I was previously employed with the Cherokee Country Club in the Summer of 2020 when I worked as a pool server. I enjoyed the job there that summer, and I even looked into returning to Cherokee again during this Summer of 2021. But I was not able to get hired back this summer, and Cherokee hired new management and things were not the same there this year as they were last year. First, I sent an email to a manager that I knew from last year to inquire about returning this year, but then a new manager who was hired this year emailed me and said she wanted to talk to me more about my inquiry over the phone. When I had a phone conversation with the new manager, the conversation unfortunately did not go so well. At first, from what I learned from that phone conversation, I thought I would be forced to work banquets on a lot of nights and weekends this year, and I didn't have to do that last year. I was only looking for daytime hours as a pool server this year just like I had last year. The new manager also put together a new scheduling system online, and I put in the hours of availability where I explicitly stated that I'd prefer to work daytime hours. At first, the manager asked me if I could start a daytime shift as a pool server on a Friday. At first, I accepted the position for this summer, but then I turned down the position only because I thought I accepted another job for the summer that apparently didn't work out, and I ended up getting fired from my other summer job. So when my other summer job that I thought I had didn't work out, I tried contacting the new manager of the Cherokee Country Club again to reconsider working there this summer, but then the new manager told me that she couldn't hire me anymore, and it turned out that I got fired from the Cherokee Country Club. I feel that the manager's decision to fire me for no good reason was unacceptable. I know I may have been a little flaky with the job on my part only because I thought I had another job, but the management at Cherokee was not being understanding to me in my situation. I think the Cherokee Country Club could have better management. And because of the bad experience I had with Cherokee this year compared to last year, I unfortunately don't feel comfortable going back over there even if I went back as a guest. I don't recommend the Cherokee Country Club especially if you're looking for a fun summer job, or even a place to have banquets or go for a swim. If you don't want to be put in a tough situation with Cherokee like I was in this year, then I'd say it's not worth it. read more

I recently had dinner at the Cherokee Country Club (open to the public, no membership required). I ordered the mushroom ravioli dinner. This came with salad, breadsticks and steamed vegetable medley. The salad was larger than I would expect for a dinner salad. All of the ingredients were very fresh. The breadsticks were great and left me wanting more. The mushroom ravioli was superb. The meal was so plentiful, I brought half of it home for lunch the next day. I should also mention, our server was GREAT, we were a large group and kept her very busy. One other thing, my table looked out over the golf course. The view was great and we were lucky to view 2 cranes walking in the distance. I highly recommend eating here. read more

I played this course this past weekend. It has so much potential but is in desperate need of maintenance. There are so many potholes on the cart paths! It would only take a day to rake the path and grate it but nothing seems to have been done. I played it 2 years ago and noticed the same thing. If you are driving a cart, be prepared to be jostled around the entire day, whether you are on the path or in the fairway. It's a shame, the course has so much potential but it's the little things that they seem to not even care about. read more

I recently joined Cherokee and have been happy with my decision. The restaurant has good food and is not expensive. They have several options for vegetarians and are accommodating for those with food intolerances. The course is quiet and beautiful and a great place to relax. The staff are very nice and helpful. If you are looking to become a member at a friendly, relaxing course, consider joining Cherokee. read more

I have been a member of the club for a couple of years and without a doubt, I can say this club is a joke and sucks. No Maintenance, No proper coaches. No Membership benefits. Feels like entering into an abandoned building. Once you are a member the membership starts with 1-year commitment and auto-renews without any notice. Even when the club is closed they keep charging you(COVID, not using the club for the last 6 months still gets charged). Heard from other members that when you get hurt and are not able to use the club for a month or more and reach out to hold membership and club rejects and they don't even bother to assist. You won't get courts as there is no proper way of booking the courts unless you book courts exactly one-week before and if you can call 100 times exactly at 8 AM and able to get hold of the front office receptionist, the chance is that you may get court. Only one or two coaches whom you can depend on and they are also fully occupied with lessons. Most of the prime court time is allocated to tennis tournaments and lessons so don't expect to get a court any time between 4 and 8. Do not recommend for any budding tennis players as these guys will suck the interest out the kids and make the tennis look like the worst possible game to play. Most of the coaches are retired and trying to make living out from lessons so don't expect to learn amazing tennis here. read more

I have been a golf member of Cherokee for the past 18 years. This course is a jewel located on the Northside of Madison on the Cherokee Marsh. I have played all the club and public courses in the area and consider their greens to be among the best. The variety of course venues will keep your interest, as well as challenge your game. Cherokee offers some of the best golf instruction in the state as well as having a year round practice facility. It is not unusual for one of the Tiziani brothers to give you a golf tip now and then. Bo and Tom are also available. The members here are friendly, knowledgeable, courteous (pace of play always under four hours), and are some of the most competitive players in the city. If you are a serious player, or just play for fun and want to hang out with good people, this the place for you. read more

Are you a fan of "Back to the Future"? If so, this is the place for you! The whole facility seems to be stuck in the mid '80s. The restaurant/bar, golf shop, golf course, locker rooms, etc (everything) is in need of updates...2 decades ago. We played on a Saturday and there was no on-course beverage service. What golf course doesn't have drink carts?!?! We also got lost because there's no on-course signage. What golf course has no signage?!?! Are you a fan of outhouses for course bathrooms? If so, then Cherokee is for you. The clubhouse hallways smell like an outhouse too, no kidding or exaggeration there, I promise. The greens and fairways are in good shape but the rest of the course leaves much desired. The Madison-area city courses are a better value for your money, and they have drink girls! read more
