I got my hurr did for winter (always remember to treat yo'self) and in the days that followed, realised my brows desperately needed some attention. Under my new hair, they were almost invisible. I needed to make the second half of 2013 my Brow Time, and so I went on the hunt for a decent brow-beater in ol' Hobart Town. I called a couple of places for enquiries, but then I stumbled across Boutique Brows, and now I know my brows will never be the same again.
I called Bianca for a chat about my brows, and to get an idea of pricing. "It's $50," she said, as I felt a bead of sweat prick upon my brow, "but it's a full consultation and signature brow shaping, with a bit of cover make-up" (for those fun red blotches that follow waxing and tweezing). I was ready for anything, so I patted my brow down and asked for an appointment. Bad news for me (but good news for business), Bianca was booked up all week, and I couldn't make a weekday appointment after that... it would be three weeks before I could get a Saturday appointment. It turns out brows are crazy popular down in Hobart! There's a happy ending to this story, though, because Bianca called me back a couple of days later to say she'd had a cancellation that day and I was in like Flynn.
Bianca was a breeze to chat with while she worked (and while I reclined on the chair and tried hard not to wince). For once in my life I received praise for not fastidiously plucking my brows... because it meant she had a pretty good base to work with, and by "work with" I mean "sculpt into a thing of glory that belongs in an art gallery, not just a mere human forehead". I learnt the secret of brow powder (pencils, you are old news now) and I am proud to say that my winter brows are now a force to be reckoned with. I didn't hesitate in making a second appointment. read more
