There is also a planetarium! The complex is part of the college, but is set far from the main college area and has its own parking. At first the museum really scared me by its 1970's look, but it's actually quite good for its size. It has a huge shell collection, as well as some minerals and other things mentioned on its website. Some of the displays had some great information on them. There is a weaver bird nest with information and graphics on how the nest is built step by step. There is a display of Texas shells along with models of what the organisms look like when they are alive and inhabiting the shells. There is a small dark room in the back that has minerals with a timed display of UV light showing their fluorescent properties. There is a display of regular colored shells and their albino counterparts. Once I got past the very old feel to the place, I was impressed. Overall, I think the museum is worth the trip from Houston. We visited this museum and Sea Center Texas in the same day. Both are free and really interesting and educational.

Garage parking will set you back about $20, but I was fortunate to find some metered street parking in the area. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a must visit for any museum enthusiast and in my opinion the best museum out of all the ones in Houston. Admission is $25 which includes access to most of the museum accept for special exhibits. The paleontology hall with dinosaurs was my favorite part of the museum followed by African wildlife and the cabinet of curiosities. They also have a hall of ancient Egypt, interactive science exhibits, gems and minerals, Faberge eggs, and so much more! Overall, this is an impressive museum and one could easily spend the whole day here. Expect to spend at least 2 to 3 hours to visit all the highlights of the museum.

Is this the White House or the natural history museum? Anyway the ticket master gracefully traded us tickets for. American currency. Anyway we then walked into the molecular biology portion of the exhibit. As a wannabe cell biologist I LOVED it. I wish they had a walk in abale cell tho They had touch screens that could not be touched Next for the dinosaurs. It was incredibly agitating not to see labels for the organisms presented. They just put stuff in a cage and expected us to identify it. Not a fan of that. They had average dinosaurs, nothing cool. Anyway,

Members can use their pass at either location. This location is actually ironically located in a fairly simplistic brick building that used to house a prison of all things. Parking is free. Inside there are just a few exhibits including life science, hall of technology, a special salt exhibit, hall of paleontology, space hall, and a few other exhibits that required a special extra fee like a dig pit. The exhibits are somewhat small but almost all have an interactive component which can be great for small kids. Part of our event included a very short tour of the second floor and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. I work in a very different type of industry so this was really refreshing to see. They do have private meeting rooms that can be reserved which made it easy to have some meeting events in addition to time to wonder the exhibits. Overall, I enjoyed the day and glad that I got the opportunity to "be a kid again." If you're in the area it's definitely worth checking out. If you're far away however, I am not sure that I would make a special drive.
