We took a cruise excursion that took us here first thing off the boat, unfortunately nothing was reversing so it was like ok a big body of water and a paper mill. We went about our tour and on the way back to the ship, I guess we had some extra time, so we went back by the falls. This time, it was reversing!! Definitely a very unique thing to see. Keep your eyes open for cute little sea animals (seals, otters, etc).

The pulp mill in the pictures has been set up to be green. It emits almost no smell and cleans the water before it goes back into the harbor. Depending on the number of tour buses, this can be one of your busiest stops. I suggest taking a video each visit so you can really see the difference between the tides.

"The Rez" is my favourite place to enjoy the day with my family…read more Offers a supervised freshwater beach, a playground, picnic tables and hiking trails. There is so much to do! There is a wide, gravel trail (wheelchair accessible just make sure someone able to push through- took grandma & loved it) going around the entire rez (3.4KM) but off this main gravel trail is 2 dozen trails (no official map, just have to look for the openings!) My favourite trail we call "beaver trail" - named because you pass a beaver dam! (have never seen a beaver but always have my camera ready...) To get to the beaver trail: Go clockwise. The opening is 3 minutes after you start on the gravel trail - its wide enough for 1 person so bring your carrier. Also, I've been temped to let my dogs off leash in these trails but one day I came across 2 poripines (they left us alone and we left them alone, no harm) but from then on will not let me doggies off leash (as the sign states lol) There are lots of beaches as well! To get to the best private beach people bring their poochies to: Go clockwise around trail. When you come to bridge take the trail to the right (along the water) There will be other small trails leading off but keep going straight and you come to a beautiful beach. Across the street from Saint John City Market is King's Square. Surprisingly there is no website…read morededicated to it to learn more. It was a lovely park to walk around and sit for a bit. The square was named for King George III and granted to the city of Saint John by Royal Charter in 1785. In the early years, the grounds were the site for such public uses such as oxen roasts, fireworks displays, militia parades, cricket games, public wells, a slaughter house and agricultural fairs. It was developed into a park in 1844 and the current design of paths was laid out. The bandstand in the middle of the square was designed and built in 1908 for the city coronet band by Neil Brodie, a local architect. One year later, it was donated to the city of Saint John in the name of King Edward VII of England. There are many monuments and statues scattered throughout the square.

This beach was one that I won't ever forget!…read more Black sand between your toes was pretty awesome, and the salt water rising let you know that time was passing just as sure as grains of sand fall in an antique egg timer. This was a fantastic stopover on our trip to St. John from Moncton. I have no idea how to get to it though, so you'll have to figure that out for yourself. I was the driver and not the navigator to this hidden gem of a destination. This beach is at the end of a curvy, and hilly gravel road without much for signage. It is on private land, I believe owned by a hydro company, and if there is maintenance, there isn't much of it. There is no garbage container, washrooms or outhouse. Just a small gravel parking lot and a hand written sign on a rock tell you the name of it. As well there is a plaque explaining how the area is protected as a valuable ecosystem. The beach depth varies as the tides go in and out, 12 hours a day so keep that in mind when you park it on the sand for the day. Since the tide was coming in while we were there, panic ensued as my friend's phone and dress were underwater before we realized they were missing. Whoops, there's the phone under a foot of water lol. The swimming here was great! Remember to change into your suit before going or you might be giving other swimmers a show. Nice salty water keeping you riding high in the waves with inherent buoyancy and no nasty rocks under the depths to harsh your beach buzz. The black sand is more of a charcoal colour, and with white rocks sticking out, makes for stunning views and memorable photos. Highly recommended when craving a salt-water swim!

It's weird and pretty horrible. We would never come back to St John- because there just isn't much there, but this was especially disappointing. Add to that the fact that the Big Pink Bus never picked you up as soon as it said it would and you've got the makings of a really awful holiday stop. We went to many fabulous ports on our cruise but this definitely was not one of them. IF I ever went here again, and I certainly hope I do not, I'd stay on the boat. I can't imagine what people are thinking giving this monstrosity 4 and 5 stars. When I think of the other (beautiful) things I saw on my trip I'm aghast that this was included.

The trail is well marked along the passage by an elevated wooden walkway with some historical signage. At the end, there is a boat ramp where the water from the harbour splashes ashore.

A beautiful walk…read more along a great river Harbour Passage Du Port is a path designed for walking, running, skating and biking that winds it way along the St John Harbour. It's starts at the boardwalk in the center of town and ends up near the Reversing Falls. It's actually a series of paths that connect parks, recreation sites, heritage places and scenic views. It's part of the Trans Canada Trail and one of the purposes, other than the obvious recreational use, is to promote environmental awareness of the St John Harbor, It's a great place to walk any time of the year although it does get pretty crowded in the warm weather. Breath taking views are everywhere and care must be taken so you don't plow someone over or wander off the path into the river while you are looking at everything. This is the place where the St; John's River meets the Bay of Fundy and the water can be wild and mesmerizing to watch. St. John is a working port so huge and fascinating ships are constantly gliding in out out across the water. The trail has lots of historic sites and signs explaining the history and geology of the area and plenty of benches, gazebos and observation platforms are strategical located. Three small lighthouses greet you on the start of the boardwalk in the center of town and the incredible reversing falls are at the other end. A very enjoyable place to walk, skate or bike any time of the year. Lots of great things to look at and the scenery and people are always changing. St John definitely did this right.
