We got really lucky with our tour. First of all, not every tour is lucky enough to see as many animals as we did. We saw multiple birds, a koala, multiple emu, Wombats, and wallabies. We saw literal mobs of kangaroo, a platypus, and two different kinds of possum (ring tailed and bushy tailed). We had a great light lunch of savory pie at a small cafe. We had dinner at the historic Surveyor General Inn. All of our meals were included with the tour package. Our group was small, a total of six plus the guide, and we all had different dishes. I had a beef burger, two had different kinds of steak, some had fish and chips. All of the food was well done and presented and very tasty! Loved the way back vibe of this tavern, which touts being Australia's oldest continuously licensed inn. During another portion of the trip, we also enjoyed a lemington, an Australian cake--it was so moist and sweet, with chocolate and coconut.
Our guide, Scott, was FANTASTIC! He was very warm, witty, down to earth, and engaging. He told us tons of facts and stories about wildlife and Australian history, as well as Aboriginal history. He encouraged questions and conversation.
Scott really went above and beyond as a guide. He remembered everyone's name, he asked everyone what they most wanted to see, and he really went out of his way to search for that animal. He even went deep into a site he doesn't usually go to in order to find possums for me, as I was interested in them and gliders. Because of his tenacity, we saw all the big animals you want to see while on tour in the outback and then some. And we laughed and learned about each other the whole way.
It should also be noted that Scott went out of his way to stop for photo opportunities and to give people time to observe the animals. Managing this was no small task, as the optimum viewing of Australian animals is at dusk, so the window is very small and hard to get it just right. Too early and everything is still hiding and sleeping. Too late and it's too dark to see. Scott nailed it!
I can't say enough about this trip, and especially Scott. I would recommend this experience to anyone again and again. read more
