Because of COVID, contractors could not visit him with proposals, so he asked me to find a contractor. I called a couple of locations including Handyman Solutions. They were very helpful in explaining how to measure for the stairlift, and their price was $1000 less for the lift I needed. The homeowner approved their proposal. They were booked for about 2 weeks, but they said Matt tried to work in jobs like this into the schedule as soon as possible so people could return home. The following day one of their jobs only took 1/2 the time estimated. They sent Brad out to install my customers stairlift. He did a great job. He showed me how to operate the unit, and offered to come back to show the homeowner if needed. He also did an inspection of the home for fall hazards, and potential devices to help the homeowner. Matt followed up with me a few days later to make sure everything was satisfactory. I could not be more impressed with the service and professionalism of Handyman Solutions. Mike does great work; he's quick and doesn't leave a big mess. He was also very reasonable price wise. We were pleased to note that Mike is a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. As a veteran household and business owner, we like to support small businesses run by veterans. He also does side work for Habitat for Humanity. We have been left with a giant hole upstairs without a railing. So a cliff for our dogs and child to walk around. No temporary railing. No safety precautions. The staircase is usable (thanks to my husband's handyman skills). We had to order the stair treads ourselves because they forgot. My husband and I ended up staining the treads and painting the risers ourselves to hopefully get the project done. They contracted out for the railing. That company will not get back to us, but now the contactor with Bax said it's basically our problem now. So a project that was quoted to take a week, has now taken a couple months...still isn't completed. Might be three months. Our son is having surgery Monday, and this is the disaster we have to bring him home to. You really don't understand the value of a safe staircase until you no longer have one. I reached out to Mr. Walters through Yelp, as we needed significant repair to our basement due to a break in the main water line to the house. He started out strong, with doing two very minor repairs, which I thought was indicative of a person who would approach the bigger project with professionalism and skill. That could not have been further from the truth. For a $6135.53 job (insurance plus my $2500 deductible), Mr. Walters asked to break the payments into three, at the start of the job, assuring me that he wouldn't need the second or third payments until the end of the job. Then he slowly asked for the remaining two payments over the course of a week. My husband and I voiced concern about giving him all of the money before the job and he assured me that he was responsible and he would finish the work. As soon as he got that last check, he never showed up again - with excuse after excuse until finally, he just stopped returning our texts. Now my personal account it drained (because I had to pull that $2,500 out of our savings) and I have only a small portion of the work done. I have priced out the cost to finish the job, and it is $3,000, which of course, I don't have. My husband and I hoped maybe his phone was no longer working, and looked him up on casenet (long list of trouble with the law, dating back decades), and thought we would try to meet him at court, to work things out. After telling us that we were the problem (I am assuming because we expected professionalism), he said he would come by the following Monday and return our money). Never happened. Again. I trusted this guy at his word. That was my first and biggest mistake. I highly recommend that anyone who might consider using this guy to reconsider - he defrauded us and I hear he has defrauded others too!
