    Cheddar Cheese Curds

This is a nice bar that has live music and a huge space indoors. They have pool and plenty of places to visit. I stopped in for dinner as it was near my hotel, I got cheese curds and the Boss Burger, no onions. The curds were good, of course since we were in Wisconsin, but the burger was a tad dry, it needs more cheese sauce. Overall a great stop with good food and drinks.

Came here for Wednesday trivia at 7pm. Also on Thursday. Hybrid through Discord app. Well appointed, interesting trivia questions covering anything and everything! Thought provoking! Had a peach cobbler sour, which was good. And the spiced cherry mule which was sooo good! Nice cherry front with a kick of lingering ginger. Amazing! I tried the cheesy tortilla soup which was like a tomato mini meatball stew. Disappointing. Bartenders were attentive but I could overhear them trying to push close to expired menu items of beers. I really loved the woodwork and attention to detail this place has. Pool tables (albeit pricey to rent) seem worth it on their well kept appearance and space dedication. Pretty cool.

Smash burger, Waffle Chili Cheese Fries, $2 Mystery Beer of the Tuesday

Smashburger was worth the $5 deal, overall food isn't going to win any culinary awards but it's pretty cheap and effective bar food in my opinion. At least once when our group ate on the outside patio, someone with "mental issues" from the street tried to approach the restaurant and the server very quickly got a manager who promptly escorted the person out of the premises. Another time the service was really delayed, but they were probably busy inside, and food didn't take long to arrive once ordered (at least for me-- someone else at our table got their food by the time I finished my meal).

Right before a show next-door, we stopped in for a drink. Super friendly bartenders who made fantastic drinks. I was only going to have one, but the drinks were so good. I made sure to have one more for the road. It's a huge venue with pool tables and an upstairs room for events. There was a watch party going on that we observed. I love that this place is right next to the high noon saloon. Perfect for getting a bite to eat or drink before a show.

I was here on a very busy night for trivia. Generally good service for how busy it was. Very large space that can fit a lot of people. My wings were cold to the touch. My friend's teriyaki wings were hot. Curds were fine. Fries were fine. Good ranch. Not a place for food. Great place to hang.

    Boyd

The manger Boyd was very hostile and pushy. I specifically asked him if mayonnaise was on my burger and he replied "no". And when I asked another person after I took a bite they replied "yes" i so then asked Boyd why he said no when I ask and he insisted on giving me the facts on how mayonnaise is made, and said to me "oh do you not like eggs or something, because that's all mayonnaise is made out of". And I actually have an allergic reaction to mayonnaise, which is why I asked in the first place. I feel disrespected and taken advantage of. He should NOT be a manager at all. Shows no type of professionalism and lack of sympathy for customers .Not to mention he did NOT care about anything I said until I asked him for his name.

I have been wanting to try this place since one of their burgers was included in Madison Burger Week! Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed. The pool tables were poppin' and I loved the atmosphere. However, the food was not good. The cheese curds were way over cooked - to the point where I didn't eat more than a few. The burger was ok, but over cooked and not juicy at all. Our service was fine, nothing spectacular and couldn't make up for the mediocre food. I wouldn't recommend this place for food. I'd maybe try it again for drinks and pool, but nothing more!

Players Sports Bar & Grill is a fun, casual, cash ONLY, typical Wisconsin neighborhood dive bar nestled in the Atwood neighborhood of Madison, WI. They have a great beer selection, classic bar games, pool tables, and ping pong! This place has plenty of tvs to catch your favorite sports! It was super busy when we arrived on Wednesday night. It seemed to be a diverse crowd of neighborhood locals, blue collar, younger folks, and just people having a great time! It's a great place when you are craving greasy, fried, delicious bar food, and snacks! They serve not only burgers, but cheese curds, wings, and lighter far like salads. They need a round of applause for coming up with some of the tastiest unique burger creations ever such as their Poker Ho Burger, Lotza Motza Burger, and Players Burger. My husband and I were blown away by the burgers! My favorite is their Big Daddy Burger with a side of onion rings and my husband's favorite is their Lotza Motza Burger with fries! The Big Daddy Burger is made with Bacon, Ham, Swiss & American Cheese with spicy garlic mayo. It is served hot, made fresh, juicy, made with a huge 1/2 pound well seasoned patty! The side of onion rings takes it to the next level being fried hard, crispy, golden brown, and hot out the grease! The Lotza Motza burger which is a super fun burger made with Deep Fried Mozzarella Sticks, Vito's garlic sauce, pepperoni & Mozzarella Cheese. Its like eating an appetizer and burger all in one! Players Sports Bar is your casual dive bar hooking you up with delicious bar food but don't expect sit down type of service or what you would expect for service at a restaurant. You have to order at the bar. Players Sport Bar is a great option if you are looking for a fun, casual dive bar serving up delicious rememberable burgers!

Crystal Corner is located in the famed Willy Street area of Madison, sitting on the corner of Willy Street and Baldwin Street. Crystal Corner has the vibe of the neighborhood, as is it divey, funky, nostalgic and truly local. However, even with all those things, this spot missed the mark for me and my buddy. We swung by on Sunday afternoon for a few drinks while wandering around Willy Street. We bellied up to the bar and ordered a couple of Bloody Mary's, to which the bartender said "Oh, I need to make up some mix. I can't believe people still drink those things around here.". Which was odd, as that was about to be our third bloody of the day, with neighboring restaurants going as far as having special bloody menus. The bartender pulled a can of tomato juice out, dumped it in a pitcher, added a few dashes of hot sauce, Worcestershire and some seasonings. And that was it. She then took some rail vodka, mixed it all up, and topped with an olive and pickle. While I know this sounds phenomenal, it was in fact one of the worst bloody's I have had. Additionally, the olive and pickle were a weird, almost rubbery texture. The combination of everything was off putting...and that was just the start. Next up is the space itself. While I appreciate a good dive bar that is full of nostalgic artwork, furnishings, lighting, etc...but it shouldn't be visible that the place hasn't been cleaned since these things were added. The ceilings and floors were the worst part, with the ceiling tiles being caked with black dust and dirt. Again, being worn is part of being divey, but being dirty doesn't have to be. In addition to the the main room ceilings, the bathroom ceilings were awful, missing tiles, moldy pipes exposed and just an overall feeling of ick that is beyond a normal bar bathroom. Last, but certainly not least, was the service and vibes. They were off, and kind of weird. When we arrived, there were a few locals and regulars, and then a few folks, including us. While the bartender was friendly with us, she was very rude, uncomfortably so, to another patron when he pulled out a credit card instead of cash (cash only spot). There was a little back and forth, then he left. Even after he left, she was calling him names and such to the other patrons. Again, uncomfortable, especially as a new patron to the bar. Overall, the bloody wasn't the only thing that left a bad taste here. From the bloody to the service to the dirtiness, this place needs some love and was just not it for us.

I am 19 years old, and my husband is over 21. As soon as we presented our passports, the security guard at the door refused us entry and would not even look at our marriage certificate, which showed that my husband would be responsible for me here in the U.S. In addition to that, he was extremely rude and disrespectful. He raised his voice at both of us while forcing us away from the entrance, used his body to block us (even though we were not trying to force our way in--we only wanted him to review our documents), pointed aggressively at a sign stating that alcohol consumption under 21 is prohibited, and told us to "get out." The issue is that I am visibly pregnant--38 weeks--and I do not consume alcohol. We were only there to celebrate a friend's birthday. Shortly after, our friend tried to speak with him and explain the situation, but once again he showed complete indifference, simply stating that he was "doing his job." My husband and I would not have had an issue if the bar had a strict policy of not allowing me to enter, even accompanied by my husband. However, the level of rudeness and lack of professionalism we experienced was completely unacceptable. He did not seem qualified to be in a security position, as he refused to review documentation and treated people in a disrespectful manner, regardless of whether they were customers or potential patrons. After reading other reviews, I noticed that poor service appears to be a common issue at this establishment, which is disappointing, as the venue itself seems comfortable and appealing. However, after today's experience, I have no interest in trying to visit again or recommending it to friends. I hope you take this feedback seriously and consider hiring staff who know how to perform their roles with professionalism and respect. Situations like this are embarrassing and ultimately damage the reputation of your business.
