If you find yourself waiting longer than expected, rest assured that it's because they are giving each patient the same thorough and compassionate attention you will receive. During my visit this week, my 1:30 p.m. appointment for a mammogram and ultrasound was completed by 3:00. I met with Dr. Amerson around 4:00, and after reviewing the results, she recommended a biopsy. Very Disappointing ! No wonder many don't have trust in the medical field. Was told by a Nurse and a receptionist that even if I have a tumor, I have to have a mammogram. Even though medical research shows compression of tumors can spread the cancer . What's the purpose of going to a Doctor Who is a specialist if you have a receptionist and a nurse diagnosing and telling you what procedures you have to have. Here's what happened when I called BCS: 1. Couldn't get through, left a number, didn't get a callback 2. I told the person on the phone that Northside told me I was high-risk and I wanted to set up genetic counseling and an MRI. Person on phone told me that they don't do genetic testing, they refer out for that. I repeatedly tried to explain that I was trying to see a high-risk clinic because Northside said to. She kept saying that they didn't do MRI's for new patients. I had to repeatedly ask how one becomes a new patient before she would tell me that I would have to go in for an appointment for multiple hours at which the doctor ("We do not let new patients decide whether they want mammograms") decides whether I get a mammogram even though I just got one last week. The person was unable to comment on whether a new mammogram would be covered by insurance when I just had one last week. When I said I wanted to schedule for next year, then, she said they only schedule 6 months out so I could call back in December or maybe someone would reach out to me (it was unclear). 3. There doesn't seem to be online scheduling or an email address for the office. The website is very old and it's unclear what services are offered. 4. Instead of getting your screening mammogram one day and having to come back other days for additional work up, in this office, you come for your yearly exam, it's read while you are here and any additional work up is done on the spot. Before you leave you see your care team and they go over the findings BEFORE YOU LEAVE.. hey, it's great piece of mind to not have to wait to get your results. Just horrible first impression woman who answered the phone at 8:35 am on Wednesday, 5/15/24. Should be ashamed of having this as the first point of contact. I had a category 4 ultrasound and explained I cannot have a mammogram because of recent surgery. She told me I would have to have one. I asked what am I supposed to wait until I'm healed and risk time wasted if it's serious? So she hangs up on me! Wow, good doctors or not - clean house! As a public health professional who worked in cancer control for over a decade and health disparities for 20+ years, it's unfortunate that I firsthand experienced being dismissed and unheard as a patient. I was highly referred to this facility for a biopsy. The overseeing doctor provided good care and took time to explain. I knew I had a six-month follow-up and received a friendly reminder. However, the letter was vague and did not explain the details of a follow-up. My insurance changed due to my new job. So, I did my due diligence and spoke to finance to find out my financial responsibility just in case follow-up meant another biopsy. The financial department provided excellent and timely service. I was informed that the physician assistant would call me with an update. I followed up at least three more times with no success. I even requested the manager to call me. It's two months later and I still have no explanation about the details of a follow-up for my biopsy. This is unfortunate and unprofessional. Preventive services are only effective when you have a healthy patient-doctor relationship and this includes the entire staff. read more

Do NOT use this group! 3 hour wait times each time you visit. 10 minutes maybe spent with the dr. This should not be my new "norm!" Since my right side lumpectomy surgery - July, 2018 I've had numbness, tingling, tenderness, pain in my right tricep area and breast. 2 years complaining to dr. Finally, dr. suggested PT. PT said, sorry if you had come within 6 months of your surgery we could have possibly improved your discomfort. There is nothing we can do to help you. Today- 3 hr wait, met with the PA who said my discomfort would have good days and bad days. I requested to see the dr. who upon hearing of my discomfort - again - acted surprised to hear of it. So for months I called and called trying to get the appointment I needed for the breast CT ordered by Dr. Steinhaus, and time and time again I kept getting routed to the wrong person. I knew my insurance was going to run out in March and I kept telling them this. FINALLY, I got the appointment I needed 2 weeks before my insurance was to be canceled only to be called the day before my appointment and told my insurance would not cover what was ordered. I was told that they would notify Dr. Steinhaus' office and they would follow up with me. Well I never got a follow up call, instead I got a discharge letter bc supposedly I did not get the follow up I needed..... I love the doctors at Breast Care Specialist but it's next to impossible to make an appointment. You can't make the appointment a year in advance because the scheduling calendar isn't open. When the calendar opens, you have to leave several messages before you get a call back. Please don't miss that call because the cycle starts over. But once you finally get an appointment, the staff is nice and you get your results the same day. I was even able to get a biopsy the same day. read more

I require digital mammograms due to multiple mammoplasty procedures. This office baffles me. My prior breast surgeon's office in California was STELLAR - responsive, considerate, and valued me as person and patient. At BCS, I spent FIVE hours for a routine mammogram and ultrasound last year. Two hours into the wait, I asked if they could "split" the procedures into two days since the wait seemed to be with the ultrasound portion. But, nooo ... finally I informed them that my child would be waiting at school, as I didn't realize a 10am appt would take FIVE hours. They skipped the ultrasound altogether and I saw the doctor. So, here it goes - time to schedule another appointment... and the office scheduled me for MARCH with a Nurse Practitioner. Um, three mammoplasties for abnormal cell growth and I am supposed to see a Nurse Practitioner? I am finding a new imaging center, one that will treat me nicely and actually pull up my info before pushing me off on a Nurse Practitioner with my history. Perhaps they just need a new office manager. And to have a feedback survey. Not everyone walking in the door requires surgery, so perhaps they staff up with some additional radiologists to make it a more efficient experience. read more

Dr. Simpson is awesome but the staff's attitude of the front desk and billing are terrible. The customer service is so unprofessional in how they talk to you. I had an appointment to see Dr. Simpson, but when I came for my appointment, I was told I would be seeing another provider because Dr. Simpson was out that day. (A courtesy call would have gone a long way to absolve the matter). I did not think that would change anything as for my insurance payment, but I ended up paying a higher copay and other fees than I would have if I had seen Dr. Simpson. When I attempted to call and get the issue rectified regarding payment, the billing manager was very unwilling to understand my point, and very unprofessional. Not to mention, when I first came, they charged me two high co-pays for the same visit which everything could have all been done the same day but instead had me come back the next day. Even at times when I have called to get an appointment, they are terribly rude and very nonchalant as though they don't have time or is irritated while I am considering the dates/times they tell me are available. As I said the doctors are fine, but the other staff from front office and billing are terrible and very unprofessional! I was referred here by my doctor. I went for my annual SCREENING mammogram. However, this was billed as a DIAGNOSTIC mammogram, so I got stuck with a bill for over $700. My insurance company called on my behalf, but they would not change it. BE VERY AWARE before you go here in regards to how you will be billed. Additionally, the person who did my mammogram was very rude. She said to me, "if you don't relax I'm not going to be able to take these pictures" and with significant attitide, "you just need to stand still and let me move you" when I was attempting to follow her every instruction. Awful Experience! This practice is very unresponsive. It was nearly impossible to schedule my appointments. Unfortunately, I would have been better off not going here at all. It is impossible to get anyone to return your phone calls. The practice also does not return phone calls from my insurance company representatives. I was completely duped into a procedure that was not required. I was assured by Breast Care Specialists representatives that everything related to my procedure except my copay was 100% covered by my insurance company. This was an absolute and bold faced lie! My tissue was sent to an outside hospital without my knowledge or consent and then I was charged an enormous hospital bill. The worse experience in my life was with Dr. William A. Barber of Piedmont Hospital Atlanta. I went for a simple mastectomy and instead I was operated on by a 3rd Year Resident of Emory, Dr. Caitlin Fitzgerald for a plastic cut surgery. The cut was drawn by Dr. John Symbas, a plastic surgeon. All of this without my permission and while I was under anesthesia. I ended up with a terrible infection and botched surgical result. I have complained to Georgia Compsite Board and the hospital. In addition my medical notes were falsified. STAY AWAY FROM DR. BARBER AND DO NOT BELIEVE THE REVIEWS YOU READ. If I had any concerns this practice made me feel I could still come to them for advice. I'm a retired medical consultant and I think some of these reviews have been very unfair to this practice. I chose this practice because I wanted the best breast specialist in ATL. I also wanted my tests performed all at once because to get a call to return was nerve racking to me. I also don't mind the wait because one day I may need some extra time. Cancellations happen and it's difficult to work in their patient load when their staff has an illness or emergency. The next time you call a doctors office, try to be courteous and respectful. Believe me they are caring professionals and they want to help. This is a diagnostic breast care center. What that means is they're very thorough and focused on finding abnormalities and treating them. They do digital mammograms, which are very sensitive and especially recommended for women who are premenopausal. One of the nice things is you will have your mammogram results before you leave; if there's an abnormality, you will be called back for more views before you leave. They also perform MRI, ultrasounds, and other diagnostic procedures. I had breast cancer in 2007, and Dr.Amerson did my lumpectomy. She came highly recommended. As I was going under anesthesia, she held my hand, and I will not forget such a caring gesture. She did a great job, and my scars are very minimal. She also did my chemo port surgery, and she placed it a little differently than many women I have seen. When I asked her about the placement, she said it's because she's a woman and knows what kind of clothing women wear and placed it so the port scar is hidden in most clothing. Those are just two examples of her personal caring nature for patients. I would give Dr. Amerson 5 stars. The mammography techs would get 2 stars. I have had some bad experiences with a tech who did not immediately remove the pressure when I said to remove it because it was excruciating. I spoke with the office manager over it and am hoping my next experience is better. Front office staff would also get 2 stars as communication in the years I've been coming here is consistently very poor. They confuse appointment details of what tests you're getting, times, etc. Fortunately, great doctors and very good diagnostic equipment make up for these experiences enough that I intend to keep coming here. read more

Worst experience of my life. Dr Stallings was perhaps the most rude, condescending, and passive aggressive HUMAN I've ever dealt with in my life. She needs to find a new profession. I've been in severe breast pain and horrible swelling and she completely blew it off. She told me to 'get over it' and that it was normal and I'd have to learn to deal with pain. Didn't order an MRI. I made this appointment over two months ago and they cannot see me any sooner than another month. Did not even offer to put me on a short call list. The staff was rude! I started going to BCS in 2004 after a biopsy that was negative for cancer. I have been going now for 17 years and each time I get more and more annoyed that we are expected to come early for the appointment to fill out our paperwork and then sit for over 2 hours before even being called back for the mammogram. There needs to be better scheduling. The Alpharetta Office has very little seating, so you are literally shoulder to shoulder next to each other. What happened to Social Distancing? Once the Mammogram is done, you wait another hour to see you Doctor. I was totally annoyed, until a PA came in-the Dr was too busy to see me. Now I was fuming. Shame on me for going back and doing this year after year. I will be getting my screening elsewhere next year. Unless you need additional services besides a Mammogram, I would ask them if you can get your screening elsewhere. I am fine waiting a few days for my results. read more

I received a phone call within a few days of scheduled appointment to say they had a shortage of techs and needed to reschedule. the next apt with her was 4 months out. I have a family history of breast cancer and that was not acceptable. said I could see a nurse practitioner but didn't want that. asked if would be willing to go to Alpharetta to see her and I said yes. they set an appointment for 2 weeks out. I went to Alpharetta which was a smaller easier office. still took 2 1/2 hours. by the time I was ready to see Dr. Stallings a nurse practitioner came in and said Dr. Stallings was busy and she would see me. didn't wait to see and nurse practitioner and went out of my way to see the doctor whom I never did see. drove home in monumental traffic for nothing. This call came at a complete surprise because I received a phone call yesterday saying my appointment was confirmed. The lady who called from the practice told me I would not be seen until August and that she had to call FIFTEEN other women to cancel their appointment as well. I have been going to BCS for over ten years and to be told that my appointment is being cancelled is very unprofessional and puts women's healthcare at a risk. Do not get treatment here unless you want to spend the next five years being treated like an afterthought. Consistent with all the other reviews in the past couple of years, this place is horrible about wasting your time and providing poor customer service. Be prepared to wait hours and hours to be seen for each and every follow-up. Every 6 months you can count on losing at least half a day unnecessarily because they cannot manage to see patients until 2-3 hours past their scheduled time. Even if you schedule the first appointment of the day at 7:30 am, expect for them to fail to see you until at least 10 am. read more

I have been coming to BCS for 10 years! Yes you sometimes have to wait a while in the waiting room but FOLKS it is because they are trying to take care of a lot of people. I would not trust anyone else other than BCS (Dr Simpson and Dr Amerson). My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and had a terrific outcome. I have had several procedures myself and could not have been treated better. I've been places before where you are rushed in and out quickly without the attention to detail and that's where mistakes are made and problems are missed. Do not waste your valuable time going to Breast Care Specialists. I have been trying to send records from previous procedures they completed to another office so I can get a routine mammogram done. I've left numerous voicemails yesterday and today, and sent an email yesterday to the records department, but they do not respond. I have tried every voicemail option they offer to get someone on the the phone who can give me an answer as to what I can do to get my records. I left a message with the records dept manager also and still nothing! I am appalled that they treat their patients with such little regard when they are dealing with the fear of breast cancer. I am having a biopsy done on my left lateral (arm) lymph nodes. BCS did a biopsy on my left breast a few years ago. I need a current diagnostic mammogram to determine if I am having a breast issue that has spread to my lymph nodes. Was told the next available appointment was in APRIL 2019 - over 4 months away. This has been an ongoing issue with this practice during my tenure as a patient. If you need to reschedule an appointment, it's a 5 month wait for the next available appointment. I am picking up my records and moving to Emory. I can have the same diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound there within two weeks. And the staff is very rude. read more

After years of being satisfied with my usual mammogram provider, I went to BCS because I was told I needed an ultrasound since there is a family history of breast cancer. My first appointment (in 2018 at the Johnson Ferry location) took a little over two hours for the entire appointment. This year, I went to the Alpharetta office. The wait time was ridiculous, over 2 hours before I had the mammogram. After waiting another hour, I still had not been called for the ultrasound. At that point, I decided I didn't need to have the ultrasound (never having had a negative exam and in my late 60s). I was told I couldn't see the doctor to get the mammogram results without also having an ultrasound. What? It's my body, I should be able to choose what diagnostic testing I would like to have. After over 3 hours in the office (and not enough chairs for all of the patients), I rescheduled the ultrasound for later in the month just so I could leave. This very large practice needs to invest in more personnel and more equipment if they continue to schedule the same volume of patients. read more

First, let me say that I have never written a review for anything. However, as a 20+ year patient of Breast Care Specialists, I feel it is imperative that I share my latest experience. As indicated by my 1 star, I will be looking for a new practice. I am typically seen by BCS twice a year...once for the office visit and once for my MRI. Today, Thursday, October 18, 2018, should have been my office visit appointment which I dutifully made 6 months ago. I received a voicemail on Monday at 6:17pm informing me that my appointment scheduled for Thursday had been cancelled. I was told I could come the following week on a Tuesday at 1:40pm. I called the next morning shortly after 8:00am to talk with a scheduler and find out the reason for the cancellation. I was told there was a "tech shortage" and that the following Tuesday time was the only time they could see me. I'm not available the following Tuesday, and I expressed my frustration at being bumped from an appointment that I had made 6 months ago. I asked to speak to the office manager and was sent to leave a voicemail with the person that oversees all of scheduling, Natasha. At this point, I truly thought I would be able to speak with someone and have the appointment rescheduled within a week. I knew that if I had been the one to cancel the appointment, it would take months to be rescheduled. I heard nothing on Tuesday, and I then left a message with the office manager later that day expressing my concerns. Still no return call. I called and left another message with the office manager on Wednesday morning. Still nothing. I finally called a scheduler again at the end of the day Wednesday. I was given the same explanation and told if I didn't take the time next week, then I would have to wait until January. I kept pressing for some other solution. I was given Dec. 28, which happens to be when I am out of town. That would have been 2+ months after the appointment they cancelled. Eventually, after realizing that this scheduler could really do nothing (although she kept putting me on hold to talk to someone), I acquiesced and took a mid January appointment. She once again asked for my number to have Natasha call me in the morning. As I suspected, I am still waiting to hear from her. Knowing that it would have no impact, I still felt I had to express my frustration at never getting a call back from anyone. My mother died of breast cancer at a relatively young age (51), and I am always diligent about getting all of my checkups. I have never balked about the 3 hour wait times even when it stretched to 6 hours for one appointment. I feel that the doctors are top notch in their skill levels and reputations. However, this is not the way to run a business. Whose fault is this? Does the buck stop with the office manger and her staff or are the doctors ultimately responsible for how their office is run? This is the most unprofessional office that I have ever dealt with. If this is the business model that BCS has in place, then they should have no place in healthcare. This is not a caring place with the patient's well being as the first priority. The real irony of this whole fiasco is that October is Breast Care Awareness Month. There are other extremely competent practices specializing in breast care and my life is too short to waste another minute at BCS. read more

Very concerned about a lack of knowledge regarding their own physician referral forms and screening processes. My physician referred me for a preventative screening and the Breast Care Specialists conducted a diagnostic imaging which cost more money. Called multiple times, when I got through, no one seems to be aware of their referral form or the preventative screening as an option. I feel misled because my physician requested one thing, and they decided to do another. read more

This place seems to have gone downhill after Dr Murphy left. She was great. Although the waiting times have always been insane. One time I have spent more than 6 hours there. Coffee or tea costs 50 cents. I have been calling just to schedule an appointment and nobody is answering the phone. I left messages which no one returned either. I would not recommend. Everything was not okay with my mastectomy. I'm battling stage 3c triple negative and my surgeon, how do I put it nicely? Left cancer and did not remove pectoral nodes which had cancer in them prior to chemo and surgery. Did not perform a level three dissection which is recommended for my stage according to the NCCN guidelines and my type of cancer. Had a sentinel node biopsy in armpit even though my sentinel node was my internal mammory nodes. When reviewing my records they all had me at the wrong stage and the surgery was performed as so. When my husband received the news that only two lymph nodes were removed while I was in recovery, the surgeon told my husband the following, she did not have cancer in the lymph nodes prior to chemo so we wouldn't expect there to be cancer in them now, exact words. This was incorrect, I did have cancer in my lymph nodes and this is what prompted me to review my records and how I found out she had me at the wrong stage. Not one phone call to apologize. Now I'm living in fear, going to therapy and battling to accept the big question. Did and will this mistake cost me my life? If the surgeon just would have read my chart and performed the surgery recommended according to all the guidelines I would be in a much better place. I've had to get three second opinions and all that cost me money and time. Cancer is hard enough but then you add in a surgery that was not performed in my best interest and it left things very complicated and added extreme emotional stress and lack of trust moving forward. If you are battling cancer and need a mastectomy I would highly recommend you go somewhere else. I'm finally getting enough courage to speak up and advocate for myself and I hope my review provides clarity for anyone considering going here. It's been 5 months since my surgery and it has been a brutal 5 months. read more

All staff but 1 ( receptionist was great ) need customer service training. Techs yell out name, instead of personally greeting you face to face. Mammogram tech very rough.
