I must give credit to this Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel. Although I was just here for one evening to…read morerest my head before officially driving famed Seward Highway...it really was the ideal place to stay. Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel is a rustic and cozy wooden lodge situated right off Seward Highway. It specifically sits 25 miles south of downtown Anchorage and 100 miles north of the town of Seward. In fact, the address for Brown Bear states that it's situated in the town of Indian, Alaska. I've never heard of Indian, AK...but basically if you need a place to stay in and around Seward Highway, this Brown Bear Lodge is accommodative. What was even more terrific about staying here was that the location felt far away from the hustle and bustle of Anchorage. The hotel views look out upon the scenic Turnagain Arm waters with the snow-capped Kenai mountains standing tall in the distance. Even though Brown Bear is located right off a very busy section of Seward Highway, I genuinely felt like I was staying in the heart of nature. And btw...when I did visit and spend the night here, unfortunately there was a lot of construction going on beside the highway. So here it is, Brown Bear Saloon and Lodge...a prime spot for those getting ready to start and or continue their Seward Highway journeys. Well, one thing...when I woke up in the morning, I actually had to backtrack a little up north on Seward Highway for about 15 miles. Yeah so, I take that back, the lodge isn't really the start of Seward Highway. But I traveled back north for 15 miles to the Potter Marsh Boardwalk where I explored for a little before returning back on Seward Highway for the 115-mile trek south. Basically...this Brown Bear Lodge and Saloon was much better than grabbing some random hotel in downtown Anchorage. It had personality and charm. What was surprisingly amazing about my stay was the price! Throughout my 3-week voyage around Alaska, Brown Bear had the cheapest rate by far! It was $67 (with taxes and fees included) for a room I had on the 2nd floor just above the restaurant. I mean, $67...can it get any cheaper for a place to stay right along iconic Seward Highway at the start of summer travel season? Lol, I don't think so. Although my room would be standard for most tourists...for me it really stood out with a lot of great amenities. It had a walk-in glass door shower (not just a tub with a curtain), very comfortable towels to dry off afterwards. And here me...I don't think I'd ever recall thinking about towels making a difference during my stay, but they really were fluffy and comfortable. Lol, maybe they were brand new? The room also had a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee pot, good sink area and a giant mirror with good lighting. Btw...I checked-in, inside the restaurant. Then I was given a key and shown the stairway to the 2nd floor. Too bad I had already eaten in Anchorage prior to arriving here because the restaurant looked very interesting...like a casual blue-collar spot to grab a good old-fashioned burger and fries...or simply just your typical all-American type of fair. Point is...the restaurant appeared accommodating for those spending the night as you can just have a hearty meal and then return to your room. Some extras about the restaurant...it resembled a bar/pub with a colorfully fun atmosphere. They had high top tables and chairs...a huge selections of beers on-tap. I believe I saw a billiards table to play and plenty of televisions to watch sports. I'd recommend eating here if you didn't catch a bite back in Anchorage. Overall, I'm happy I discovered Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel. I found it on Priceline. I couldn't have asked for a better one-night stay after all the traveling I had done prior to arriving here. This place is definitely emblematic of your off the beaten path motel/lodge sitting right in the cross section for traveling to all parts of southern Alaska.

Well we stopped by after being told the burgers were a hit. To my surprise my double cheeseburger…read moreshowed up completely burned to char absolute death. The worst burger I have had in years. Maybe this was a one off and I would happily concede that maybe just an off order but seriously giving someone a burger order so burned is ridiculous. Do better!

WORST HOTEL IN ALASKA. I rather be caught dead in the streets down town outside the Sheraton,…read morerather than in this terrible service of an establishment... If you even call it an establishment. They keep trying to bring me towels when I say "no thank you please no thank you" they just leave the door unlocked and walk away leaving me barn door wide open while I'm asleep door not even halfway locked. Their fucking insane for doing that to me. When I have been out here more than 5 nights now and they still can't even seem to do their jobs correctly no matter how long you stay here. It's absolute disregard for the customer just for the job entitlement. And they cant even give me my 20 nights stay money back pre-deposited even though they keep on accusing me of smoking marijuana although I do own a medical marijuana card I'm not even smoking any weed honest to God. And I just wanted to go to the Ramada inn way nicer hotel across the street from the government hill bridge. I can't even get my deposit back to go to the Ramada inn. For my 20 nights stay booked in advance at the bird Creek motel inn. I just wanted to stay in room # seven or nine. Where previously was a couple of nights ago, Before the cleaning lady lost her mind and accused me of smoking weed as another false accusation. I'm being held hostage in a different room now unable to get my money back and I do want to be in this room anymore.

Nothing fancy, but very clean... Convenient and well priced for the area... We had to be Anchorage…read moreearly us a bunch plus a sweet little drive...
