There is no sidewalk that connects to the lot, so please be careful. Once that's done, enjoy the stay!

You can cross the bridge into the park (Hamblen) and walk more although today we couldn't get very far as there were massive puddles due to recent rainfall. Very quick spot to visit just for the bridge but well worth a look see if you're in town.

My husband and I crossed the causeway, then walked along the harbor side of the shore to the tip of the peninsula- roughly 2 .5 miles. It took us just under 1.25 hours one way. We are pretty quick and agile on the boulders and we typically walk/hike at above-average pace. Still, you can only move so fast on the causeway and walking in sand will be slower than on pavement. Wear proper shoes with good grip. My Chacos were perfect for grilling the boulders and walking along sand. As for the difficulty, I'd say most people will be just fine. There are a handful of spots that might make a person uncomfortable if they aren't good with gaps between boulders or boulders that are slanted. The vast majority of the walk is along flat boulders - pretty impressive actually. Along the way & back, you'll glimpse a changing landscape of marsh and sea as the tide changes, plus you'll see a variety of birds catching tasty snacks on the marsh and sea water. You might even stumble upon an unexpected "find". We came across the carcass of a seal on the peninsula side of the causeway :-( To maximize our low tide hiking time, we set out about 3 hours before low tide. Water had already receded adequately from high tide. We spent some time on the beach near Long Point Lighthouse watching a few seals and boats before heading back. The entire excursion took about 3 hours. The beach is quiet - a great spot to relax away from crowds.

I don't know man...but I feel like it is…read more When hubs located these dunes as part of our nature escape in Ptown, I was like...."ok" and shrugged my shoulders. But once we started ascending on a narrow sand path leading to the tallest peak, all we saw was a stretch of pure gold and imagined some desperate soul running frantically looking for water. Even with the frigid late December visit here, make sure you bundle. Hiking on sand was difficult especially since we wore denims- but definitely wear leggings or joggers to get the most mobility as you hike up. We didn't prep ourselves mentally- so once we got to that tallest peak, we came back down and never saw past the end of the dune and into the ocean. Dune Shacks could well be that place that combines the dune+beach beautifully together. What a dramatic and lovely place to visit. If you're into the breeze rustling your hair and really sinking your boots in the sand, this spot's for you.

I came across this trail while planning our trip to Cape Cod. I liked it because it had some sand…read moredunes (cool) and I thought it would be cool to see the dune shacks. Unfortunately, I had no idea how high the dunes were! If you've never climbed a sand dune before, let me tell you - it's not easy! It's exhausting as for every step, your foot sinks down at least half way back from where it started. The sand starts fairly soon after the trail begins and you're soon trekking uphill in sand. We made it up to the top of the first dune and 2 of the 3 of us were beat. I took great lengths to stay as high in elevation as possible in making my way to the second dune, where I saw the ocean and maybe two dune shacks in the distance - at least half a mile or a mile away. I couldnt imagine walking that far in the sand. Overall, the trail was nice and it gave some nice views, but be prepared and know going in that its not going to be easy.

Lakes hills and…read moretrails The Princess Beach Conservation Area is a lovely parcel of land that includes a beach on fresh water Scrago Lake and pleasant trails that branch off into the woods in all directions. Most of the trees are pines so the hiking is very soft because of the pine needles, and the smell of the pine trees and ocean mixing together is wonderful. Scrago Lake is a whole lot warmer than the always cold as @#$% direct ocean beaches of Cape Cod Bay and usually much, much calmer. A nice place to bring the family and little kids when you don't want them to drown, get washed out to sea, or get eaten by giant kraken. There is a fee for parking cars during the summer but if you happen to know someone in the area they'll probably have a sticker and you can bum a ride with them. There is no charge if you bike or walk and in the off season you can park anywhere you want. A lovely and peaceful little area that is a very pleasant place to explore, take a short and easy hike or perhaps do some swimming. A great place to spend some time and energy no matter what the season.

Lots of little crabs along the way, and birds flying overhead. The parking lot is very convenient. We arrived at 10 am and only 3 cars were in the lot. I will say we got here early by around 9ish and the parking lot was still pretty empty. We were only coming for like 2 hours so I do wish there was some sort of a different rate if you're not here for a full or even a half day. It was super chilly and windy even though it was the end of July, but we did enjoy laying down and getting some salt water breeze and just the sound of the water was enough to be able to enjoy. Some parts of the sand are rocky but we landed in an area that was pretty flat and sandy. As we were leaving, the parking lot was packed and I can imagine this being a place that gets filled and booked up if you don't come by a certain time. Pro tip: If you hike/walk/ride into the park, you can avoid the $25 parking fee. Other than that, be sure to bring your coral reef safe sunblock, pickup after yourself (and others if you love turtles), bring plenty of snacks and stay hydrated. Would I come to this beach as my main destination, probably not. For sure a one and done but absolutely enjoyed getting some beach and relax time.

The beach is so rocky you Must wear water shoes . There is a very small area of soft sand. They charge $30 not a beach worth that will not return. They should remove the rocks and bring in soft sand and build a staircase with landing pads so its not that steep for elderly and older folks to get up and down from the beach.
