It's something I've wanted to do for a while but had been putting off bc it's intimidating. Melissa Moser was recommended to me. Email correspondence was prompt initially and my first appointment went very well. I liked that they have a package plan for a trust that includes multiple things and was ultimately provided to me in a full binder package with everything tabbed (with definitions and instructions) set up so it's easy should someone have to use it in the event of my untimely death or incapacitation. After our one-hour consult, I was given some paperwork to fill out for them as far as assets, accounts, possessions, etc. and signed a contract fairly quickly and paid my half deposit (remainder due upon delivery of documents/binder). Melissa and I had about a 2-3 hour meeting one afternoon where we really sat down and went through all my assets, my plans for the future for my daughter, and how to structure my trust in such a way that it will still provide guidance and influence for my daughter where I can still have a way to instill some values in her if I were to no longer be here to parent her. We included education, health, travel, and additional benefits for her until she's around 40. Incentivizing things like foreign travel abroad, higher education, marrying later, health and wellness... etc. Melissa was a great partner in working through those things and providing some guidance and examples as well as steering the conversation and leading me to the goals I wanted. Yesterday I arrived and the team was well-prepared and had all my documents ready to go - I signed in front of witnesses/notaries and they quickly made scans/copies and had my binder ready to go. I feel much better now that I have everything lined up for my very young daughter so she will be well provided for and I will still be able to look out for her if the worst and unexpected happened. Additionally, I now have a will, a durable power of attorney, and advanced medical directives outlining my wishes. This sort of thing is unpleasant, but something you need to think about as you get older. My grandmother died with no will with 5 adult children from two marriages and it was a nightmare. I don't want to leave that for my family. Working with this firm was exceptionally easy and the comprehensive binder they provided will walk my loved ones through everything they need to know if I were no longer here and they won't have to guess what my wishes are, they're clearly laid out. Ms. Jenkins was assigned as my children's 3rd GAL in a 4 plus year contested divorce and custody…read morecase. I was confident that she would see what the other 2 GALs had seen in my soon-to-be ex-husband; an abusive (on probation currently for abusing our 8 year old son and I currently have a 2 year Protective Order in place for myself (no contact) and my 3 children (no hostile contact)), manipulative, lying man. Ms. Jenkins was presented with the evidence of abuse on my 8 year old son, evidence of abuse against me during our marriage and was present during the Protective Order hearing in which the Judge presiding over the case said to my ex-husband that she didn't like his demeanour nor the way he carried himself and the fact that he lied, under oath, in a court of law. Still, some how, Ms. Jenkins recommendation was that a child abuser have sole physical custody and that we share joint legal custody. I complied with all of her requests, background checks, drug tests, alcohol tests and passed with flying colors. I had requested that the same be requested of my ex and his immediate family who have a history of alcohol and drug abuse and was told that it WAS requested but never received. When I asked Ms. Jenkins how she could make a fair decision if she didn't have all of the information she needed, I was ignored and Ms. Jenkins started to contact my attorney and request that her fees be added into my final divorce decree. Gotta get that money because obviously that's what's important here, not protecting children. As a disclosure, I do not do drugs, drink and have NEVER abused my children. I have been a stay at home mother for 10 plus years, on top of going to school and working in the medical field off and on during my 13 year marriage. No felonies, no jail time. My only fault is staying in an abusive relationship and allowing my children and myself to be abused for too long.
