The cafe is anchored by open kitchen/dining room in converted shipping container. The space, all blond wood, green tiled counter, and sixties swivel chairs, opens onto the expansive, gravelly garden. Herb filled planters, plenty of bike parking, and a stretch of picnic ready astro turf makes for an inviting and relaxing place to chill and have a coffee. The well curated menu features waffles with figs, a brisket sandwich, a "raw" salad, and selection of baked goods, and plenty of eggy things. I had the crumbed green tomato sandwich with tomato relish, mayo, and pickled onion on a fluffy brioche bun. Very decadent for a veggie sandwich, but full of flavour (could fried green tomatoes be my new favourite Melbourne cafe trend? Very likely). I was super stoked to see a small, mixed green salad punchy with vinigar dressing accompanying my sandwich. Perfect to cut through the sweetness and richness of the sandwich. It was a very reasonable 11 dollars. My flat white was good, served plenty hot, as I like it, and service was friendly, if a bit rushed. So far, so good. I'm eager to come back and try a few more dishes here: As it is, Rudimentary has one of the best spaces in the west and at least one very good sandwich...Looking forward to next time.

There are so many yummy but healthy looking options at The Premises, but I am especially intrigued by The Premises hot smoked salmon with tea pickled egg. Back in Asia we often have tea smoked eggs or eggs marinated in tea so I was interested in The Premises take on it. The salmon was beautifully cooked and was delicious with the creamy potato salad that came with it. There is also a served of sesame lavosh atopped with a salad of pickled tomato, radish and cucumber. The sesame lavosh was delightfully crunchy and I even gave some to Bubs to munch on (unwillingly of course! It was so yummy!). The pickled tomato however was too sour! The tea pickled egg was not what I imagined it to be, not good not bad, just meh. Nothing spesh. I would much preferred a good poached egg with this salmon. With drinks, I am not a coffee drinker *ducks for cover* but I heard there are good coffee here. I chose the lemonade which was ok... It tasted more like a honey lemon drink I drink when I am sick more than lemonade with mint. The cake cabinet tempted me OMB the way out but as bubs was starting to get really fussy I had to leave it for next time!

Today on the recommendation of a West-sider I ventured out of my comfort zone. Small Graces is an unpretentious and (unsurprisingly given the name), quaint cafe on the ground floor of a modern apartment complex in Footscray. I was greeted with a smile and took a seat at a small table. My single espresso arrived in no time, which was easy to drink. I ordered the "Huevos Pericos", which is described as "Colombian-style eggs, scrambled with spring onion, tomato & spices, two cheese-filled corn cakes, avocado". The corn cakes were crisp and light, the cheese oozed out as I cut through them. Well seasoned, featuring fresh spring onion. Very tasty, and i smashed them down. I was quite hungry but i may have set some land speed record the way i downed it. However I was left wanting ... is this a good thing or bad? Is less more? Or is less, less? The tunes put a smile on my face, bathing me in the warmth of nostalgia as songs by Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen played out. Note. To use the toilet you need a key, and then to walk outside and around the side of the building. The menu here is seasonal which is always a plus in my book, making for more sustainable, innovative and fresh dishes. Staff were friendly and I didn't feel rushed. Okay, the idea of having a coffee shop tacked onto the back of a larger store has been around for a while, particularly with some of the major chains (I still remember having lunch at one of the major department stores, despite the cafeteria, and the store, being pretty tacky), however these days it seems as if many of these places are converting themselves into bars that happen to sell other things, such as records as is the case with this bar. Pretty cool I reckon because it means that you can enjoy the atmosphere of the bar, but you can also browse the collection of records as well. Also, they have a couple of pretty decent lounge areas, and also beer garden out the bar.

8bit is without a doubt one of Melbourne's most hyped burger in this era of the burger trend here…read more The restaurant has a really cool retro video game theme. Our favourite item here is the classic 8bit with cheese - the beef patty that sits in between the other fresh ingredients is always tender and juicy. The beer battered fries are always crispy and complement the burgers perfectly. However, their food has changed slightly as compared to a few years ago. The food is still good, but we found that it wasn't as good as it was before. With that said, it's still one of the better burger places around and will always be the local's favourite!
