If you're craving French food while in Argentina, look for this spot! My friends and I were casually walking back to the hotel and looking for a place for dinner. We stumbled across this place. We walked in and spoke with the owner who is French himself. Even though it was packed we were accommodated within about 8-10 minutes. There were 4 of us. The menu has all the French traditional dishes you expect. I ordered the escargot and other appetisers included oysters and French onion soup. The food tasted incredible! Fresh, hot and seasoned well. I ordered the salon, other orders included beef and duck. Everyone was completely satisfied with their dishes and I can tell you my salmon was amazing. Our dinner was accompanied by great Malbec (when in Argentina get great Malbec)wine. The ambiance in this place was great, very lively and loud as everyone had been enjoying their dinner. The price was very, very reasonable. I can't say if it's expensive for locals with the Argentine peso, but for US dollars this dinner was super cheap for us. The shopping is great but the real reason, is Pétanque,my absolute favorite restaurant, which is conveniently located , midway on the market's path. We had a wonderful afternoon in this gem of an Argentinian French restaurant. Very welcoming. Offered menus in English. The food was truly delicious. Very traditional French fare. We ordered the trilogy app which was very good. The onion soup is not to be missed!! Perfection in a bowl. The service was very good and attentive. Great wine suggestions. I had the fillet. I came here alone for dinner on a Friday night and loved it. Fun atmosphere and simple but great brasserie fair. I started with the terrine de pâté which was good but a tad dry, followed by a delicious and beautifully cooked salmon, and finishing with a lovely tarte tatin accompanied by a glass of Calvados! Not worth visiting. Rude owner/host and the waiter kept saying they did not have the food that was presented on the menu. However, at the same time, they served the other table the exact food we had tried to order. Escargot tasted like it wasn't washed properly, the bread was stale and Napoleon salad was just a few slices of apple with blue cheese. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in San Telmo. We went back twice this trip (as we did our last trip!!!). As there are no real vegetarian options we had to eat fish; everything we had was excellent except for the chips which looked better than they actually were. Probably the worst service and most inconsistent food Buenos Aires! I have been here several times and it really hit an miss with this place. Sometimes the food is good... sometimes it is not. But the service is pretty consistent.. its always bad. Today they started to by not bringing me a menu... I got up and fetched it myself! Once I ordered they brought my soup to the next table over... then they got my main dish wrong... only for the french waiter to tell me that that is what I ordered. Needless to say I left! Pascal... get some real waiters! I send the owner an email and here is his response: Thank you for your comments, all over the net...I will have appreciate that you talk to me first....please do not come back then.. May have over expected from the other reviews, but it was just okay. I had salmon tartare which was alright but a little bland. Then the Beef Burgonone with a side of french fries. The beef dish was the first thing I've had in this city that I could have made better myself at home. It was meat and potatoes and a little dry. The fries are very good. Service was as good as I've had in BsAs, very friendly, I am guessing they have better dishes, and the pice was very reasonable at any rate. read more

A nice French Brasserie in Buenos Aires. Not in the very center, but close. Open for lunch and dinner. Nice ambience, not very large space, comprising a huge and very high bar, beautifully decorated with old antique furniture and pictures on the walls. For appetizer we took Steak Tartar with French fries to share and - it was amazing. Served the way we like, with a fresh egg on top and all sauces and spices on the side - so we mixed it to our taste. And for dinner entrees - Duck breast with the orange sauce and Sweetbreads with a champignons' sauce, the last was served on a pastry like a brioche. Duck breast was not a top notch, a little bit tinny and crusty, not as soft as we expected it to be. But Sweetbreads occurred to be very tender, dainty and appetizing. The dessert was tart tatin - typical French apple tart where there are more apples than dough itself and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream it was very rich and juicy. Menu is vast enough and they have a lot of delicacies and treats to choose from: escargots, oysters, salmon tartare, boeuf bourguignon, lapin, truffle risotto etc. So there is a choice for most tastes and requests. The wine list is pretty short, but quite diverse on its varietal composition, so it is easy to choose the right wine to your chosen dish. Despite the fact that the restaurant is French, France is represented only by one red and three champagnes, everything else is Argentinian. Service was good and not annoying. They had problems with air-conditioning - so had to close half of the restaurant space. And there were not many clients, so we felt very cozy and private. Decent prices for a delicious food. we spent five nights in Buenos Aires. although we had several memorable meals, our late lunch at Brasserie Petanque the first day we arrived was the best. everything including the company of the owner, Pascal Meyer, was perfect. Pascal had brought escargot back from France the day before ---- prepared perfectly they opened a meal that included quiche lorraine, duck confit and, for dessert, crème brulee and an apple tarte tatin. we couldn't have been happier. our only regret was not returning for one more meal prior to our departure from Buenos Aires. read more
