A set of long stairs usher you up to the tower and that is where we started our journey. We climbed to the top and what a sight it is to see. This tower is high up as it sits on the crest of a hill. Amazing and a bit scary all the same time when you get to the top. Bring your pup cause this place is a perfect little spot to hike thorough with them. Trails are well marked and walking through the forest here is a bit surreal as you are led through windy twists and turns that are littered with rocks and trees and so much nature it is just a pleasure to experience. We drove up from Milwaukee and it takes about 50 minutes to get here. When heading home I suggest taking the scenic route back and driving by Long lake and through the country side of Wisconsin. And now with a lake home only a few minutes away, while I don't need to visit, I still do at times just to take in the memories. It checks off all the boxes-water, beach, walking trails, camping, concessions, and fishing spots. The Kettle Moraine started with the purchase of land surrounding the lake and it does a great job representing. I enjoy seeing the different geological formations and landscapes (marshes, pine, deciduous). A beautiful space.

It continues to be a favorite spot for camping trips multiple times a year, but hot dang you have to book FAR in advance to get a site! I believe they allow you to book up to 11 months in advance, which seems crazy but trust me when I say you need to, especially for weekend or holiday dates. We camp with both an RV and tents, and are always in search of sites with electric as an option. My favorite is around the #89-92 area, but honestly you can't go wrong with most all of the sites. The grounds are extremely well-kept, and it's a delight to be tucked into the forest of trees. Tons of walking paths wind around this park too, including the beautiful dunes. Great to explore in all seasons. Various trails lead straight to Lake Michigan, where you'll find the sprawling beach of white sand. In the warm months, it's great to swim, and in the cooler months the beach is flat enough to take a nice long walk on or simply enjoy the ocean-like views. Other pros: plenty of parking for single-day visitors, a huge playground alongside the beach entrance, firewood and ice on site, an 'amphitheatre' area where events like weddings can be hosted, and it's very dog-friendly. There's nothing not to love at this gorgeous state park!

Kohler-Andre State Park: Originally named just Terry Andre State Park when it opened in the late…read more1920s, the park became Kohler-Andrae State Park in 1966 following a donation from the Kohler Company. The park is in the Town of Wilson, which is just south of Sheboygan. It features a plethora of wildlife, numerous campsites, the Sanderling Nature Center, majestic sand dunes, over two miles of golden beaches along the cool waters of Lake Michigan, The Black River Marsh Boardwalk, and whispering pines. My favorite part was the miles of hiking trails through the sandy dunes. A show titles "Wildlife of Wisconsin" was also neat in the Sanderling Nature Center. The presenter shared some interesting stories and also brought along some live animals, such as baby possums, falcon, and barn owl. It can be a little chillier in the park because of its proximity to Lake Michigan and the wetlands can cause an increase in mosquitos, so plan accordingly. Overall, it's a nice park within short driving distance of Milwaukee.

Since we had never been to that part of Wisconsin, we decided to give it a try. We've been full-time RVers for 14 years and can honestly say this is our favorite spot out of at least two or three hundred other campgrounds including everything from boondocking to resorts. The grounds are immaculate, as are the restrooms and two laundry rooms, which are handicapped friendly. The roads, while unpaved are of a fine shell or gravel and hard packed so these are easy to traverse using a walker. There are miles of popular, well-kept walking/bicycle paths nearby going from Point Rawley to the north, past the park and on to Manitowoc to the south. The owners of the park, Tammie and Paul, love the park and are working tirelessly at making it more beautiful every year. There is a lovely pond, lots shrubs and flowers as well as bat houses, bird houses and feeders (we watched goldfinches as we ate dinner several times), whimsical decorations large and small scattered throughout which are changed with the seasons. A number of sites have shade, and most of those without full grown trees have young trees about 15 feet tall or so and will provide more shade every year. Guidelines for the park are clear and reasonable: guests are asked to respect the space and people which is of course, simple common courtesy. All-in-all, this is is our idea of the perfect combination of a natural and well-kept park and friendly people. We are looking forward to our next, longer visit next year. We brought our two dogs and they are having a blast. The lake is a short walk down the hill and perfect place to take a little swim with the pups! These cabins are being restored over the fall and winter of 2018 and will be ready for overnight rentals starting May 1, 2019. Each open cabin is about 400 square feet consisting of bunk beds, a full size bed, pull-out couch and kitchen table. Each cabin has electricity, however there is no plumbing. Fear not, there is a hand pump well and seasonal restroom centrally located between the 4 cabins as well as showers and flush restrooms just up at the hall for your use. The cabins are right on Friess Lake too which is 121 acre lake with a maximum depth of 48 feet. It's a perfect lake for fishing, swimming, and paddling a kayak, canoe, or paddle board (rentals onsite)! Glacier Hills is located just 2.5 miles from Holy Hill in the beautifully Kettle Moraine! Make sure to checkout all the amazing golf and recreational opportunities as well as all the local amazing restaurants/bars too!

We decided last minute and very impulsively to hit this KOA. Like, booked a cabin less than 12…read morehours before we left. My kids like dirt and the woods so they were thrilled. We got in at 8pm because we couldn't leave Chicago until after my husband logged off with work. We arrived to find the office closed and an envelope with our name on it taped to the door. That would have been super efficient... if they had actually put the key in the envelope. So I called the number to the KOA repeatedly and no one answered. I finally walked to the back of the office and found a bar. Not a lounge but a full fledged bar. The door stated masks were required to enter but not one single person out of the 40 or so people in there had a mask on. No worries, I'm fully vaccinated, I pushed on. I asked the bartender if she could help me and she directed me to a woman who was super nice and brought me into the office where she located the key. Score! Then we got into the cabin and we didn't have any water. My husband and I poked around in the dark to see if we could find a water source but since we know nothing about it, gave up. More unanswered calls to the KOA. Finally an hour later my husband walked back to the bar and found the same nice woman who came over and fixed the problem. She was super nice but seriously, at this point it was like 10:30pm and we were all just tired of the check in situation being such a long and drawn out pain. The cabin is good. We got a deluxe cabin "VIP" situation. It's fully equipped with plates, silverware, pots, pans, etc which is good because this cabin doesn't have a grill like other KOAs we have stayed at. The sofa bed is horrifyingly uncomfortable so don't plan on needing that. Bring an air mattress, there's space for a full size blow up in the sleeping loft. The biggest issue is the heating/cooling. If you turn the heat on, the back bedroom turns into a literal sauna while the rest of the cabin is ice cold. Also, we couldn't leave the windows open at night because everyone around us was so loud. There was a fundraiser event Friday night and golf carts with drunk people were whizzing around until well after midnight. From what I can tell, most people are seasonal here... and they like to party. Which is cool, my husband started looking into a camper to park here seasonally. Lol Seems like a fun vibe. But it's definitely not for people with little kids who care about quiet hours nor for those that are early to bed. I felt for the tent campers after that fundraiser let out on Friday night. There's no way they slept through that. They had tons of kids activities going on every time we drove by the front area. Which would have been amazing and a huge draw if it wasn't for the fact that not a single one of the dozens of kids were masked. My older kids did the mini golf and liked it. The shop has a lot of good basics in case you forgot something: bread, condiments, milk, eggs, etc. Everyone that worked in the shop was super nice and always masked. They kindly served the idiots that strolled in without masks, ignoring the sign on the door that says to wear one. The hiking trails in the KOA were seriously perfect for my kids. We took them over to Kettle Moraine too but this was great for them to just get out and move. There's three pools and I think two playgrounds. This place is MASSIVE, so bring the kids' bikes and scooters. Overall, we had fun. The employees are super nice and there's a lot to do here. Once my kids are vaccinated, we'll come back and partake in all the offerings.

Stayed here in a cabin in Summer of 2020 when we thought the pandemic was over Tuesday-Thursday and…read morethe Buckhorn Saloon and the Chuck Wagon weren't open and it was super hot and humid so stayed in the cabin till sunset and had a fire and listened to music. We paid $75 a night and was nice to get away for that price even though many of the amenities weren't open. Fast Forward to 2022 reserved a cabin 6 months in advance and payed $648 for 3 nights and all the amenities were up and sorta running. I'll break my full review down by category below. Trading Post: Typical prices for a campground store had basic items, very basic. Chuck Wagon Grill: The youngest girl on their staff was running this kitchen all by herself and many items on menu were out of stock, they could have gave the only restaurant on site a bit more attention in my opinion. Game Room: Half of the games there were not working including all 3 shooting games which are money makers in every arcade, the pinball machine and racing game were the only decent games. Buckhorn Saloon: I think they keep the electricity off to this place till they open it up to save money, the beers in the refrigerator were pretty much room temp and the mix drinks served on ice, but be prepared to know how to tell them how to make your drink if it's not their weekly special. The atmosphere isn't that great if you're not a seasonal resident here, very cliquey! Cabin: decent Cabin has air and microwave and could have a slightly larger tv and do a better job presentation wise, the wires were hanging everywhere. The toilet paper provided is very chintzy 1-Ply so bring your own. Overall all it has basic stuff if you just want to hang around the camp site, they have a pool that was packed and guests seem to be having fun, for a $100 a night I'd recommend this place for $200 absolutely not.
