Would you bring your dog inside a supermarket? Is your dog your child? No. And no. So why would you ruin a Yelp business profile, just because it's a dog-free zone. I like it that way. The 2014 season started today, and there were about two dozen interesting, local vendors out in force. We picked up some vibrant, organic veggies and fruits from the two crop farms represented there, but there were all other kinds of other interesting tents, too: herbal soaps, local honey, maple syrup, etc.! It's a little pricey, yes, but you're supporting local businesses, and most of the stuff is good for Mother Earth. We started coming to this Farmers Market when it first started, and now its a couple of years in. We don't come by as often anymore because we moved to Quincy, but came back recently as we passed through Btree. Everything seemed familiar, until I noticed that they have put signs on orange barrels that say things like "no soliciting, no dogs, this is not a political event". I don't know what the heck happened in the time that we weren't coming to this market, but it was off-putting. Occupy? Tea Party? Neo Nazis? And srsly, no dogs? I understand banning dogs that cause trouble, but its an outdoor market, and if places like Boston City Hall market and SOWA can allow dogs, there's no reason for Braintree to have special rules. You're buying meat and produce straight FROM THE FARM...where there are likely all kinds of animals...including dogs. The point of a farmers market is that everything is fresh and real, and that means you have to come to terms with the fact that you can't sterilize everything for your yuppie existence. You are outside, literally in the road, buying food, and there were concerns about DOGS? Also, the thing that has always peeved me a little about the vendor line up is that it is mostly bakeries/pasta/honey/granola, and you usually only see 2-3 tents with produce. read more

I just read the other review that was written yesterday and I concur with everything said. What I can elaborate on is the dog issue. The very first time we came to the market we were told that we could not bring our dog in and that he had to stay in the truck. We had never had an issue with other area markets but whatever. We asked why and were told there was an issue with an aggressive dog last season (this was about a year ago). OK so a good reason, but here's my beef: every time we go THERE ARE DOGS. And we go every week. I feel because we have a large lab-mix we were singled out. They may ask these folks to remove their dogs too, but it seems to me they are able to buck the request and continue on. Another issue I have with the market is if you arrive before they open, they go completely insane. I have been there a few minutes prior to opening and they literally flip their s*#@ if you go anywhere near the area a minute before nine. The church bell across the street chimes at 9Am and they assert that the church is wrong and that you need to wait for their bell (control issues?). They make you wait til they ring some stupid fake-A$$ sheet-metal bell you can't even hear before you enter the market. We have actually been told we will be "escorted out" and even "ejected" (EJECTED!?) by guy in the orange vest if we try to pass to view the wares early. Meanwhile, and this is the best part, others are not only viewing the shops but are already purchasing goods as they entered from the street-side of the strip. Absolutely bizarre. We now take a deep breath and go straight to Second Nature Farm's stand for our organic veggies and then go directly home. It's not even a little bit fun to go here so I can't be bothered to peruse the other shops. One more thing, we bought wine from a vendor on one of our visits before it wasn't fun anymore and he said that Braintree doesn't allow tastings but told us Quincy does so now we go to Quincy on Fridays and take our dog with us. read more

I went to the Braintree farmer's market today. I didn't see any signs saying no dogs, nor did I see any dogs. It is a smallish market. The vendors are great, and there is a varied selection of good produce. I had been hoping for various cheese vendors, but there was only one. They only sold a couple types of cheese, so I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more. There was a meat vendor, a seafood vendor and some local wines. It would be fantastic if there were more vendors, but it's a pretty good market. read more

I went to this farmers' market throughout the summer with my husband and little boys and very much enjoyed it. We walked away with fresh fruits and veggies, jams, meat, and great conversations with the folks selling their wares. We look forward to going again next summer! read more

Love the Braintree Farmers Market it's the best. I am a BIG fan of the fresh veggies and fruit. Unlike some other markets I have been to there is lots of parking here. As for no dogs that's really not a big deal and for anyone to say it is needs to relax. So don't take your dog to the market. Bottom line they do a great job and I am looking forward to fresh corn when it's in season! read more

Excellent farmer's market with a wide variety of items including several fruit/vegetable purveyors, a beef farm, local cheese, local eggs, and specialty mushroom purveyor. They also have a number of processed food outlets including pastas, several bakeries, and Westport vinyards. They always have live music and we have a great time bringing our little kids. Best of the show: Second Nature Farm. This small certified natural product (spirit of Organic without the expense of getting certified as organic) produces amazing produce, frequently heirloom varieties without the pesticides and at prices that are comparable to the other vegetable stands. Farmer Adam soul is what you wish every farmer had... and if so, this country would have much better food and fewer environmental concerns. Great Harvest Breads are also excellent and store well. The Beef farmer's product is excellent and Foxboro cheese makes a delicious havarti and fromage blanc. Huzzah to the Braintree Farmers Market! read more
