I just had a TERRIBLE experience with this place! Be…read moreforewarned - they care little about their customers and you will encounter aggression should you try to return an item. While shopping I found them all a bit too intrusive and pushy, but was overall happy with my selections - except one jacket which just didn't work well when I got home. Due to the worst winter weather in 45years - I wasn't able to drive to North Berwick to return the item for 3weeks. We live in Morningside, Edinburgh & this is not an easy travel - particularly during severe winter weather warnings. So I was appalled that the owner herself would not allow a refund for this one piece! She snottily told me her strict policy was that she would only allow exchange of items after 2 weeks time. She would not make an exception - even in these extreme circumstances. Her finances must be tight indeed... but she is cheap to a fault. It is apparent that she does not value her customers nor does she care to invest in future purchases or word of mouth. I now have a gift voucher I've no intention of using - perhaps will donate it to a charity.

Not being super into wool and hand made items at the time, I bought one wool headband and brought it home (living in Seattle, you get COLD all the time). I grew to love this headband so much, that I now order headbands all the time from this place and have them shipped to Seattle. I cannot find yarn like the yarn at Ragamuffin ANYWHERE! It is so unique and thick, I would buy hundreds of headbands from this place if I could. Truly, they are so unique, I cannot do them justice in an explanation. I always tell people who are going to EDI for business to check this place out, and I will definitely continue ordering from this place as long as they let me. :)

I stumbled upon Trouve completely by accident - I went for a stroll and ambled into this lovely…read morearea of Edinburgh. I was enticed in by their promise to deliver lovingly preserved second hand clothing to the ladies of Edinburgh! I was sold before I'd even approached! The dresses in here are in stunning condition, and all are proudly displayed on their hangers. They are mostly second hand but carefully chosen by the owner, who customers stopping by during my visit kept raving about! Always a good sign. The ladies occupying the shop were relaxed and friendly, having a good chat with me while I browsed. The clothing and accessories were all utterly unique and absolutely divine. I usually avoid big designers but when they are all displayed in such a fashion, and with the prices deflated, I have been enlightened and can now see why girls go crazy for them. Everything was colourful without being garish, and of impeccable quality. I bought an unusual ring out of Trouve for a reasonable price - it was too difficult to leave empty handed - and I had to hurl myself through the door before I went back to spend more money on a dress I fell in love with, and a pair of earrings I knew I didn't need (but wanted...badly). I felt pampered and well looked after without the shop assistants being too gushy or sleazy. They were genuinely lovely people who cared about their business - a very rare quality. It was bizarre in this day and age to see how a little business becomes pivotal to part of as community. Each and every customer asked for the owner, and one customer boasted of her entire outfit that day having been bought in here over the years! I can see why the girls love it so much - the shop owner runs wine tastings and other such girly events in store, adding spice to the art of shopping. I can't praise Trouve enough. It's got to the point I want to persuade my boss to get her wedding dress from here, and even if you don't buy anything (unlikely, ladies) you'll be bowled over by how lovely the shop assistants are. Just amazing. At the risk of starting a stampede, I should tell you that they had a rather foxy Prada dress for forty quid. Go, go, go!!

Offering clothes that are funky, hip and other adjectives from the 60s, there is a veritable feast of style in Trouvé (as you'd expect from a shop with a 'quirky' French name hinting at thrift store chic) . With cheap t-shirts (around £15-20), skirts and dresses, there is a surprising amount of choice in this small store, largely down to the fact it is very well laid out. Pride of place are the vintage dresses ( about £75-100) and even as a guy I was impressed. In addition to the clothes there are cool little nick nacks, jewellery and a good selection of shoes and bags, basically a girl's night out in one shop and who can say no to that. To add to this the staff are equally en vogue and have excellent product knowledge; it looks like they actually care about the stuff they are selling which makes a nice change. The only downside is that it is so popular with ma petite amie that I am not likely to stop hearing about it any time soon, which to be honest is not really the shop's fault. Vive la Trouvé!!

I had mistakingly thought it looked a bit outdated, but they've got some lovely, delicate looking rings for as little as a tenner, Ortak necklaces and an interesting collection of second hand gold charms. A lot of their styles will appeal to older generations, but there are contemporary pieces if you look hard enough. Marshalls is also a functioning store that polishes, mends, customises pieces and engraves on request. The business is a Jack of all trades in that respect, but for the casual browser there are both timeless, modern and unusual trinkets to suit a variety of clinetele.

If you are looking for some gorgeous jewellery, look no further than Alchemia Jewellers!…read more Situated on Thistle Street, Alchemia Jewellers is right in the centre of the New Town area of Edinburgh and it is just around the corner from the main shopping street, Princes Street, and so it is a convenient place to reach. As Stephanie has already pointed out, Alchemia is not your average jewellers, it sells super unique and unusual jewellery that you would be hard pushed to find anywhere else. All of their jewellery is made really precious metals and jewels. They had one necklace in their window which really caught my attention - it had a massive emerald stone in the centre surrounded by diamonds - amazing! Alchemia also do engagement rings and wedding jewellery, which are all completely amazing. All their items are expensive, but they are excellently made and are unique so you are guaranteed that no one else will have one. I can't wait until I can afford to buy some of their gorgeous jewellery, or meant someone who will buy it for me!!
