Very cool venue for a concert, so many great places in walking distance for a drink or a meal. Bleacher seats or bring a blanket and sit in the grass. Drinks available at the venue. I attended the Brandi Carlile concert last night. The music was amazing! The location was terrible. I went with a friend who had purchased field tickets. I won't be paying Breese Steven field for any similar events in the future. The tech was set up (necessarily) in the middle of the field, but there was no jumbotron on the back of it, so everyone in the back of the lighting and sound was out of luck for a good view of the stage. Look, I'm 60. I'm not interested in standing for two hours to hear anyone. I learned a lesson. Others can pay $60 to stand and attempt to actually see the artist that they paid to see. It felt very much like a scam. read more

Very dissatisfied worst venue I've ever been to lack of training for the staff, and the management was so unprofessional. The lines were atrocious the bathrooms when you got to them were filthy, and the prices of the concessions were like you were at a five star venue. when in reality you were at a crappy unkept 1940s football field and the comfort level was a zero out of five. read more

I cannot count how many times I have driven by BSF but had never stepped inside. That ended last week when on a whim we decided to see the Madison Radical's Pro Ultimate team play. We found parking on a nearby street on a beautiful late May evening. The tix were only $10 and maybe there were a 1000 people in attendance. So there were plenty of seats available. We noticed a couple of covered areas in the one end and open bleachers along the west side. We opted for some chairs with backs at field level in the endzone (is that what it is called in Ultimate?). It gave a unique perspective on the game. There were plenty of concessions stands and the prices were typical for minor league sports. The crowd was enthusiastic and the game it self was fast paced and pretty interesting. It was easy to pick up the rules and play of the game unlike some sports. It was non-stop action. We would go to another game and to other events at the Field. Glad this site was not bulldozed for another apartment building! read more

I hear they have soccer here, and league Ultimate Frisbee! I think Breese would be a good place to watch both of those. I came here for a concert, Neko Case opening for Ray LaMontagne, and it was great for a concert! Entry was easy breezy with our ticket app, an hour before concert start. The concert promoter gave lots of helpful directions on available free and pay parking in the area, and we had no problem parking the car. We'll bike or walk in next time! We had reserved bleacher seating, but the field is a nice astro turf and was pretty comfortable. Bring a blanket, or just stand closer to the stage! There weren't that many food options during the concert, but there were lots of local beer options! And there were even beer vendors w/limited availability scattered throughout the field. After years of driving by this empty space, I am thrilled that this prime location is revitalized! Breese Stevens Field hosts a little of everything. I've been to a wine and beer festival, world renowned artists concert, Wisconsin kids choir concert, a soccer game, and most recently "Terror on the Turf" for Halloween 2022! All events were well organized, well staffed, with ample room to move, good sight lines, good lighting, clean even turf, and felt safe. I'm taking off one star because ticket procurement from a human is problematic and not accessible to all. Particularly this last time, with staff standing there and no line/no crowd, we were told to go on our phones to buy tickets. Well that involved registering first! And so you have to have a smart phone and be technologically capable to get in. Meanwhile there were four staff members standing there doing zip. It was also maybe a ten minute process to register, purchase, etc. Can we get a hand stamp and pay with cash or card? Or a wristband? Or a paper ticket off of one of those giant rolls? Some people can be excluded with this smart phone only entry. I would like to see the other three options I mentioned implemented for 2023 to allow max inclusivity. Parking: you can be walking a while for parking. Generally need to park in the neighborhood depending on when you're getting here. Its a negative so if alternate means beyond your own car is an option, do so. I do recommend attending Breese Stevens Field events often. Experiencing the variety of events that are held here offers a really nice opportunity to experience Madison. read more

Went to the haunted event. 10/31/2020 (during Covid, for context) "breese screamin field" I was promised that the actors would not be in close proximity to me and would be behind a physical barrier. This was a blatant lie. Actors were less than a foot from us, screaming in our faces. This is such a huge violation. When I asked them to stay six feet away I was blamed for going to the event. read more

This place is great for big events like concerts and graduations (like I went to) very big and spacious and could use a parking lot instead of having to park on the very busy street of downtown. The seats here have their own numbers if assigned to. The grass in the field isn't real (as I thought) but that's fine, soccer games held here should be okay. I'll come back if there's ever any game or concerts. There's also a spots for those to be seated at, if in wheelchairs and there's accessible wheelchair entrance to the seating area. Which is convenient. Not sure if I'm right but there's only two sides of the building that you can exit and enter from. read more

All the food was cashless only! Just fyi when you visit. Luckily the concert merch took cash. I think they could of made room for some regular restrooms instead of porta potty's and they didn't have enough of them for the crowd. read more

The revitalization of this field has been really great for the near east side of Madison. I have been to quite a few different events here in the past couple of years. They have been slowly improving the bathrooms, concession options for events and keeping the stands and field really clean. The professional ultimate frisbee team 'Madison Radicals' play their home games here. The stands fill up pretty quickly for them. It's great to see all the fans supporting their home team. The games are really energetic and lots of scoring occurs. The amazing throws and catches are really cool to see. They sure do have athletic talent! The Madison 56ers men's soccer team plays their games here too. They have a little smaller crowd at their matches, but they have a fun 'supporters section' that loves to wave their flags, pound their drums and get their scarves up! Next March, Madison's brand new professional soccer team will play here. They are talking about another upcoming remodel project for the field. Not sure what they are going to update next, but I'm excited to see that more events are coming to use the field. Sprinkled throughout the spring to fall season, there's a list of other fun events that are hosted here. There's music concerts, food truck events, etc. One thing that can be a little problematic is the parking. The field does not have its own parking lot or ramp. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and most times you can get parking within 3-4 blocks of the field. We like to picnic and tailgate in Reynolds Field Park that is across the street from Breese Stevens Field. There's a lot of space in the park to play frisbee, cornhole or catch with the kids. read more

Growing up in Madison, I would pass by and wonder what this field was all about. My Dad would tell me stories about different games he played there or this and that. But it didn't seem used much in my teens and twenties. Maybe just an odd soccer game. Now there are events happening all the time. It is a great asset to the Near Eastside. I came for a Bodega. I saw Cake there. I was there for a couple other things. And of course, you can still catch a soccer match. There are food venders, beverage venders for most of the events. I now know to keep my eye on Breese Stevens Field for fun things to do in Madison. read more

LOVE historic Breese Stevens Field. I went there recently for a Madison Radicals game, although I've been in the past for concerts. They have been utilizing the space a lot more recently for events, and this is the soon to be home of Madison's Professional Soccer team. One negative is that there are not a lot of bathrooms at the moment. I think the space is also underutilized in terms of seating (and areas for shaded seating). There is no public parking lot, so it's best to uber or get dropped off, although you can usually find parking on the street in the neighborhood. I believe they are going to be doing upgrades to the stadium soon- so I look forward to updating this review! read more

My husband and I attended a concert at Breese Stevens Field and I was pleasantly surprised. We were lucky enough to buy Gold Circle tickets and so we were right by the stage. All of the event staff were friendly and helpful. The facility was clean and appeared to be well managed. Parking turned out to be much easier than I expected. A normal person would visit Breese Stevens for some sort of sporting event, but I have to be a total weirdo and visit for Shakespeare. There's a nice covered area for seats at the head of the field, and we brought folding camp chairs to keep from having to sit on the concrete slabs. We also brought our own picnic, which was nice and definitely atypical for most fields. Parking was easy in the neighborhood behind the field and the setting sun provided some lovely light. Hoping to make it to a Radicals frisbee game this season to see the field in use for something closer to its intended purpose. read more

I have been attending live music concerts for over 40 years, starting back in the 70's in Soldier Field in Chicago. I have been to all kinds of concerts in all kinds of venues, and by far Breese Stevens Field is the absolute WORST concert venue I have ever had the misfortune of attending. We have seen 2 concerts here now--Boston and Ryan Adams--and will never, EVER go back for another concert at this venue! First of all, there are all kinds of restrictions on what you can and cannot bring into the venue with you. No chairs! No umbrellas! No cameras! etc., etc., etc!! ad nauseum... At the Boston concert is was raining that day, and they wouldn't let us bring in umbrellas! WTF? And no chairs??? You are then forced to either sit on the sidelines in the bleachers or stand for 3 hours in the cold, wet grass! Are you friggin' kidding me!? Second, the food and drink vendors suck. The only wine you can purchase is from Fisher King Winery, possibly one of the worst wines ever made. How the hell did they corner the market on wine sales at Breese Stevens? Probably because they can't sell that crap anywhere else.And the only halfway decent food is roped off for VIP members only! WTF! Last night we really wanted to see Emmy Lou Harris. We had originally purchased tickets to see her at the Overture Center, and envisioned a wonderful evening there in comfortable seats, sipping good wine and listening with superb acoustics that the Overture is known for. Instead Frank Productions, in it's infinite greedy wisdom, moved the venue to Breese Stevens Field. WTF?! Long story short, we grew tired of standing in the cold grass, and we left before the concert was over. Never, EVER again will we attend a concert at Breese Stevens Field! It sucks BIG time! Breese Stevens was a great venue for the Darius Rucker concert. Parking was not the best. There were supposed to be signs but did not see any. The biggest disappointment was the food, overpriced, cold, and poor selection. Approximately 10 workers, 2 food lines and it took 30 minutes. Very inefficient. I will definitely be back, but eat before you go. read more
