We had a great experience at Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital while visiting family from Philadelphia over the holidays. Our pitbull, Cashew, has baseline skin allergies but things had gotten noticeably worse after the drive down. Dr. Craver was incredibly thorough, took the time to listen, and did a skin cytology that caught bacterial growth our regular vet had missed, which was such a relief! The nurses were all so kind and made Cashew feel truly welcome, and the front desk staff were just as warm and helpful. They even called the next day to check up on Cashew. The doctor checked him out completely. Turned out he had a severe ear infection. Doctor cleaned ears out, gave us ear drops to be given to Tucker 2X daily for 14 days. We've been coming to Brandon lakes for over 3 years now since we moved to Riverview. Dr. Haire was our old boy Milo's vet until he passed in July 2023 from kidney disease. She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. We shared a lot of ups and downs during the progression of his disease. She was always there for us. Our new fur baby JuJu has been seeing Dr. Craver. She came with some issues from the shelter and Dr. Craver was proactive and supportive during JuJu's recovery. I had to say goodbye to my girl of 15 years and it was hands down one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. That morning she was having difficulty breathing and I rushed her to the vet. They immediately saw her and tried to put her on an air machine. I didn't have to wait. They sweep in quickly. They didn't try to load me with medical suggestions or take my money. They were honest with me... but they were gentle. At 15, i knew it was getting close to saying Goodbye to Bailey. That morning Bae was having difficulty breathing and the vets agreed it was time. they placed me and Bailey in a comforting room with a couch, tissue, and slow music so I could say my final goodbyes to my dog. A dog who practically grew up with me through college and adulthood. A dog who was right by side as I traveled city to city, state to state, job to job. My family. I was the last person Bailey saw as took her final breath and I was allowed to hold my dog as she left this world for as long as I wanted. The staff at brandon lakes allowed me that. We will not be returning. My husband and I asked the vet and staff 3 times to make sure they complete pre-op testing on my dog before his first surgery. I called for these results after surgery and we were told they forgot to complete them. Now they want to sedate my dog again for testing that should have been completed during surgery. I was looking for a vet closer to home, so decided to give Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital a try... Hence my fur baby was due for his annual and shots! The staff was nice upon making the appointment and Dr Hepner was nice while we were there.. Though, I did mention that my baby was having issues with his wrinkles (he's prone to allergies) and upon chatting about his diet etc since it was our first visit he for the shots, same plan per usual allergy shots/meds... So I left as a happy costumer.. Well the next evening my baby flared up around his wrinkles and I went to give them a call in regards- since it was mentioned in our appointment and not checked. I was put on hold and than given the run around with every excuse as "oh I think she's here today, oh she was here, but leaving" .. So I asked, you have multiple vets and no one can advise anything? This was after 24 minutes of being on and off hold. I was put back on hold and than told that Dr. Hepner was there, but she said just to come for a recheck/followup on Monday. I asked specifically would there be another office visit charge? I was told yes, it's a new visit. Needless to say our annual exam with 3 shots was $619 dollars- I told them having another office visit fee was out of our budget for the week, but also a bit unreasonable because we were just there less than 24hrs and that I did mention it to the doctor! I was told that- that's all they could do so if I wanted it check than I had to pay the fee. I voiced my concerns and asked for our records from the annual exam, because I felt like there was no compassion for my fur baby or even me as the pet owner! They said I will let the office manager know. Well I waited 2.5 weeks before even posting this review because I wanted to give them an opportunity to make things right. I never got a follow up call or apology or ANYTHING... I just felt like after spending $619 on my FIRST visit that they would be more reasonable.. I could be wrong? I love this vet. I'm a first time dog mama and of course finding the best of everything for your own furbaby without cringing at the thought of possibly overpaying is a very daunting task. This vet was recommended to me by my fellow Yelpers here in a forum after a bad experience with a different vet on the same street. The other place seemed so outdated... Including their medicines! So, I couldn't continue with that other vet and I was a bit nervous finding another as the other vet was pretty expensive for such a shabby looking place... And THIS vet office is absolutely gorgeous and very up to date with their medical & filing technology-- For wayyyyy less than what I was paying at the other one! Wow. Do not be intimidated in coming in this charming office because the employees and atmosphere are really down to earth and sociable with their clients despite how upscale looking the exterior looks like. I've been coming here since February 2016 and I still love it. They're very accommodating with deaf people as they'll email and text you back if you need to set up an appointment or need to request some papers to be emailed to you ASAP. The other vet was so behind on this kind of technology as they required me to come in just to pick up papers at a certain time instead of emailing me since they actually still do the old filing papers standard instead of including a digital copy stored on their computers. That was a pain in the butt, but so easy for this new vet's office to email me a copy at a last minute request so my baby can go on a playdate at a special event that required proof of shots, etc. I highly recommend this vet and only hope they can get a doggy station set up outside soon enough. read more

Visted this SALES facility on August 2, 2019 for my dog suffering with pain and swelling of his foot, and diarrhea. Waited 45 minutes to be called back into a room after my arrival time. Red Flags went up when another women came to pick her dog up, and then became obviously upset, and accused them of over billing her. The woman even called someone and stated,"now they're trying to tell me that these costs ($100.00) were not included." I could tell from her statement to whomever she was speaking to on the phone, that that person also understood the disputed service to be an included expense, because the woman then said to the person that she'd called "I know, I told them that, and they're now saying it's not included, and they are also trying to charge me all of this money for some kind of medication-they're trying to screw me." A vet worker hearing the developing scene came out and said "come into an office with me where I explain these kinds of issues." RED FLAG" common occurrence?! Finally we were taken back into a dark room where I met with a girl who barely introduced herself-zero warmth. This young women went over my dogs symptoms in monotone, and took my dog back for a fecal exam. Several minutes later she returned stating that the vet had taken a (quick look) at my dog and she then presented a list of tests that the vet suggested-while handing me a pen. NO the Vet did not come in to explain anything, the sales tech handed me a list, and I had to ask for some kind of explanation, as she continued holding out the paper and pen for authorization. The bill/list included fecal testing-2 types, and skin testing, I was hesitant about the sales feel, but I was concerned for my dog, and it was late on a Friday, so I did not want to go through a weekend with him sick, so I moved forward. 15 minutes after that the mystery vet appeared. The vet -Tagggart told me that she found some scaling and bacteria on all 4 paws and that my dog had gastroenteritis, and she would prescribe the necessary meds to treat him. 20 minutes later, I am presented with another bill/list (no explantion), a pen, and total costs $220.00. When asked, it was explained that beyond the exam costs, and the 3 tests that were done, the list included medication for the diarrehea-I accepted, a $28.00 probiotic (to prevent future diarrhea-I declined), and $38.00 anti fungal shampoo (I declined and bought elsewhere for half the price), no actual medication was prescribed for bacteria on the paws. My dog now has puss coming from the same foot, so I called his morning asking that an actual prescription be issued to treat this bacteria, and I was told that I would need to come back in. I already paid for skin testing of the problem which I was told labs came back positive for bacteria. Conservative treatment with shampoo did not resolve it, and there is now tremendous swelling and puss, but these people want me to pay them for another visit. They say because now it is worse. What?! The problem has been identified! It is the lack of appropriate treatment/no actual medication that is the issue. This is ridiculous. I have asked that the lab test results (those were never presented in a list) be emailed to me, so that I can take my dog to a real caring vet for actual treatment; I'm still waiting for these test results-do they exist????? This should be no different than a human diagnosis once the problem is identified. In that if conservative treatment IE: rest, over the counter medication is tried and fails on a diagnosed problem, the doctor doesn't re-do the diagnosis, he/she treats it differently ie: prescribes appropriate medication. This office is about SALES, not CARE-the end. P.S. Oh now they say that the doctor has to complete and sign the records from my visit -10 days later my records are not complete-really????????? read more

We've been with this Vet for almost two years, ever since our two German shepherds were pups. They knew our dogs by name and took great care of them!! One of our dogs is very anxious and a huge hassle during visits but they NEVER made us feel unwelcome and did the best they could to take care of him. Both dogs have been spayed/neutered here and they had great recoveries. We're so sad to be moving away. Would suggest any military and really everyone in the area to go to! Best Vet ever. I have had bad experiences with veterinarians before (rude, inconsiderate, not willing to ask/answer questions, don't individualize care), but I've been here twice in the past year and they take amazing care of my dog! Dr. Rodriguez was kind, understanding, efficient and fast when giving my dog all his vaccines, and made sure I knew about all my options. The vet tech (I don't remember her name) was even more amazing - she was patient with my dog and thorough with me. Neither of them blamed me for having a nervous and reactive dog (I rescued my baby) and they actually handled him so well that he didn't show his worst self. We've been going to Brandon Lakes for 9 years beginning at their old location. Two days after Christmas my daschund, Maxwell, was viciously attacked by 2 dogs that escaped from their pin and into the yard. He was mauled, not sure if he would survive. With the love, care and immediate assistance of Dr. Rodriguez and the team, they put him back together and two months later he is back to chasing squirrels and hanging out with his sister. This is my vet and has been for 18 years, I'm not going anywhere. But my goodness the last two times I have been there I have been taken aback by the decreased use of masks by doctors, techs and the administration. I know that veterinary medicine is for animals , but they are still doctors and should be taking COVID seriously. I was recommended to Dr.Woody because the place I had been going to was horrible. My dog had a tumor under his tail over his anus and it was dangerous and I was afraid. The place I was going to within minutes told me his tail was coming off and we needed to start chemo and radiation. I was devastated and needed a second opinion. I went to talk to Dr.Woody and he was honest and sincere and talked to me like a human and not like a paycheck. And was super candid about what we had to do and what was going to happen and what might happen. He and his staff made me so relaxed and at ease. Long story short. I have a french bulldog with endless skin issues. She is 3 and we have seen over 8 different vets for various issues over those 3 years. First time there.The vet was very good about answering questions and all the staff is very friendly.

We have been taking our guinea pig to this animal hospital for 4 years- every 3 months for a nail trim, and annually for an overall check up. Each year, we have received the same feedback of "your guinea pig is ok, but he is old". Frustrating to hear, but since our pig was ok, we brushed off the negativity. However, in April this year it was observed that our pig has a cyst / tumor on its stomach. The vet did not elaborate on it but prescribed antibiotics and sent us on our way. The antibiotics worked well for a while so in July, we took the pig to Georgia to accompany my ill mother for a few weeks. Unfortunately, during that time, he bit into his tumor and was bleeding. We called Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital and asked what to do and all they could say was "we need to bring him in". Being that he was in another state that was not possible. Therefore we went to Brandon Lakes Hospital in person and showed a picture of the wound and they still wouldn't recommend anything. **Even a doctor for a human, would suggest something like a compression to help control bleeding**. Therefore, being that my mother was unable to get to a vet due to her own illness, we drove all the way to Georgia that evening to care for our pig. Luckily a neighbor helped my mom and pig until our arrival and we brought our pig back to Florida. All was well for a few weeks until he bit into the tumor / cyst again. This time, we called Brandon Lakes again and they said they would call me right back. Needless to say, 2 weeks later I'm still waiting for that return call! Fortunately, we found another animal hospital that cares for exotics/ small pocket pets and are amazing! Not only did they get us in right away, they offered long term options and helped with short term solutions. Once again, our pig is doing great! As a result we are done with Brandon Lakes Animal hospital and recommend anyone else with exotic animals to be cautious. read more
