I think this is my first yelp review, but my experience with Dr. Michael was truly terrible and frightening . I was looking for a primary doc on the west side and found Dr. Michael on zocdoc. I had been having stomach discomfort for months as well as some autoimmune issues. I am a nurse so I was pretty much under the impression I needed some lab work done and that was it. When I arrived to my appointment the nurse checked me in and had me pee in a cup. She said I had a UTI, although I had no symptoms of a UTI, and was going to give me an antibiotic shot IM (weird, why wouldn't I just get oral antibiotics) she said it's usually $100 but since I'm "in the industry" she would only charge me $20. Also weird. That ceftriaxone shot ended up giving me a terrible yeast infection and diarrhea for a week. When I went to go speak with the doctor in his office he was asking inappropriate questions about my sexual activity and preferences, and was extremely judgmental about me being sexually active AT ALL. He then basically convinced me that I could have HIV and that's why my immune system is suppressed. He kept apologizing about the "terrible news" he was giving me. I was terrified. Of course I had questions but he seemed very intelligent and concerned. He wrote me an order for an extensive bloodwork panel. I left crying and called a friend who is an internal medicine doctor who said the labs he ordered for me to get are labs that are needed when someone has already been diagnosed with HIV and that they were extremely unnecessary. He also wanted to do an ultrasound and EKG which I declined because there was no reason for these tests. When I went to Labcorp in the same building to collect my labs the receptionist was complaining about Dr. Michael, so I told her what had just happened. There was another patient in the waiting room that went through the EXACT same experience as me and was written for the same lab work, basically convinced by the doctor that they also had HIV. That patient said that Dr. Michael had also ordered a lot of unnecessary tests (EKGs, X-rays) that came back clear. I had to wait TWO WEEKS for my results, and everytime I would call the front desk they kept saying it should be "any day now." Obviously I was so nervous waiting for so long. My bloodwork came back perfect. I asked the receptionist to email me my results but apparently their office "doesn't have email." Also my insurance didn't cover all of the unnecessary testing so I ended up paying over $500 out of pocket for everything he ordered. I ended up going to another doctor who figured out exactly what was going on with me and was quickly treated. I am a nurse and do not get white coat syndrome easily, but Dr. Michael was extremely convincing and made me absolutely terrified for my own health, without anything to support his opinion. I leave 4 star because despite the fact that Dr Brent Michael I believe is trying his best to provide care for his patients during an office visit, stays long hours, looks into many details. However I find him puzzling because the same time there is another side to him. Maybe it is a long after Covid effect (I am not a doctor to define a phycological or so reason like ADD/ADHD or so) but forgets many things, doesn't follow up what was planned and I don't think he feels how another human being feels about it. It can be really upsetting if to take it personally. I understand that it is a business and it is Los Angeles (people in LA are well known being flaky) but I would expect a bit more efficiency from a human being. Do not go. Reading some of the reviews, I felt compelled to come forward myself. It is my perspective that this office appears to be engaging in insurance fraud and severe incompetence. I was seeking a PCP on the west side as I had just recently moved. I needed some basic maintenance prescriptions refilled. During my first appointment, after waiting egregiously long, I only saw the RN in the exam room. She took my vitals, etc for a regular physical and I also peed in a cup. I was under the belief that this was just for some hormone testing or something. Then I got the famous EKG (that apparently everyone gets even though I'm 33 with no known issues). Then I sit with the doctor in his office. Surprise surprise, the doctor sees something abnormal and calls for his specialist to run an ultrasound, which requires a second appointment to review the results. [This is after he asks me if I'm an actress in some weird creepy play?]. So, I'm freaking out and scared, for the days between my appointment. He explained to me it could be AFib, or some other cardiovascular issues. After a second appointment, Turns out to be a nothing after wasting another few hours of my life at this office. I was so anxious between appointments thinking something was wrong with my heart that I cried to my partner (I am an endurance athlete...). The office doesn't do e-Rx they only do handwritten or call in Rx. They manage to mess up my prescription dose (even though I brought my old bottles with me to the appointment). It still hasn't been corrected after 6 months and I'm continuing to only take half the dose that I was taking. THEN, I get my insurance claims after all this. Turns out in addition to all the unnecessary testing and appointments, they also drug test me ? I called back furiously and said I did not consent to be drug tested nor was this part of a standard annual physical. So, they are fraudulently billing insurance and scheduling excess and unnecessary tests for patients. Plus- you'll have to pay hundreds out of pocket for those tests too. DO NOT GO TO THE THIS DOCTOR/OFFICE! -They cancelled my bloodwork appt after I had been fasting and already en route to the office. -When rescheduled, I waited TWO hours in the office being finally seeing the Doctor (parking meter expired) -A female worker in the office asked me if they accepted my insurance and threatened if they didn't, it would be "$2,000 out of pocket"! I found them because my insurance said they did, found plenty of available appts on ZocDoc (which I learned the hard way why!) and she stressed me out until I could once again contact my insurance and prove they were in network while waiting for the Doctor. -The male medical tech in the office took my blood pressure by insisting I rest my arm on an UNSANITARY TRASHCAN! -While in the office, they CONSISTENTLY confused patients, tests ordered, even handed me back someone else's ID and insurance card until I corrected them. -I could hear through the thin walls the non-medical conversation the Doctor was having with a patient while I waited nearly an hour in the exam room nextdoor. -When I finally got in the Doctor's office, he literally left me in there alone for over 10 minutes where I noticed the disarray of his office, salt packets and pens on the floor, the Doctor's pants had visible stains on them, he appeared to be wearing slippers... -When it was my turn in the office, instead of quickly expediting my appt to get bloodwork done, he chatted me up for over 20 mins., attempted to use an app on his phone instead of an EKG while I awkwardly stuff and held my shirt up for over 10 mins -Front desk told me to go to the 8th Floor for bloodwork but there was no apparent lab up there for such (doors were labeled for Plastic Surgeons and such( -Went back downstairs and male tech was on the phone, asked me to wait because he was on the phone, while I could clearly hear he was discussing ME and my prescription, etc. I interrupted and asked WHERE on the 8th Floor. and the tech couldn't say/remember. Another patient in the waiting actually was the one to tell me there is in fact a lab there, poorly labeled, as Pacific-something... -After finding "Pacific Medical Services" on the 8th Floor, the incompetent blond woman behind the desk there insisted I pay her $30 cash (no credit card!) for a test the doctor ordered. In that moment, the male tech from the Doctor's office came in and said there was a "huge problem" and I needed to come back downstairs after. I asked both of them in the room who was correct; the Doctor said I wouldn't have to pay for the test because I had insurance, the woman insisted I pay $30 cash... the male tech had no response. I walked out of that scam. -I went into Labcorp located in the SAME building as Dr. Michael and they said they couldn't serve any of his patients because he had "AN OUTSTANDING BALANCE". This is another lab in the same building! Do not waste a second of your time with these offices, Dr. Michael or Pacific Medical Services! read more

My insurance changed so I needed a new provider to fill an SSRI prescription. I booked online and waited nearly two hours before being brought back to a room where another patient was able to walk right in, to the point where I thought he was the doctor. I was then moved to the doctors office and waited an additional 30mins before even meeting Dr. Michael. There was no consideration for which medication I would need, no explanation of side effects or things to avoid, I was not weighed and the dosage was a best guess. I've attempted a follow up over the phone twice, both times never receiving a call back despite his office scheduling and confirming the appointments within 24hrs. I just want a full 90 refill to avoid dealing with his office again. To top it off, they are absolutely billing my insurance incorrectly. Both double billing for the appointment and either falsely advertising their insurance providers, or coding incorrectly with Cigna. Only benefit is them being too disorganized to have any online billing system, or to charge your copay in office. read more

Whatever you do, do NOT go to this hack job. I scheduled an appointment for a medical issue that was concerning me. Showed up and immediately regretted my decision. There was patient paperwork everywhere on the counters and on the ground in the back. No type of organization or any measures to ensure patient confidentiality. I stayed unfortunately because I needed to get some answers on my issue. When I was finally seen by Dr. Michael, he proceeded to ask inappropriate questions about if I was a model or what my ethnicity was. He eventually scheduled me for an ultrasound that would take place the next day which i confirmed with him multiple times. Well, lo and behold, when i showed up the next day, he tells me that i must have misheard him because they don't do ultrasounds on that specific day. What?! Annoyed, I rescheduled the scan with the technician and the doctor for the following day. Well guess what? When I showed up the next day, the door was locked and the doctor was "sick". It wasn't until I called from outside the door twice that the ultrasound tech opened the door while he was eating the most offensive deli sandwich. We did the scan without the doctor present but I had to ask the tech multiple times to take images of a specific part of my body despite his insistence that ultrasound scans can't detect what I was concerned about (they absolutely DO mind you). Anyways, the office LOSES the results of my scan and -- to this day -- doesn't know where my patient file is (which is a HIPAA violation). All this to say, go literally anywhere else unless you enjoy unnecessary stress and anxiety and the smell of deli meat while you're being probed. read more

I am a year out of my last appointment and my insurance is still not able to process because the office won't respond to their request for more information. Unbelievable. I walked in and the woman behind the desk was screaming at another employee. She was an older lady that said she came back. She said she couldn't find my file and then chastised me for not bringing in "prescription bottles "then proceeded to violate HIPAA by talking about and asking me about my medical condition in front of other patients in the waiting room--this office is terrible. Then she said has anybody talk to you about your bladder? And nobody has and it's concerning and then that she told me that Dr is not even there. Absolutely. I would not recommend this doctor. My experience was extremely frustrating. I had blood work done and was told results would be ready in 3-5 days and that the office would call to schedule a follow-up. After a week of no response, I followed up multiple times and was told they would call me back. It ultimately took three weeks just to schedule an appointment. When my appointment was finally scheduled, I was informed upon arrival that the doctor was sick and would not be seeing patients that day. I was told the doctor would call me to review my results, but I still have not heard anything yet. Do not go here. read more

I went in for 3pm appointment ear cleaning and I didn't get seen until 5:45pm. They forced me to do an EKG and then didn't explain any of the results well and I left confused. Plus, by the time he checked my ear, it was 6pm so the nurse already left and he told me I'd have to come back another day. Over 3 hours and NOTHING happened. Grotesque treatment & process made this the worst experience of service I've ever had. I have a stomach virus (I think, they never told me) and It's been effecting me for 2 weeks now, so I asked to come in. I waited 2.5 half hours and was never seen. All they did was have a nurse check my blood pressure, tell me it was high, and then sat me in a room. After that wait I decided I would just leave. The front desk lady just said sorry and gave me a hug and said she would call the pharmacy the next morning and have them give me something. So, I Called the next day to see if it was done (after being hung up on 3 times) and was told by same lady that they can't help me and I should go see urgent care and should have done that yesterday and that it's out of their hands... she said she had to go because they have 20 other patients for today and hung up. I'm perplexed to be honest, will never be returning to this office again. No wonder the wait and service is horrible, they choose quantity over quality of service, something they can't even deliver without promising meds over a call for a patient they hadn't even examined. read more

I had the 1st appointment of the day at 9:15, I showed up at 9:10... because I am conscientious and respectful of people's time. I left at 10:30 because he never showed up. His assistant is very nice, she may have been embarrassed by his lack of professionalism and curtesy. She mentioned he sometimes does house calls in the morning, he's also a concierge doctor... so he puts his rich patients over the ones waiting in his office. AND!!!! I was excited to finally have found a primary care doctor on the west side and honestly this turned into literalllllly my worst nightmare. They did an EKG that came back abnormal & said "septal infarct" followed by an ultrasound. Refused to call me with my lab results (Anita the nurse i guess? is an absolute psycho who hangs up on patients and refuses to give them their results). I ended up getting results from Christian but with ZERO INTERPRETATION from the doctor, so I literally sat there googling for hours to find out whether or not I had a freaking heart attack. I just saw a real cardiologist yesterday who ran everything and told me I'm perfectly healthy, but I've been spiraling for a WEEK over the fact that I may have had a heart attack as a 28 year old. Save yourself a panic attack and don't go here...I really wanted to like this doctor because he seemed sweet, but their entire process is TERRRRRRIBLE and they will refuse you your results. BUT, I was seen RIGHT away and did not have to wait long at all. Also Christian the front desk lady does seem really sweet, she honestly reminded my of my grandma and I wanted to give her a hug. read more

My experience was like many of the other patients. The staff is not very professional. I waited over an 1 hour 45 minutes and only had blood pressure read. I was just in for a follow up from my physical. I asked the nurse how much longer and nurse said he sill had one more patient to see!! Absolutely no respect for my time! She said you can just reschedule but I told them to send my bloodwork to me and I'm looking for a new Dr! Also they said as part of the physical they do an echocardiogram. That has never been part of my physical before and was shocked that this was part of the process? This was the VERY worst experience I've ever had in a doctors office. The first appointment I attempted to make with him took them two weeks to get me in appointment. Then, at the rescheduled appointment I waiting in the waiting room for ONE AND A HALF hours! with a VERY rude receptionist. It doesn't stop there. They were suppose to send in three perscription for blood work, and a few other and call me with the referral, which, you guessed it they NEVER did. I tired a few more times to get see, and check up without any success. I finally gave up. I have PPO insurance so I changed doctors. When my wife turned up for the appointment, she was very abruptly told that she was not on the schedule. No apology. Nothing in the way of courtesy. My experience here has been so horrific I felt compelled to warn people. My first visit here I waited over an hour in the waiting room (way before Covid). I overheard the nurse and front desk discussing a patients mental health and making threats towards him saying things like "he's lucky I don't..". I also overheard the nurse saying "this woman in the waiting room can probably hear us". I saw the doctor for the first time and as he was rushing through my blood work results, he calls the nurse in and all of a sudden I see him running down the hallway with a briefcase. The nurse comes in to tell me I can go and I inform her that I did not get a chance to speak to him about any of my concerns and he just left in the middle of my visit. Her response was "ugh I'm sorry he always does this". I was shocked. The woman that answers the phone is unbelievably rude and impatient. She will interrupt you and tell you to call back before you can get a word in. I have been calling for three weeks to get referrals, spoken to several people who all tell me "Anita does referrals". Anita has still not confirmed my referrals and it's going on a month now. I called back today to be met with the very unpleasant receptionist who said word for word "I don't know anything, call Anita back after 2." The front desk ladies are terrible at their job. I got a physical done during February time frame and they still will not send me results after months of pestering. I get the same response every time: "we can't possibly do that today, we are too busy and I'm the only one here". They may forget that I'm a patient too. Brent is a nice guy sometimes was a little hard to follow, but the real problem is the ladies up front. They make it seem like you are the last person on their mind. I'm a young, healthy male with no past major medical issues. I visited this doctor for a routine check-up and was told I had an abnormal EKG during my first visit, which I thought was odd. I've never had any heart issues in the past. Doctor said I could have a serious heart issue and would need to come back for an echocardiogram. He also said I would have to come in a separate, third time to review lab results. I completed all three visits and ended up finding nothing wrong. My insurance ended up getting an exorbitant bill for what was unnecessary visits and tests. Now I may end up having to pay several hundred dollars out of pocket. Please avoid this office at all costs, his front office staff is absolutely horrible. Christina or Christine should not be working in any patient/customer service related field. We were told we could make a payment on our bill and she stated she was unaware of that arrangement. I constantly asked to speak to someone else as she was arrogant and rude and she hung up on me. I proceeded to call back and asked for her name and all of a sudden she had recollection of the payment plan (THAT SHE APPROVED). She kept threatening to send us to collections and stating we were harassing her. We were literally trying to make a payment. She proceeded to belittle us and when we told her the reason we needed the payment plan was because we were struggling financially due to the pandemic, she proceeded to mock us. When we asked to speak to the doctor she told us he would not want to speak to us and if he did he would "put us in our place". How is this acceptable? read more

After a first visit to the office for a physical examination, I was informed that my heart may have serious blood flow issues. I have always been healthy and this came as a surprise. Dr. Michael discussed follow up testing, and he guaranteed that all tests would be fully reimbursed as 'preventive care' under my insurance. Later on, I came to realize that this alleged 'heart issue' was a way to bill me for a series of unnecessary medical exams. In total, I came in for 3 visits, took 15+ medical tests and was billed over $750. I also showed the full list of tests to a family member who has been a surgeon for decades; he had never seen such a long list of tests for a physical examination on a healthy patient. Included in Dr. Michael's bill was $300 for just showing up at the office, a fee which is not disclosed anywhere. Additionally, Dr. Michael lied to me about my tests being considered preventive care. After inquiring about the excessive fees over the phone, Dr. Michael's administrative assistant, Christian, told me that I "do not understand how medical billing works". Christian refused to explain why each test was so expensive, nor why I even needed them in the first place (all of my test results came back showing no issues - no surprises there). Eventually Christian stopped returning my calls and I had to take time off of work to visit her in person. All in all, it took 3 months of back and forth over this bill and I grew exhausted. I agreed to pay $250 even though I shouldn't have had to pay more than my $20 co-pay for a physical examination. read more

Terrible experience!!!! Rude staff that is unwilling to assist with referrals to other doctors. Staff refuses to call you back and the receptionist will hang up on you. They were happy to take my copay but they didn't even allow me to see the doctor, instead a nurse told me she would call with a referral that afternoon. Two weeks later and every time I call to ask about the referral the receptionist tells me I'm not in their system and hangs up on me. Ive been going to him for almost 4 years..... But, this Dr. Michael, ALL he is interested in is making money from you to increase his art collection (or whatever) Its so obvious. My wife always kinda suspected. She started wondering about all the unnecessary test, but I went on, trusting this Dr.. He was nice enough as a personality. Along the way, thought I started to notice how Disgusting, unsanitary and unclean his office was. The walls full of drips of who knows whos bodily fluids, the mirrors.....never cleaned. Forget the sinks...GROSS. The tops of containers the keep medicals in (like cotton and others) were just full of oily finger prints. There is DUST everywhere, and dust thats like set dust, been there forever, never cleaned. Now, I mentioned this and spoke with BOTH the doctor and his assistant "Anita" over and over again. I explained to them that every operation has a "standard" of care and cleanliness...and that a Dr.'s office MUST have the HIGHEST standard of cleanliness, way higher for example than even a Hotel (As a Restaurant and Hotel consultant, and Chef I inspect and consult with both on standards of care, standards of cleanliness etc.) They nodded their heads and that was it 3 or 4 visits later, STILL GROSS. All the machines are full of dirty drips, and gunky junky funky stuff. Its realy quite a sight. For example, check the "bone density machine", and any equipment or table around it. This is where this Doctor likes to work, in filth. Great. You'll notice right when you walk in that the furniture is nicked and the materials wearing on the corners, the coffee tables never been cleaned. The place maybe used to look shabby-chic, now it just looks shabby. This is a sign that nobody cares or is noticing the details of an operation. Imagine what is going on behind the scenes when the obvious stuff goes on under the patience nose. NOBODY disinfects this office. I know this, because all they have is an office crew that cleans, I asked (those cleaners are also directed by the wonderful crew at the office, so you can imagine the cleaning crews efficacy. The disinfecting is supposed to be up to the staff. The person they have working on that cares not or she is too stressed and overworked to bother. This is a pretend Dr. He pretends to care and has a good "schpiel", but its just that. Nothing to speak of behind it. I believe this Doctor has a good heart. I believe he will notice that you cannot LIVE inside of a dollar bill. That what is truly important is people, love, care, truth, and most importantly empathy. Mind you, he seems to be a knowledgeable doctor, Uber educated, and I think if he could just see what others see from afar, he would change. I have not even gone into the reason why I left after 4 years, suffice it to say it has to do with churning medical tests to simply get more money from patience. I caught him. read more

BY FAR, The worst doctors office anyone can experience. All of these reviews are 100% accurate, and I am disappointed in myself for not reading these prior. I waited 5 hours before I was seen by the doctor! Karen the receptionist, is extremely rude, unprofessional, she has ZERO sympathy for anyone, and very disrespectful. I am shocked how this office is still in business. Anita, "The nurse", has absolutely no idea what she's doing. She will literally ignore your phone calls, make you wait weeks for authorizations, and simply does not care about anyone. Dr. Michael, is the same- he's only after your money. He always tries to rush you out of his office, and he loves to make random recommendations that have no relation to the issue you are having. I have never wrote a review for anyone, my experience was SO BAD that I have to warn people. It is obvious that this practice favors PPO patients over HMO patients. Today, I came to visit Dr. B Michael and this visit was a total facelift from the last. Staff was super professional, helpful and kind. Waiting room time short and almost no patients in waiting and they took me in last minute. Today, was my first time meeting Dr. Michael and I was very impressed with how thorough he is! He took his time to go over everything and to explain to me in detail my charts. Again, today I was very impressed with the service here and I will come again. I recommend Dr. Brent Michael's!!! I am still fighting a bill for an annual physical two years ago $248.57 when I had insurance, they want to send me to collections. Given multiple exams that are not routine, insurance and billing office refuses to take responsibility. I am going to report him for malpractice. Nelson from their billing office told me that he would get multiple calls about people questioning their bill, it turns out they were improperly coding all of their invoices and are apparently not giving their patients all these tests but recent reviews say otherwise. I've been with this " doctor " for over a year, I've had a few appointments and yet he's never treated me. Always sending me out for test and nothing else. His staff is rude.I MEAN RUDE.... As much as I didn't want to come into a doctor during a pandemic I had no choice but to come see him. My fault because I didn't change doctors yet procrastinating. I called for an appointment and the nurse Angie (?) was able to get me in but a few hours later I got a call from Karen that said not to come in and that we can make it a phone appointment... perfect I said!!!! Well I called the next day to confirm before the appointment and Karen says " no you have to come in he can't do a phone appointment , I never said that"... (lie, she called me to tell me!!!! ). I asked her why she told me that and i told her I was on my way and asked for the address .... she said "if you're going to be unruly I'm going to hang up" wth... I asked for the address again not yelling or anything and she said "if you're going to be unruly I'm going to call security". She's Rude and she lied. So lets top it off with the fact they are not true to the appointment time... even in he pandemic!!!! smh I will find another doctor ASAP So unprofessional!!! Worse part is the nurse didn't wear a mask until I asked her to put it on. Doc had to be asked as well. After going to the doctor for 13 years I appeared today for my annual physical. I was not allowed to be seen however until I paid a small balance of roughly $100. I asked if I could take care of that after confirming with my insurance what the charge was for however that request was denied. I did pay the $100 and asked for a copy of my file. That request was denied. I asked if I could wait to speak with Dr. Michaels to get a copy of the file and that request was denied. I was then asked to leave the office or they would call security to escort me out. I walked in as a patient And walked out feeling like a criminal. Do not go to this doctor. I am filing a complaint with the medical board today. read more

RUN! I don't write many reviews, but RUN away from this doctor. I showed up to my appointment with him, twice, only to be turned away by embarrassed nurses both times because the doctor decided to not show up that day (after sitting in his waiting room nearly an hour). Not only that, but the office ordered a bunch of unrelated and ridiculous tests - which you will see in many other reviews here. My new primary doctor literally couldn't believe what they put me through all for a simple cold. read more
